Tres horas en el teléfono en diferentes extensiones y nadie contesta. El servicio de agendar citas es desastroso y presenta error con cualquier proveedor de internet al igual que si se hace por el celular. Las citas son para tramites limitados y no hay opción de elegir una cita para tramites específicos como ciudadanía. No estoy en contra de un sistema de agendamiento por cita similar al del Departamento de Motores y Vehículos de New York el cual permite citas el mismo día con opciones completas y donde se puedan HACER CON VARIOS DIAS DE ANTERIORIDAD y permite hacer citas y editar citas durante todas las horas laborales. Este sistema de agendamiento nos regresó 50 años atrás con la supuesta implementación de tecnología que a la final no se puede aplicar con la agilidad para la que está diseñada. Al fin empleados públicos que redujeron la atención ágil y directa al publico a su manera mas precaria. Service once you have an appointment is seamless.It took me two days in the morning to schedule so wasn't as bad as others. I do agree that the process to get an appointment is challenging. I had to strategize with various browsers open on my commuter and my mobile as well and copy and paste quickly. Computer works much faster and I selected later times as I figured morning appointments may go quickly. 1 star for scheduling as we should not go through this and I can't imagine folks who aren't as quick on a computer or disabled. I give a 5 for the service there. Everyone was super helpful with me and quick, couldn't be any smoother to renew my passport once the appointment was scheduled. read more

Experiencia extremadamente frustrante y decepcionante Llevo más de un mes intentando agendar una cita en el Consulado de Colombia en Newark, Nueva Jersey, sin éxito. El calendario en línea siempre muestra que no hay fechas disponibles, y cuando intento revisar el mes siguiente, el sistema no lo permite. He llamado en múltiples ocasiones, pero solo contesta una máquina automática que me cuelga cuando intento comunicarme con alguna extensión o solicitar ayuda. The appointment system is horrible. We've been trying to book an appointment to renew my daughter's passport for over three months, and every time we try to schedule it, it says there's no availability. It seems like a very strange situation and strongly suggests dishonesty on the part of the consulate. It's sad that even while living abroad, you still can't process any documents because of the staff's ineptitude and a booking system that's completely useless. I'm an American Citizen, born in Colombia. I've live in US my whole life, since 9 months old. I've gone to visit Colombia 2 or 3 times since. My last trip in 2023 was fun and I thought the country and the people were awesome. So I decided to try and apply for my Colombian passport as my family in Colombia were encouraging me to do. I was excited! UNTIL...I had to deal with the Colombian Consulate in the US, the one in New York in particular! Never any appts available! Never was able to get help of any kind on the phone (just a recording). For days and weeks I tried to a make appt. NEVER had any luck! *SO I GAVE UP! ...At This Point, I've NO more desire to get a Colombian passport! I'll just visit Colombia as an American Citizen! Es muy triste ir al consulado de su país y que una conciudadana lo trate como si le tuviera que besar los pies, el sistema para agendar citas es terrible dice que se pueden hacer hacer hasta 4 citas y aún haciendo la primera no la deja completar porque cierran la disponibilidad aún sin terminar de responder las preguntas, solo logré agendas una cita después de varios intentos, le pide con palabras textuales "me puede hacer el favor de atender a mi otro hijo" y me contestó con 20 piedras en la mano y NO lo hizo aunque llegamos 45 minutos antes de la cita. The guy at the door was condescending and rude and belittled me for not having an appointment (although there was a line of people without appointments because their online system can't handle requests and won't load correctly). The website says appointments are necessary for some consular services not all. Then he mockingly explained what was needed to submit a death certificate to another country even when I told him I was asking because I didn't know and hadn't done it before and didn't see the info on the website. I expressed my displeasure with being treated rudely and he was unapologetic. I understood I took a chance on going without an appointment. I was prepared to go back another day if people without appointments weren't being seen or even if I was missing paperwork. That part makes total sense to me. A llamado mi atención que hoy en horas de la mañana cuando he tenido que venir a realizar un trámite en el consulado siendo aproximadamente la persona número 30 en la fila, recibí un número cerca del 170, las personas alrededor mío recibieron números pares también y por esta razón pensamos que no repartían turnos impares. Vaya sorpresa están atendiendo números pares e impares, siendo las 9:14am y van en el turno 111, en más de una hora el consulado ha llamado 11 personas, los cual es irónico. Señores, nosotros no tenemos el día completo para perder, hace unos meses se podía sacar una cita y era algo seguro, ahora hay que sacar un día entero para realizar un trámite de 10 minutos? I don't really have anything to compare it to since this is the only embassy I have ever been to. I have to say its very easy to get to. I been here a few times and the people that work here are super friendly and helpful. I feel a lot of Colombians including myself we lose that when we come to the states but the employees here act like they were in Colombia. Before you come here make sure to go on their site and see what paperwork you need for whatever it is that you coming here for because if you don't have everything you need they will send you back no exceptions. When you come in there is a really sweet older gentleman that welcomes you and makes sure you have all the paperwork before he gives you a number. Then you go to the back and wait for your number to be called then head upstairs in this tiny elevator. I have never waited more than 10 minutes. FYI The only form of payment they take is money orders. read more

Also I agreed with others reviewers: nobody seems have a clue about customer service and being people service, literally they won't give two (F word) about you no matter if you're born in Colombia or whoever you are. I came from upstate NY to renew my passport only to find out they still use the rudimentary payment way of money orders... banks don't even sell those anymore. Long story short, I wasted my trip because how nice, they're only open until 1:45 pm. Infuriated and disgusted that transactions with any Colombian entity have to be so difficult. I honestly didn't know what to expect. I've heard awful stuff such as how disorganized it was and how long the wait was! But I have to say it was the complete opposite. I needed to re new my passport. And I had all my paperwork ready. At the entrance there is this very nice older gentleman who greets you and makes sure you have everything you need for your case. Before that there was an officer who so nice and so helpful. Bilingual too! Once, the older gentleman sees all your paperwork, he gives you a number. You go in and wait in a very nice waiting room. With a screen and projector tv showing Colombian news. On the side there is a tv monitor that is used for turns. A robotic woman's voice calls you and tells you where to go. And then keeps it display on the screen. Once you go upstairs there are some cubicles where there are some people waiting for you. All supper nice!! Super patience and super friendly! And super helpful!! And a block up, after 5th ave, there is a new Colombian cart! Food was amazing!! I had a tamal, and bought empanadas and arepa de choclo to bring to my hija who was waiting in the hotel. Just couple blocks up! read more

First and foremost, I'm a colombian by blood, born and not raised in Bogota Colombia, I came to the embassy is to see if I can have two witnesses as I've been told to do from the colombian notary No. 1 so I can apply for a cedula and live someday in Bogota, but when I went to the NY embassy, I noticed that the woman who runs the documentation on the 4th floor is extremely rude and not a happy person, who treats people like crap, to use a better word. If you go in to see alexandra beware that's all I can say, they think they're immune to criticism but worst they think they aren't able to be fired for a very callous attitude, so if you see this behavior please complain to the head of the consul and make your feelings and voice be heard. I will be doing this soon but not until I get what I come for, because if you argue with them they may retaliate and hold grudges and possibly put you on the back burner when you need there help. read more

I have being in lot of embassies (Italian (worst experience ever), French, Britain among others), and I must say the experience in the Colombian embassy has being by far the most efficient and the most pleasant one. Very attentive, courteous and friendly people who are willing to give you all the information you need and treat you with respect. I got there a bit after 9 am and I was able to be seeing right away without wasting in line for a long time like the other embassies. Just have present that this embassy only excepts payments in the form of money order only and that they have specific requirements for the photos of the ciudadania (Colombian ID) and they take their own photos for the passports. read more
