I honestly can't wait until my next appointment to learn about my health and what improvements can be made to live healthier and happier. Upon meeting Dr. Lum for the first time you can immediately feel very comfortable thru his kind and caring way. I knew that I did not feel well and that something was wrong with my health. I went to my own doctor and was sent to an endocrinologist to conduct some tests . I had many symptoms including darkness around my mouth, extreme fatigue, weight gain, etc. I had recently lost my mother that I cared for the last 30 years and after my tests came out "normal" the endocrinologist said that I was just deeply depressed. Well, I was deeply depressed, but I knew that my physical health was a problem. As it turns out through blood and urine testing so much has been uncovered about my health status. Dr. Lum is treating me for the health issues discovered including, MTHFR, heavy metal toxicity, cellular hypothyroid, vitamin deficiencies, neurotransmitter imbalance, adrenal fatigue, weight gain and years of constipation issues. I have been a patient for about 9 months and during this time there has been testing leading to discovery and treatment. Everything is not resolved , but so much progress has happened. Specifically , most of my diagnostic blood test numbers are improving. My darkness on my face has improved, my hair has grown more in a few months after not growing for the last 4 years, I am less fatigued and my I am feeling happier. Navigating this little-known illness was terrifying at the beginning. I decided to work with Dr. Yakel after doing a free phone consultation. He was amazing and helped me every step of the way. Dr. Yakel was also great about communicating with family members and explaining the complexities of CIRS and the importance of social support for patient recovery. The complex nature of treating CIRS is unfamiliar territory for most patients at the beginning, and Dr. Yakel was very thorough and efficient about answering questions in the patient portal, which I felt was very important. At this point, I am almost fully recovered and I believe that my cognition is 100% where it was before I got CIRS. I am an academic and am so grateful to be able to do the high-level thinking and learning I need for my research. Never have I had a doctor be so invested and excited for my recovery.
