Due to a very tight schedule, Matt only had about 45 minutes to get everything set up for the ceremony and then I threw a curve ball at him at the end with a song change. DJ Howie Rocked it! We had DJ Howie and his wife Karen for our wedding reception at Williamsburg Winery. They were very professional from first interaction on. I had to plan my wedding from Florida (long distance) and they were completely accommodating! Howie played every song I requested and ensured that everything had planned went according to the plan!! For our wedding, we got the Basic DJ package from Colonial DJs, but let me tell you, our DJ, Chris Phillips, was anything but basic. He was exceptional!!! Ahead of time, we sent him a youtube playlist of songs we liked, and he listened to all of it and had great additional suggestions for us, when it came to choosing songs for introductions, cake cutting, transitions into toasts, dinner time music, etc. He also understood our eclectic music tastes and played some great Bollywood and soundtrack music for us. But Chris wasn't just a DJ, he also emcee'd the reception, mostly, with some help from my husband's Best Man. He really kept the energy of the crowd up, and was so positive throughout the process and the event. A.C. Walker from Colonial DJ's was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!! We were able to discuss the details of my wedding reception on the phone prior to the event, and he ROCKED THE HOUSE. He completely understood my vision, and I couldn't have asked for anything more. We had Howie for our October wedding. He was excellent as master of ceremony and making sure we stuck to the timeline and were on track with everything during both the ceremony and reception--we are very appreciative of that. Our ceremony was perfect thanks to him. When it came to our reception music, we left the wedding a bit disappointed. We specifically asked no music requests from wedding guests unless it was a) from our parents b) from the MOH. Unfortunately, there were several song requests made and played that were NOT approved by my husband or me and weren't from parents or MOH. In addition, none of the group dances (Macarena, wobble, electric slide, etc.) we specifically requested were played. Also, the last song of the night played was unfortunately the wrong song, and I had to have him change it to the correct one. We spent hours picking songs, creating a playlist and filling out forms, and we gave him more than enough to pick from, and unfortunately many of the songs that should have been played were not and replaced with songs we didn't want played, including two chosen by the DJ. We drove from DC to Yorktown to have an hour long consultation with him to go over everything as well. I know this may seem like a minor issue to many people, but it is something I will remember from our wedding day. Thankfully, everyone still had an amazing time, but we wish our playlist and plan were respected a bit more. While I find the emails from the DJ very unprofessional after submitting our honest survey and review, I would still recommend the Colonial DJs company as a whole to others, but I would share my experience first. I think we unfortunately had a rare experience compared to others. read more

Our wedding reception turned out amazing thanks to Howie!!! A bunch of our guests made it a point to tell us how great our DJ was and how he kept the party going! These guys are the real deal! Howie was the DJ for our wedding last weekend, and we could not have asked for a better experience. Howie really took the time to get to know my husband and I and to put together a celebration that was uniquely ours - he even recommended the photographer we ended up hiring. No matter what crazy questions or requests I had, he was always extremely gracious and accommodating - the consummate professional! Everything went off without a hitch, from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception, and their prices are more than reasonable. Howie also deserves an extra special shout out for putting together a great night of fun despite my husband and I giving him exactly zero songs for our preferred song list. I am a wedding planner in the area and I absolutely love working with Colonial Dj's! I recommend them to all my brides and I have never had a bad experience yet. The company itself was great to work with however I feel it was way to expensive for what I received. As I bride you want the people you are paying a good chunk of money to communicate with you frequently. My DJ did not communicate well at all. He only began answering emails a couple weeks before the wedding and then it was on me to fill out all these forms when I already had my hands full. If he would have communicated from the beginning I would not have been rushed! I enjoyed our wedding and thought that he did a great job getting people on the dance floor! However for the amount of money that I paid the communication was awful. Again, had a blast the night of but wouldn't recommend to a bride that wants high communication or really any up until a few weeks before. read more

I attended a retirement ceremony this past weekend and we were disappointed. Our dj was Dj Howard and he did not DJ at all. All he did was play 30% of "some" of the playlist we provided. Knowing professional djs of my own Dj Howard is not a real disc jockey. In my experience a "disc jockey" knows how to MC a party and get the people moving. One of our guest ended up being the MC. He also did not mix or transition any of the songs on our playlist. He played Milli Vanilli! OMG who does that. That was not one of our songs. He let every song play until the end. Overall his professionalism was great but I'd skip on paying $700 for this type of Dj unless its for an old folks home. Word of advise go with a different DJ. read more

We had our wedding at the Williamsburg Winery last weekend and Jeff was our amazing DJ!! He was wonderful from day 1! Colonial DJs was recommended to us by our venue and Jeff was actually one of their favorite DJs they had worked with in the past, and I can see why! He was the only DJ I met with and knew he would be perfect for our big day! He was extremely professional and easy to work with. Jeff was wonderful for us as I am not a party planner and had idea what all could possibly be involved with planning music and entertainment for a wedding. He was patient, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. It was such a pleasure to work with him. He helped make our day so much fun and followed all of our requests and guest requests. The sound and music were flawless from the ceremony to cocktail hour and reception! He is truly a professional and he was one vendor that was 100% dependable. He also informed me ahead of time if he would be out of town or unavailable in case he wouldn't be able to respond as quickly as he normally does via email, etc. this was great to know he hadn't forgotten about us and didn't require further follow up. He helped create and keep our timeline moving and was there to guide us every step of the way! Our guests all LOVED him. My younger siblings (under 20) and grandparents (75+) and everyone in between could not say enough good things about him! We had the wedding nightmare you only read about from start to finish but Colonials DJ's-Ed Muddiman flexed and did an outstanding professional job. In specific, due to hurricane type forecasts, our ceremony and reception all had to be changed less than 36 hours before our wedding. Ed not only DJ'd a beautiful ceremony and reception now located between two locations that were not even previewed in advance. The ceremony (involving over 25 bridesmaids and groomsmen and 215 guests) was at the Williamsburg Regional Library-not your typical wedding venue. The reception was flipped into the William and Mary Alumni House. Ed didn't miss a beat and calmly helped us reinvent both spaces all the while staying on track with our written reception plan. We were smart to have chosen such a professional organization to walk with us that weekend. Most of our guests were really surprised by how perfectly everything went.
