Lisa Barbaro from grand plans was the first designer to respond to my request for information. We agreed in advance to a price for the design plan should I proceed work with her design. This was very fair. As a consultant myself, I actually suggested she charge a bit more for her service. I was impressed that she offered to visit my property so she could see firsthand the light, the soil, etc..Lisa was on time and prepared with a survey of my lot. She did not charge for this consultation, which I found to be a good first step. She spent a sufficient amount of time at my home, asking questions and gaining insight about me and my ideas and preferences. We agreed that she would provide me with a written plan for concept, a digital 2D plan and revision(s), plant lists, and care guidelines for phase one of my multi phase project. NEXT STEP- waiting for the schematic plan. Depending upon the anticipated cost vs my budget, I may proceed to implementing the project using Grand Plans or as a DYI. I think the crew's success is largely due to Percy's fast-paced, positive outlook on everything. For me, they built a complex drainage system of rain gardens, a 7ft high by 100 stone wall in a harbor , an 800sq ft patio of pavers, graded the yard, and paved the driveway. Oh, and he built a sandbox for my kids. Pricewise, he was inline with or better than every other estimate I found, except for the neighborhood undocumented guy. We hired NY Property Care to repave our church's parking lot. Less than a year later, we're already…read moreseeing multiple areas where weeds are growing through the asphalt. When we reached out for help, instead of standing by the work or honoring the 2-year warranty against cracks and depressions, the owner became defensive, dismissive, and ultimately insulting and unprofessional. Despite the written agreement stating that damaged asphalt would be removed and grading completed as needed, the owner later re-characterized the job as a "cap" and refused to offer any meaningful support. When I brought up the contract and asked reasonable questions about material quality or prep, he responded with sarcasm and personal insults, and calling our church's decision-making into question. This is not how a professional contractor should treat a customer, especially a church that paid over $40,000 for the job in good faith. I strongly advise others to look elsewhere for paving work. If something goes wrong, don't expect accountability or even respectful communication.

I had a last minute need for same-day grass installation in my backyard, in time for a party I was…read morehosting the week after. I called in, knowing absolutely nothing about grass or really what I needed other than I "need grass in my backyard", got someone on the phone who was very knowledgeable and helpful and knew how to help me, gave me a reasonable price quote, had someone come to me right away, and moreover, did even MORE: There was a tree stump in my backyard, that Greg when he came over even helped me with trying to chainsaw it down. He gave me advice on watering, optimal grass care, custom-tiled my grass to my weird looking backyard, gave me tips on how to clean up the sod delivery, and was just overall very above and beyond what I expected when I called in earlier that day with an "I need grass today" request. I called in a couple of other places, too, before I chose NYC Grass, and 1. they are faster than anyone else that I could find, 2. they seemed more knowledgeable and willing to help and transparent about how they work, 3. their pricing is super super reasonable, and 4. they are very flexible, they said they can work with whatever kinds of backyards (high weeds, tree stumps, and all) and they work fast too. So, 5/5 for sure!
