I came to Genesis to receive additional support after a traumatic birth and postpartum depression…read more I was assigned Joey Meador as a counselor. I was in a very vulnerable place and was met with a very trauma bonding dynamic. His credentials seemed very reassuring, but was nothing like how he presented himself. I needed Christian counseling and wise guidance and instead was met with guidance completely counter from what a Pastor should say. I was told stories about clients who were molested and walking around naked on the roof of their home, children who were forced in time out and unable to get out unless they French kissed their siblings, stories of his ex wife's abuse, his abuse, told he was having a hard morning because he didn't take his anti depressant, asked if he looked handsome with his new hair cut etc. When we first met, he made remarks about how I am a Duggar family and asked what made us become one. I wasn't sure what he meant. We have 7 children and I love them to pieces. A month later once he was comfortable, he asked me to watch a documentary called, "Happy Smiley People." It was about the Duggars and the upbringing of their kids and abuse. His Facebook is clear he is against republicans, stay at home wives, Christian's and with all the passive aggressive statements about the hardest job in counseling in counseling someone he disagrees with. His job is to be professional, not push his ideologies, harm someone's mental health by pushing narratives to confuse or make someone question their life. When I tried to leave counseling after he spoke about his mental health and having a bad day from not getting his anti depressant, he spoke about transgendered being in the Bible. He became defensive and kept gaslighting and using private details I've spoken about to keep me going as if he was fear mongering me. He made a lot of money each week having marital counseling and private from me, which I realized was not what I wanted anymore after seeing concerning traits in him. I came to counseling for wise counsel, support and healing, not to have a free for all and for me to leave worse than when I came in. I developed panic attacks and insomnia after leaving counseling because of his behavior and the amount he traumatized me from his many abuse stories. He is very manipulative and good at playing with someone's emotions. He was suppose to help me work through things, NOT compact and add more onto my plate or emotions with these stories that caused severe anxiety. Joey still works at Genesis and the fact that he does makes me deeply question their facility and their judgement. Someone like Joey is dangerous and should not be a counselor. Once I reported this behavior, he should have been fired immediately. Joey has about 11 patients a day from what he told me and it shows he is using his platform for financial reasons, not to intentionally help people. His job should be taken very seriously.

This practice is the most unethical and unprofessional psychiatric practice I have ever been seen…read moreat. I began seeing the nurse practitioner Shayne Morris for my medication management at the end of 2020 after moving to the area. I was on a pretty stable medication plan from my previous doc already so my appointments were easy with little to no need to contact the office between my appointments. In 2022 I'd tried to get an appointment for ADHD testing and that was a long, nightmarish process just to get the appointment. Testing was fine but I had to continuously reach out to them to get them to send me my results. After finally receiving my results, I again had to continuously reach out to get an appointment scheduled to go over treatment options. They set an appointment with the wrong doctor so when I showed up Dr. Hill told me tough luck and to schedule an appointment with Morris. Finally got that appointment after having to reach out over and over again. Morris started my treatment and it worked wonders for my ADHD. I had no idea what it felt like to be able to work without struggling with concentration and for the first time ever I felt like I was able to slow down and process for a change. The follow up was scheduled for 1/18. On 1/18 I had a phone appointment and Morris said he would send in my RX refills, verified my preferred pharmacy, set my next follow up for 4/22, and even advised me that the next appointment would be in person because he was starting to see people in office again. I thought everything was fine until 1/20 when I still hadn't been able to get my refills because they were not sent in so I began trying to reach out to the office thinking he's just overlooked it or forgotten to send them in. I was not able to get in touch with ANYONE. I called and left messages for the office and the "practice administrator". I called at different times of the day hoping that someone would answer. I sent emails to every email address I could find associated with the practice and I got no answer or call back. Finally on 1/31 I called right after they opened and got someone to answer the phone. According to the receptionist, Larry I believe, Shayne Morris had canceled my prescriptions without telling me. The receptionist could not or would not tell me why and kept saying that I needed to take it up with the provider. I tried to explain that I had not been able to reach the provider and asked if there was an email address for Morris I could use to get in touch with him. The receptionist said nope and that I needed to wait for Morris to reach out to me. I have not been able to speak with anyone since leaving me suddenly without my medication or time to find a replacement psychiatrist. Not only is ghosting your patients who trust you an ethical violation but accounting to 18VAC82-20-28 subsection B of the Administrative code of Virginia, it is illegal. I will be filing an official complaint with the Virginia department of Health Professionals because canceling a patients medication without notice with no contact after the fact is unethical and dangerous.

If anyone speaks negatively about her, best believe she ran a long run, because she will literally help anyone she can for as long as she can. Yes, she does work diligently to stay on time, but no matter how much I want her to speed up, I've learned that when she is running over with a patient, she is being a blessing to them behind those doors- whether on the computer, in-person or on the phone. I've never met anyone like her... she is 1 in a million. I mean, what provider have you ever been to and heard them through the walls singing to the patient... it can be anything from Happy Birthday, Break Every Chain, Don't Faint or I told the storm!!! If they need a prayer or a song to be lifted or feel better (at their request) she's singing and praying or BOTH to them. It is very rare that someone walks out of HER office and not know they were just in the presence of an angel. If she can make one person's low day turn to a brighter day, she is going to give it her all. She's a very rare find & definitely a masterpiece! If you've ever been graced with her presence, you know that you've finally found home. If I can think of anything else, I'll post that as well!! She deserves her flowers now! Simply amazing!
