Every bill starts with, "Previous Balance" and some date that does not have anything to do with the date of service. Nowhere on the bill is any indication of what the bill is for nor when the service was provided not the location where the event took place.......just "Previous Balance" (By the way, there is no running balance in her account. But every (new) bill says......you guessed it....) Talked to their people on several separate occasions about this business practice........I could recite their standard spiel about ...."call us and we will be happy to send a detailed inventory of the charges"...... because you hear it multiple times when you try to reason with "customer service" ALL I WANT IS A BILL THAT SAYS WHERE OR WHEN............. Not.....Previous Balance..... And --- patient focused, right? These 8 bills we have thus far have 6 different account numbers........all for the same lady.

I regularly see a doctor who is out of network and I have to submit the claims directly to my insurance because I pay for the entire visit each time. Over two years now and they have yet to actually process any of them correctly. I understand that the deductible wasn't met, but this is out of network, and I met my OOP Max. Why did I get refunded for the other 3 visits at the same provider for the same benefit year, if I hadn't met my deductible? I'm sorry, but that makes no sense. I will fill out this appeal form and send it in, but I really wish that you guys would note this as an issue and try to address it. I've had Sentara Health Plans for 2 years now and I have never once had an OON claim processed correctly. Every. Single. Time. I have to mail the documents, remind myself a month later to check on it, it's NEVER showing online, so then I have to e-mail or call you guys. Then, you tell me that you don't take e-mailed claims and that I have to mail them. I have to explain every time that I have already mailed the physical documents, usually more than once, before anyone will even answer me via email. The only reason I ever got the check for $380.00 earlier this year was because I kept getting passed around on the telephone. Everyone who answered my call and heard my issue said I had called the wrong department and they would get me to who I needed to talk to. Finally, after probably the 4th person, I was transferred to a woman who was definitely not the person I needed, however, she actually took the time to listen to me and heard that I had been trying to resolve my issue with no success. Even though it wasn't her job, she took my information and made sure that my check was processed and mailed out. She then CALLED ME BACK and left me a message stating that she took care of it. I wish I could remember her name to give her Kudos. But my point here is, this is unacceptable. I understand that in the beginning, when you bought out Optima, you had some growing pains. It's now almost a full 2 years later and you still: - Don't offer online claim submission - Don't process claims that are mailed - Apparently have no tracking system for member-submitted claims - Apparently don't give your call center staff access to the appropriate information...? Or something? - Even after meeting my Out of Pocket Max for 2025, and even after you processed a reimbursement for me for 3 other visits at the same provider for the same benefit year, you recently "applied my out of pocket payment of $140.00 to my deductible." I'm sorry...what deductible??? I met my Out of Pocket Max for the year! After a few months in business, you should have been able to address these issues, yet they continue. Please address this. I will be posting this message to a public review forum to bring more attention to this matter, as you clearly have failed to address it thus far.

They let me take my time getting up to leave as I have POTS and mixed with dizziness from anesthesia wasn't fun but they took such amazing care of me and I can't thank them enough! The only rude person I came across was at check in downstairs there was a younger woman who was tall and thin who was extremely rude to us but literally everyone else we talked to were BEYOND kind! They had a young man performing Covid screenings at the entrance and I was immediately checked in and taken back not 5 minutes later. I was out the door before my appointment time. I've never been registered and scanned in less than 20 minutes for anything, ever! I was completely impressed. I have been here previously for walk-in (ie. first come, first served) lab work and there was a bit of a wait at lunch time, which I expected. The registrar who took my info and got me checked in was polite, friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this Sentara location for diagnostics!

In the two building complex you'll find just about any (if not all) of Sentara's Medical practices. Most Sentara specialists practice at more than one, but not all, locations. So you may not find your favorite doctor at this medical complex. The location isn't convenient for me. But it's the only place my Sentara Foot Surgeon practices. My Sentara Cardiologist also practices at both this Medical Center & one on the Sentara Norfolk General Campus. I normally see him at the closer Norfolk location. But if I can get a quicker appointment, I have gone to his office in Chesapeake. The office personnel at all the practices I've seen at the Careplex have been friendly & pleasant. The availability of care from most types of specialists is quite convenient for those who live in Chesapeake and SW Virginia Beach. A Sentara Physical Therapy Center is located in the Careplex. There are also non Sentara practices in the center, including both Pediatrics & Family Practice. Both buildings are meticulously maintained & have large parking lots. Handicapped parking spaces are located near the entrance to each building. Shopping & eateries are in close proximity.

I got turned around the first time, and it took a little extra time to find the maternity ward. But the next time it was easier and I never got lost again lol. On one of my visits, I walked through the oldest structure on campus which was the original hospital built in 1827. This is the oldest military hospital in the US. It still had the original stone exterior (outsise of original hospital) which had been closed in with hallways surrounding it. I checked out some cool paintings throughout the hospital. I learned a lot of history by reading the captions of the paintings. This biulding was turned into an administrative building. The campus was huge! And very pretty as it sits on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. There was lots of green space which was beautiful.
