Finally, enough time has passed that I can write a review that's factual instead of fueled with rage. Alright, not a good start to a review for a massage spot, aye? For my birthday, my boyfriend bought me a massage certificate for 90 minutes. It was a special online rate and the system assigned me to a massage therapist. With the gift certificate in hand, I headed over. I took the afternoon off from work and decided that this was really the day to treat myself. Fast forward to 45 minutes of sitting awkwardly in a cramped hallway with no one around. When I told one of the employees, who had just finished a massage, that I had been waiting for a while, she checked the schedule. And bam! There I was, scheduled for the time 45 minutes long passed. Unsure what to do, the employee gave me a phone number to my massage therapist, encouraging me to call her and see what the delay was. The woman who answered the phone swiftly and abruptly informed me that she does not work there - nor has she worked there for quite a while. And there I sat... utterly adrift, wasting my birthday on a massage that was not to be. The employee wasn't sure what to do and mentioned that she had to leave, and therefore, I too had to leave. Just as I started to gather my things, the owner came in with her dog. Upon hearing what had happened, the owner informed me that this was a glitch in their system that they had experienced before, and that she did not believe she had time to fit me in. I'll admit it - between the tension of sitting in that little hallway, and all of the unsatisfactory responses I had received up until this point, I couldn't help myself and I started to cry. I ask for a refund for the massage certificate, agreeing that I would leave as long as I could get the refund. At this point, the owner's demeanor changed. She rearranged her schedule (which, she assured me she had come in to do paperwork and that it wasn't much trouble) and said that she could fit me in. I countered, saying that I just wanted to leave and forget that this happened, as long as my boyfriend's card could be refunded. The owner countered with phrases like "please let me do this for you" while mixing it in with the guilt of having her modify her schedule for me. I reluctantly consented. The massage was okay - ultimately, not really my style - and it was incredibly hard to relax when I still felt this overwhelming desire to run the hell away. Her dog was in the room with us - and it appears that it suffered from gastrointestinal distress. When the owner booted the dog out for the noise they were making, it was only a few minutes before another massage therapist let the dog back in. When the massage was over - less than 60 minutes later - she took the full value of my 90 minute massage certificate. Strangely, she left the dog behind while I dressed, so I had a dog standing my the door, eagerly awaiting me to hurry up and allow it to get out. Oh, dog, I feel your pain. A lot of things disappointed me about my experience. I was furious that this glitch was a known problem that had not been fixed. Further, if this problem was known, it's disappointing that no one saw the schedule and could put two-and-two together. I regret redeeming the services - especially for significantly less time than I had intended. I do not know why a refund seemed so implausible. I do not know why, when I ask to leave, and have tears in my eyes, that it made the most sense to guilt me into staying. And most of all... I believe in the importance of community websites like Yelp. I rely on and trust the reviews that people post here. My boyfriend selected this location because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. And yet, this experience is indelibly marked in my mind as the worst way to spend a birthday. Maybe this business will work for you. Sadly, it failed me. read more

Excellent couples massage deal. For $200 you can get a 90 minute couples massage! You can't find a deal like that anywhere. Rachel is really nice and made our experience so comfortable. She served us drinks with strawberries and chocolate. The massage studio is a small office in a office complex with other holistic practices, but once inside Rachel made us feel so pampered. I think this couples massage was even nicer than going to an upscale spa. She even offered us chocolate during the massage! Now that's service. The massage itself was wonderful. Her colleague that she had join her worked on me while Rachel worked on my boyfriend. They were both excellent. I mentioned to my massage therapist I had shoulder tension and she really took her time to work out what she could. I really appreciate the effort, hospitality and the massage therapy. I would absolutely go back for another massage and highly recommend trying the couples massage some time. read more

I had a WONDERFUL massage with Erica! I was looking for a therapeutic massage to help relieve pain in my shoulder and neck area. Erica had very firm pressure, which is what I was looking for! She gave a perfect deep tissue massage! I could tell that she knew what she was doing as she targeted my knotted areas without me specifically pointing them out. Even one day later I felt relief and better. I will most definitely be a returning customer to Colorado Body Wisdom! I went to see Rachel while vacation on Boulder. I selected her based on the reviews I read on yelp, the info on her website, and because she responded to my emails immediately. Just to give some background, in the three months prior to my trip, my mother passed away and both my grandparents had to be placed in nursing homes. I was primary caregiver to all of them, and spent most of my days on the phone with doctors and doing paperwork for insurance. I also had to empty their apartments out, which did not help my back and shoulders. As a result of this stress, my back seized into a massive knot, and a prior injury was re-aggravated, leading to awful bursitis in the right shoulder. I had been going to acupuncture for a month, without much relief. When I got to Rachel's nicely appointed space, she introduced herself and handed me forms to list prior/current injuries, levels of stress and other info. Then she asked me in depth questions about what I was hoping to achieve with the massage, what kind of stress I was under and more. I was blown away, prior to that the most info a massage therapist asked me was "Do any areas need attention?" You can tell Rachel takes her craft very seriously and truly wants to help people feel better. Onto the actual massage, WOW. Amazing. She immediately picked up on the spasms in my back, and worked on those, but not to the neglect of any other areas. Within minutes I could literally feel the stress exiting my body as I became more and more relaxed. I went into a peaceful meditative state that felt like heaven after months of grueling stress and grief. It doesn't get better than that. Rachel also does energy work, which prior to seeing her, I had never heard of, and I was quite skeptical about. She told me that she incorporates into into the massage, and I quickly forgot about it. But when she used her healing "powers" there was no ignoring it. I'm not even sure I can put it into words, but her energy is truly healing and comes from a place of complete empathy and non-judgement. I felt so good when I left that I had to schedule a 90 minute session for later in the week. read more

I honestly can't say enough good things about Rachel's skills as a massage therapist. She is truly a healer who genuinely cares about my health and well-being, and I schedule appointments with her as often as I can. I travel to Colorado several times a year for work and religiously commit 90 minutes to Rachel at Colorado Body Wisdom on every single trip. Worth every penny!! Her massage technique is strong yet gentle and calming, it's an incredibly therapeutic experience. She has a vast understanding of the body and has clearly had extensive training - more than ANY massage therapist I've found back home in Texas. Another bonus is the energy work!! I hadn't experienced energy work before coming to Colorado Body Wisdom, it takes your massage to a whole new level. Rachel provides holistic treatment for body, mind and spirit - the whole package. She's amazing and if I could give her more than 5 stars, I would!! ***UPDATE*** During my last trip to Boulder in November, I received a 90-minute massage from Malaine since Rachel was already booked during the time I wanted to come in. Wow! She was amazing, too! Sometimes when you see a "sub" they don't always live up to your expectations, but this was definitely not the case with Malaine. On my next visit, I might even try someone else just to see if all the therapists are as skillfully trained as Rachel and Malaine - if so then Colorado Body Wisdom may be my all-time favorite self-indulgence EVER. read more

Each masseuse was conscientious about our bodies, and from beginning to finish we never felt rushed or pressured. My boyfriend and I were on vacation in Colorado when we came here for massages. The directions to find this place are terrible! It's so hidden, so we were late to our appointment. We were the last appointments of the day so they were nice enough to take us. My boyfriend had a terrible neck pain from our flight 2 days before. He said his massage was decent, but not the best. He left still in pain. I had a prenatal massage because I'm pregnant. From what they said, they don't do too many prenatal massages so it wasn't very satisfying. Both of our masseurs were new and had just become licensed within 6 months, but I think they did decent for being new. For the price we paid I would have expected more. read more

I decided to receive some bodywork while visiting Boulder, and I am so very impressed and thankful for the work I received from Rachel and Michelle. I received a 2-hour massage from Rachel, and the energy work/Polarity Therapy mixed with therapeutic massage really helped my nervous system calm down from all the travel and stresses of daily life. I was already floating from the massage when I received a 90-minute acupuncture session from Michelle. She opened all of the "exit" channels in my body, and I felt an emotional release as well as a couple of physical releases. I can't tell you how good it feels to move stuck energy from your body, and the love and care I received from these two ladies combined did the trick. My husband and I decided to drive up to Boulder for lunch and a couples massage. We've never gotten massages in the area so I turned to Yelp for recommendations. Our top priority is to find great therapists, which we definitely did find here. Cara and Margaret did an excellent job and we felt we got a great deal with the 90 min. couples price. I believe I had Cara and she did a beautiful job working on my aching feet! The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the space/decor could definitely use some TLC. The waiting area is very tiny and cramped and the room that they do the couples massage in is not really big enough for 2 tables. Also I really prefer a dark room and the blinds in this room are broken and cannot be closed. I couldn't help imagining how cute it could be with some fresh paint, and simple clean updated décor. Other couples mentioned cider and chocolates in their review but we were not offered either. Not a big deal but wanted to mention. If you want ambiance and other spa amenities you should probably go somewhere else. If all you care about is getting a great massage by friendly, thoughtful therapists, I highly recommend this place. read more
