But the…read moreadministration is awful, specifically one of the VPs and the principal who seams to know everyone's name but isn't really anyone's pal. They fail to force out bad teachers. They marginalize advanced kids who don't fit into their cookie-cutter curriculum. They don't give counselors enough authority, so every request that's out-of-the-ordinary is a 3 month undefined process that can be vetoed at any time. They pay lip service to "caring for and respecting the individual," but they're committed to preserving the status quo at the expense of the individual -- except when IEPs for delayed kids require individual accommodation; then no expense is too great and no exception is too unreasonable. If your kid is precocious and defines themselves by something other than a varsity sport, then do your family a favor and check out concurrent enrollment options through community college and an online charter school like Colorado Preparatory Academy (CPA). CPA gives your kid unrestricted access to sit-down community college classes, and the State pays for it. The courses are taught by instructors who hold at least a Masters in their field, and the courses count toward college. Also, those courses count as two high school semesters for each one college semester: so double high school credit. Your kid can earn enough State-funded college credits to enter CU, CSU, Mines, or Metro as a college junior while still participating in activities through Vista or any other high school. My kids took advantage of that wonderful option and have never been happier or more engaged.

The schedules can be pretty confusing as they rotate through odd and even days. That is easy to get use to, but could be an issue for some people starting school here. The last thing that isn't good is that they run out of food WAY too fast. The lines get really long and normally students can't get the things that they ask for because they run out that quick. Even if they get what they want, lunch ends so fast. I've had experiences where I took my first bite and they started announcing lunch clean up. Rather than those three things, Powell is an absolutely wonderful school and would recommend it to anybody. I really hope to see Powell get even better than it is now.

AHS has always been a progressive Littleton school preparing the students for higher education. I did notice as time was a going on... the biggest difference was the amount of entitlement of some students as the area around AHS grew and became more affluent. Our family started the application process for our son to enter Arma Dei Collaborative kindergarten…read more(Fall/2026) in October of 2025. We met all the criteria they had listed. We went through their very lengthy application process including having to pay for an application fee and $165 for student testing fee. I took my son to the testing. The staff said I had to wait outside the room during his testing and they would privately test my son. After the test, I asked how everything went and what was done during the test. They refused to tell me any details following the test (which was a bit uncomfortable), but told me it would be discussed during our family interview. Again, at the family interview they did not discuss my son's testing...My son is entering kindergarten and is reading at a first grade level. His preschool teachers regularly tell me he is ahead academically. I wasn't concerned about his performance but I do like to know what was discussed with my child and how he did. A day before May 1st, we finally received an answer regarding his admission. He was not accepted there was zero explanation for their decision. Just a short e-mail saying your not accepted, our policy is to not give any reasoning behind our decision, thanks for your time and money. The application was long, drawn out, lacked transparency about what testing your child is being given... and then their answer came at nearly the end of the school year. It is now very late for us to start looking into other programs as many of them are already filled. I called again to see if I could have the results of the testing we paid for but they never returned my call. Ultimately, we know it is best that he was not admitted. We do not want our child in a program that is not transparent with us as parents. It is just very frustrating to have waisted so much time, money and effort to apply. You may match all the criteria they have listed and they will gladly allow you to put in all the effort with zero intention of admitting your child or valuing your family.
