Like many kids, my son was apprehensive about changing schools, but within a month he realized that he was where he belonged, and now he tries to spend every extra minute he can at school attending before or after school clubs. The International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum is an excellent basis for in-depth education and exploration, but the true strength of Mackintosh is the amazing teaching faculty and staff. All of the teachers seem to love their jobs and their students and with the low student/teacher ratios, the teachers truly know the kids and how to elicit their best thinking and work. Like all learners, gifted students have strengths and weaknesses, and the teachers are able to offer broad enrichment to support a student's strengths as well as support and scaffolding for a student's challenge areas. They are able to support a learner who may be three years ahead in math, but who finds writing a struggle. The teachers are willing to differentiate instruction and assignments and meet students where they are and gently push them to grow and believe in their abilities. Some more things that I love about the school: amazing grade-level theatrical performances, multi-day nature-based field trips for the older grades, outside lunch as weather allows, and a well-rounded curriculum that includes PE every day, plus either performing or visual arts every day and a period every day that is split between Spanish some days and design others. I wish more kids could experience a Mackintosh education. I saw some comments about bullying. I am not personally aware of any bullying at the school, and I haven't had any parents share any bullying experiences with me. Also, I haven't experienced any "cliques" among the parents. Everyone seems very nice and genuine. If you have a gifted learner who would benefit from a warm, enriching, education, we strongly recommend that you consider Mackintosh Academy.

Maria Cardona was in charge of creating from scratch the curriculum for a handful of kids for a few years. My daughter improved in her writing and reading comprehension a lot. The topics covered during all those years touched on many areas so I'm very appreciative of Maria Cardona's creative curriculum and patience throughout those years. We also had very good experiences with all classes, from advanced math, to art, and everything in between. I'm sure that will be key for my daughter's high school and college future

I had the pleasure of visiting this fine school recently, and was very impressed! I met several of…read morethe teachers, and even sat down with the chairman of the board. It's clear they take the responsibility of providing a quality Christ-focused education very seriously. Not just in high scoring academics, but in shaping and nurturing the character of young people. These kids are very blessed to have this school that cares so deeply for their lives. The results show in the students! As I was waiting in the hall for a couple minutes, a couple 12 year old kids introduced themselves to me on their own initiative, and we carried on a mature conversation. I really believe in what this school is doing, and am so glad for every child that has the opportunity to attend here!

We went through their very lengthy application process including having to pay for an application fee and $165 for student testing fee. I took my son to the testing. The staff said I had to wait outside the room during his testing and they would privately test my son. After the test, I asked how everything went and what was done during the test. They refused to tell me any details following the test (which was a bit uncomfortable), but told me it would be discussed during our family interview. Again, at the family interview they did not discuss my son's testing...My son is entering kindergarten and is reading at a first grade level. His preschool teachers regularly tell me he is ahead academically. I wasn't concerned about his performance but I do like to know what was discussed with my child and how he did. A day before May 1st, we finally received an answer regarding his admission. He was not accepted there was zero explanation for their decision. Just a short e-mail saying your not accepted, our policy is to not give any reasoning behind our decision, thanks for your time and money. The application was long, drawn out, lacked transparency about what testing your child is being given... and then their answer came at nearly the end of the school year. It is now very late for us to start looking into other programs as many of them are already filled. I called again to see if I could have the results of the testing we paid for but they never returned my call. Ultimately, we know it is best that he was not admitted. We do not want our child in a program that is not transparent with us as parents. It is just very frustrating to have waisted so much time, money and effort to apply. You may match all the criteria they have listed and they will gladly allow you to put in all the effort with zero intention of admitting your child or valuing your family.

Fathers show up in golf gear, loudly talking about their "side girl" for everyone to hear, while the Prozac wives act like cliquey mean girls. The dads without money trail the real rich guys like lapdogs, hoping to score an investment. It's honestly sad, because the teachers are good, but with parents like this it's no surprise many of the kids are rude and obnoxious. If you're looking for a school that's really just a networking event full of fake, entitled people -- and where you'd better have a million in the bank for the housewives to even acknowledge you -- this is the school for you. If you want a school grounded in Catholic values, skip it. Thank God my kids only have a year or two left, or I'd transfer them

Our oldest initially started kinder at our assigned public elementary (CHVE) and after seeing the amazing job that All Souls was doing with our kids in ELC, we ended up making the decision to move her to All Souls mid way through the year in Kindergarten. It was the best decision we have made for our family. The education they are receiving as well as the dedication to the arts makes this school a truly special place. At the end of the day, I think the thing we are most happy with is the fact that our kids are going to spend the next few years surrounded by teachers, students and families that are loving and supportive.

I grew up going to this church. Although I stopped going when I was in high school, I would go to…read morethe Christmas Eve service every year and it always made me feel like I was home. Until I was in my 20's I only went to holiday services and then I stopped going all together, I guess I just didn't make it a priority. My dad played the drums for almost my whole life for the later service..and he never stopped going until he passed. His service was there.. that was the last time I went inside that church. It was too painful. I grew up listening to Pastor Voight until he left and Pastor Larson stepped in. Pastor Larson is a great man and a great Pastor. With the terrible events happening all over the world, I am finding my way back to God, and because of what Pastor Larson taught me, I'm so excited to continue my path back to Jesus. I moved out of state a few years ago and just never made the time to look for another.. also felt wrong to commit to another... but this church was the foundation for me as a person. I remember in middle school when my sisters and I were going through some terrible things, I started ditching with this girl who smoked. I never smoked myself but Pastor Larson gave me a chance and helped me back on the right path before I even went down that direction. It's crazy to think that one man steered me back before anything bad happened. Pastor Larson and the people of this church have always been such good people, truly. They've helped my family in more ways than they should have. This church will always have a special place in my heart. I am forever grateful. My dad loved this church with his entire being, and my grandma still watches the services in her living conditions-she never misses a service. Because of all this, I have been giving back to them even out of state and will continue to until I pass. Pastor, Ascension Lutheran Church, if you ever read this; thank you. Love, Katrina Ruggera.
