The Southern Toy Depot was a pleasant surprise for my partner and I when we went on our near-regular monthly visit to Estes this past Thursday. What immediately drew us in was the service. One of the owners of the store was there and extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and friendly. What engaged us to start off was his interest in He-Man and She-ra, which was clear by his extensive appealing collection lining the store. He was also actively shelving some of the more unique Funko I've seen. What hooked us the most though was his wood-working. He had toys of all shapes, sizes, and price points that any child or adult could love. Him and his team work with specially ordered wood to make trains, garbage trucks, log loaders, baby rattles, pull-along toys, fishing poles (and fish), toy swords, magnets, ornaments, building blocks, and even a full glam beauty set that includes lipstick, blush compact, mirror, perfume bottle, and more (all made out of wood of course). I bought a very reasonably priced desk sized rocking horse and toy dinosaur, and my partner bought himself a very cool painted tank, but it were up to us and a bigger budget we would have walked away with some of the more impressive toy vehicles. They are really all in here for this business and it was reflected in the conversation as well as the store. What will no doubt draw your eye is all the statuary around. It is but one of the types of things they sell. There is clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, and other unique items. It is worth the stop just to look around but I suspect you will leave with something. I look forward to seeing this business grow and become a part of Estes.
