They have a good size Kid Zone. Then they have the history of Fort Collins. Then, I believe, they have a rotating exhibit. At the time was all about Skin. On humans and animals. It was fascinating. There is so much to do and explore here! The music section is definitely a favorite as you get to test out so many instruments! Everything was well maintained (minus one or two exhibits that weren't functioning at the time). The toddler area is great for the little ones to be separate. Personally, I was absolutely stoked for the shadow wall - it's just a fun/silly thing to do. When we ventured upstairs we didn't realize there was a theater until a staff member asked if we were there to see the show. Since we had to get going, I asked if I could peak in real quick to check it out and he was totally fine with it. It looks so cool! We will definitely be back to catch a show in the future.

Woodward Governor or Woodward Industrial Controls is a company that installs governors into cars so…read morethey do not go over a designated speed. They may manufacture other things but this is what they are best known for. Woodward always had fantastic lawns, flower gardens, water features and the like when you drive by. Definitely one of the best businesses in town to have such beautiful grounds! I am indeed envious! Woodward does not hold back during Christmas time either and if you go to the last entrance heading west on Drake you are in for a free treat of doing a drive through on a small portion of their grounds to view their Christmas display! When you drive through the Christmas diorama you are supposed to turn off your headlights, parking lights are ok. On the brief circled drive when you go through you will see various Christmas props like churches with music coming out of them, carolers, an elf workshop and so on. I have been going here almost on an annual basis when I drive around town once a year to look at Christmas lights. Over the years the scenario has changed very little, same displays and decorations which is ok. It is a winning combination! Probably the most recent change was that they converted all of their lights to LED. So anyone out there who likes to drive around and look at Christmas lights once a year this is a fine stop to make! Woodward also has a location in Loveland as well. I am not too sure if they do a Christmas display there but what I do know is that their grounds are definitely not as beautiful as their Fort Collins location.

The Loveland Museum is small, but mighty, with a surprising number of functions packed into a…read morelimited space. The museum was founded in 1937 by local author and mountain guide, Harold Dunning, who had begun to collect historical memorabilia around 1919. Today it is an accredited art and history museum with a vibrant schedule of events and classes. Half of the museum covers the history of the area, highlighting Great Western Sugar (sugar beets), which was the major local employer in the first half of the 20th century. There is a small, but interesting gift shop and a basement auditorium, but the other key function of the museum is art exhibits of local, regional, and national interest. The north wing of the museum is a large gallery space. The auditorium and mezzanine are also used for art display. The museum has presented very well-curated exhibits over the years and I often enjoy making the long drive from Denver to get my art fix.

The museum worked with us last-minute to ensure we still had all the resources we needed. Ally, the event coordinator, did numerous walk-throughs with us, was there all night to ensure everything went smoothly, and worked with a great staff.

This museum continues to amaze me. Longmont is a mid-sized city that feels like a small town. In…read morethis non-Denver sized city, this museum has had exhibits showing the works of Picasso, Ansel Adams and Red Grooms! They have had an exhibit on Washi: The Japanese Culture of Paper Making. They also have an annual Day of the Dead exhibit created by community members and local artists. There is a permanent exhibit called 'Front Range Rising' which discusses the history of Longmont. You can see many of these past exhibits in a virtual tour on their website! In addition to the exhibits, there are movies, classes, performances and walking tours. The classes and movies relate in some way to the art exhibits. For example, an exhibition called 'Build: Design & Create with LEGO' was connected with the short films created by the legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. During the Picasso exhibit you were able to take a class to learn how to create a Picasso style portrait. A recent update as of July 2025 is that the galleries will be closed until Fall 2026 while the Longmont Museum has a major expansion of its building. There will be even more galleries and a larger children's area! While the galleries will be closed they are still planning to have events in the auditorium and courtyard. They will also continue their educational programs.

A beautifully performing orchestra!…read more Dr. Howard Skinner conducted the music at my first visit to UCCC to hear the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. I had heard the same music before, many times, as it was one of my favorite compositions of all time. When I heard this music again, this time under the baton of Dr. Skinner, with the orchestra members performing more wonderfully than I could ever have imagined, I was enraptured. I purchased season tickets year after year and loved every performance. Dr. Skinner favored the classic composers - Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Wagner, and so on - at least that is what is clearest in my memory. What I heard from orchestra members was that Dr. Skinner had turned the orchestra from a fairly good one to an excellent one, and from an organization that had a little support to one that had tremendous support. I became one of those supporters, socially and organizationally as well as financially. Things change. With the retiring of Dr. Skinner from the orchestra came organizational, selection, and performance changes. There is much music in the world, and every genre (check Grove's or, if laz,y wikipedia, for examples of some of the countless genres) has its multitude of fans. So I know that Greeley is as happy with its orchestra today as it was with its orchestra of yesterday. With great respect for the excellence of both conductor and orchestra, I embolden myself to say that the choices of which compositions to perform leaves me wanting. We do not often travel for concerts or other musical performances. When we do, the classics remain my favorite. I avoid moderns even though there are some whom I find quite enjoyable. I likewise avoid performances that seem to be self-promotions or resume-packing. I truly love the Greeley Philharmonic for the joy it has given me, my family, and our friends. The auditorium is lovely albeit small. The stage is adequate, albeit small. The cost of admission for me is almost inconsequential, but more objectively I suppose it is "moderate". The quality of performance is high. The staff consist of both paid and volunteer workers, and I have found each and every one of them to be cheerful, welcome, and helpful when needed. The most difficult part of the performances is to listen to the sponsors give little speeches, and to realize that in some cases, a business or hospital which says it is "doing everything we can to keep costs low" is contributing thousands of dollars as their sponsorship - which means they are doing something they don't have to do, which will raise the cost of their services. Can't they see the incongruity of their words and their actions? I look forward to some future season in which all eyes and ears are on the illustrious, proven standard-bearers of western composition, whoever they are.

***** WARNING TO ARTISTS *****…read more I submitted a fee-based entry for possible inclusion of my artwork into a competition hosted by the Center for Fine Art Photography. I submitted through the artist hosting website the Photography Center chose to utilize which is called Cafe Listings. I logged the notification date as stated in the prospectus on my calendar and looked forward to notification on that day of either acceptance or denial into the exhibition. Having used Cafe Listings dozens of times in the past, I was expecting their standard automated email notification listing each specific art piece with an indication of acceptance or denial into the exhibition. The notification date came and went. I received no notification. In the days that followed, the art pieces I submitted were "held hostage" as I was unable to solicit them elsewhere pending notification from the Center for Fine Art Photography. Days later I checked the Photography Center website and discovered selections had been made days earlier. I contacted the Executive Director and Curator and insisted on a full refund for non-compliance on their part for not having notified me. (Let me note here, that approx. 8 years ago when I contacted the Photography Center for a different incidental business matter, to my shock, they placed me on their mailing list. I immediately removed myself from their list.) The Executive Director and Curator explained that they did send me a notification (not through Cafe Listings as they should have, but instead through iContact, their mailing list), but the notification bounced because I removed myself from their mailing list (8 years ago, mind you!). She also stated she would not be refunding my submission fee. I contacted the credit card company I paid the submission fee with, Bank of America. I submitted to them copies of the prospectus, the email exchanges, and a sample of what a Cafe Listings artist notification should look like. Bank of America has no tolerance for the irresponsible, sloppy, and incompetent business practices that were demonstrated by the Photography Center. They reversed the charge and refunded my entire submission fee. How the so-called Executive Director and Curator does one thing, is how she does everything. Irresponsible. Sloppy. Incompetent.

The Center for Fine Art Photography has exhibitions and events commensurate with much larger…read morecities. The gallery is free or donation based to visit, and there are lots of events hosted there. I recently attended a flash workshop with photographer Tom Bol and a curators talk for their portraits show. If you enjoy photography, then you'll like this place.
