LOCATION: Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park (location is tricky...just walk across the…read morebridge located behind Yuma's Old City Hall). The main intersection for the Old City Hall (with ample parking here) is North 2nd Ave and West 1st St. PARKING: The event provides free parking in the dirt lots surrounding the Old City Hall. We were actually turned away from a couple of parking areas (due to max capacity). However, be patient, you'll find spot! Street parking was full... ATMOSPHERE AND DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: This year was Yuma's 13th annual event held the weekend of 11-13 March. This event was ALL about food!! The size of the crowd (for Yuma) was large and very festive! The food court section was right near the entrance featuring Hofbraus House, Nature's Express, and vendors serving kabobs, Dippin' Dots, and other tasty items. Be careful...don't eat too much here - there is large building deeper in the depot hosting a variety of local businesses with samplings of their food! This area was called the "Yuma Recipe Box Event" which allowed patrons to purchase wristbands for $10 and enter a building with many eateries flaunting samples of their food! Local businesses here included Da Boyz, The Garden Café, Ciao Bella, Market Wine Bistro, Quechan, Papa Murphy's Pizza, Hilton Garden Inn Restaurant, Burgers & Beer, Jennie Wah's, and La Fonda. We ate so much! There were also beer (Fat Tire, etc.) and wine tastings from Yuma's Main Squeeze. There were many exhibits from local businesses such as Yuma Community Food Bank (the set up their own Farmer's Market with super-cheap produce like two pounds of butter lettuce for $1 - bunches of spring onions for 25 cents or radishes for 50 cents!), Dole (gave out free samples), and others. There were also date shakes and kettle corn stands - yummy! There were chef exhibitions with fruit carving, chocolate-dipped-fruit samples, and cooking demonstrations. Entertainment seemed non-stop: live belly-dancers, local high school cheerleaders, other dancing organizations, etc. CONCLUSION: It was a beautiful day for walking around and seeing so many local eateries. Living in Yuma for over 8 years, I am ashamed that I never visited the festival previously. I WON'T miss it again! I strongly recommend that you check it out!

I went on the Parker Tube Float for the first time in 2024. We camped nearby and had a nice cool…read moreplace to return to. It was fun. We brought our own raft and drinks with a cooler. We even brought 2 small dogs with us. We drove from our campsite to the parking lot that is at the end of the float. Although we had to park the furthest away from the loading area and carry all of our 'stuff' there, that was okay. We made it. The staff at the lines to get on the buses were volunteers and very nice. We got our t-shirts in advance. Cute. The lines were long. But, they moved quickly and they had a little shade. They provided ice cold bottled water in coolers set up along the lines, which was very nice. They loaded all of our stuff into the lower part of the bus, so only people with small personal items were on the bus. It was easy to pick up our 'stuff' at the unloading zone. It took about an hour from the time we arrived at the loading zone to actually hit the water. The river runs slow and you get pushed to the sides by the current. However, a big plus - they had guys on jet ski's that would come around and pull you back out into the current. We met some nice people, enjoyed the day in the sun (we had a cover over our floating island), and the nice cool river. My only recommendation is more space at the end of the float for exiting the river, or assistance getting people to move on out. The exit area was very crowded as people would get out and just stand right there to deflate their tubes, rafts, etc... and all their stuff.

We usually tie our tubes together and then float! It's so much fun and nothing compares to chilling in the water and on the float. You can also drink on the open water! It really is one of my favorite summer activities.

I was told this is the largest RV show west of the Mississippi, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Tons of really cool vendors, plenty of RVs to explore and purchase, and so much to see. The best part of the show, though, is the people--locals, nomadic RVers, and van-lifers all coming together. The shared stories and experiences made this visit feel extra special to me. Everyone was amazing. I even picked up a nice sterling silver piece from a local vendor. Don't miss Tyson Wells Marketplace either--packed with all kinds of vendors, food, ice cream, and more. A must-visit if you love camping, RV living, or the nomadic lifestyle. Cheers!

We had a lot of fun visiting today…read more There were a lot of food vendors, we tried veggie lumpia for lunch with this terrific sweet and spicy sauce. We played a game and I won a pink pony!! We saw vendors with goodies for sale. And we got to hear a lot of great music live in the stands. The carnival had a lot of rides for kids and adults to enjoy. The 4H display was so much fun to look at, the kids are really creative. They requested masks and social distancing, they had hand sanitizer stations. Inside the building and outside. We had a terrific time.

I did a long weekend trip to Palm Desert with the goal of visiting the Salton Sea. Originally, I…read moreplanned to loop the entire shoreline, but after talking with a ranger at the visitor center, I stuck to the east side and doubled back, which was definitely the right call. Our turnaround point was Salvation Mountain, right next to Slab City. Before going, I had read about Leonard Knight and the story behind the mountain, which honestly made the visit more meaningful. The dedication and message behind it are almost as interesting as the site itself. It is kind of amazing that the structure still stands today and is in such solid condition. The drive out was mostly fine, though hot and dusty, especially on a Saturday afternoon. I would recommend going earlier in the day if possible. The mountain itself looked better maintained than I expected. The colors were bright, and it was clear that ongoing work is being done to preserve it. I left a small donation since it felt like a meaningful effort to support. That said, it did not fully resonate with me. While I can appreciate the effort and story, the style of art and the surrounding environment did not quite click. If you are into outsider art or off grid communities, you will probably get more out of it than I did. The biggest downside is the immediate setting. Being next to Slab City definitely impacts the experience. The vibe felt a bit uncomfortable at times, and we did not stay long or continue on to East Jesus. Overall, I am glad I visited. It is unique, and the story behind it adds depth, but it is more of a one time stop for me than a place I would go out of my way to revisit. 3 stars.

The delay was an hour and a half $30 parking fee announced last minute as well. My boyfriend and I got boxed in which is a safety hazard. . Only 6 food vendors and that includes desert. Very poor entertainment. They had no approval from the fire department to send the lanterns up and it was 7PM at this point.... which was the time the event was support to end... . Way too many people for such little amount of things (bathroom, food) Thankfully my boyfriend and I left early. We had to move trees out if the way just to leave our parking spot due to being boxed in so we were very upset with having to pay $30 for parking. The only reason this getting 2 stars is because of the beautiful double rainbow. Overall there was no organization at the event.. Will not be attending again.

Amazing once (or twice!) in a lifetime experience…read more Depending on how hot the week is will determine how you will fare before the actual lantern portion begins. If you're able to, bring a tent/shade and blankets for the day. However, once the sun sets it may get chilly. People will be setting off lanterns prematurely but please wait!! It's so much more beautiful when thousands of people are releasing them together You WILL be sneezing out sand the next day, but it will have been worth it! Pro tip: bring your own toilet paper!!
