Recommend finding food and a spot to sit earlier in the evening--lines for food are crazy near and after sunset. Expect to stand in line for 15+ minutes. Concert opener and headliners were pretty good considering technical difficulties. Employees were stationed at all trash receptors to ensure trash, food and recycling were allocated into the correct bins--that was neat to see! I hadn't ever experienced that.

I wasn't looking for a guided trip, I just needed a rod/reel and some waders. Minturn Anglers was the place for me. I basically told them I was completely new to mountain fly fishing and to set me up as if they were going out that day. And for around $100 I had everything I needed for a day of fishing. They had all sorts of equipment and thousands of flies to choose from as well as a knowledgeable staff who knew what was working at any given time. If you're staying anywhere in the Vail Valley and you want to go fishing, you'll want to go to Minturn Anglers.

Truly a wonderful experience all around. Our guide was Norm Raffleson and he taught me how to fly…read morefish. I didn't know what to expect, but excuse the expression, I'm hooked. I caught some good sized fishies too. 22" Rainbow and a 20" brown...and one got away because of operator error. But overall, this was a perfect spot, fabulous instruction and a great new sport to embrace. Norm taught me how to tie a knot, showed me what bait to use and got me wading in about 3' of water. Me and my brother-in-law flew up from Florida and had one day to open to fish. So we came in to…read moretheir store paid half down and scheduled a trip for the following day. We came back in the morning of our trip, bought our licenses and waited for the guide. While waiting we heard the clerk calling the guide to find out why he wasn't there yet, but he had no clue he was supposed to work so no trip. The clerk said the owner "John" forgot to schedule a guide. Guess what John didn't forget to do? He remembered to charge me for the other half of the trip that same morning. The clerk said he didn't know how to refund our money so we'd have to wait for the owner who he couldn't reach on the phone. I wish this was the end of the story. I called my CC company when we returned only to find out they only refunded me half the cost of the trip. I called the fly shop several times leaving messages over the next week and a half, but they never called me back or emailed me about the mix up or my refund. Finally they refunded the other half of the trip, but not the cost of our licenses, which we never got to use. I hire guides often on trips so I'll say this to my fellow fishing travelers: Avoid this shop! Mistakes happen, but how I was treated after the problem shows the real character of this place and the ownership. Are you listening Orvis? Is this who you want representing you?
