This was my first time coming to this restaurant. We didn't realize is was The night of Valentine's Day but we were still seated quickly! Our food took a while to show up BUT our server, Matthew was amazing! He made sure we got our appetizers and bread to hold us off until our main entrees showed. He very friendly and personable, even with all of the chaos going on. Once we got our food we were very pleased. It tasted AMAZING and the steaks were cooked exactly how we had requested. First time here and it has a comfortable feel and reminds me of Texas Roadhouse.The staff is friendly and helpful and service was great. They are a family friendly establishment and they do serve alcohol. The menu is large and there is bound to be something for everyone, the rolls are melt in your mouth delicious and plentiful. I had the Coltons Chicken and it was a wonderful choice, juicy chicken breast smothered with mushrooms, bacon and cheese and a side of smashed potatoes.Definitely worth a visit !! read more

We've come here a few times now, and every time we've come here the service has been great, the restaurant has been clean and the food has been wonderful. My family stopped here after visiting my dad at the cemetery. I'm not even sure where to start. The hostess was a nervous wreck at 2pm. Acted like she'd never done this in her life but she didn't have anyone tailing her like she was new, so I assume she wasn't. Our waitress was the best part of the experience. She was attentive, all while dealing with a table with an elderly couple who seemed to be giving her a VERY hard time. She was great. The food was eh. Okra was tossed in a small amount of batter which was made of approximately 85% SALT. It was so salty I, my mother, sister and husband couldn't eat it. I'm pregnant and didn't want to overload my system with THAT much salt. It immediately made your mouth dry. The chicken was overcooked and ALSO salted with the same amount of salt the okra had! Not palatable. The mashed potatoes were just fine as were the rolls, though they were a little dry. Not too bad though. Overall the best thing about this experience was our waitress, so you got that right. Sad overall. read more

We are passing through on our way to Kansas and stopped overnight in west plains and decided to try Colton's. It is very reminiscent of one of our favorite now gone restaurant, Logan's. The food and restaurant were just fantastic. Our server, Megan was great! She was extremely attentive, never let my sweet tea get low and constantly checking on us without being overbearing. We really liked our appetizer which was the queso dip. For my entree, I had the New York strip steak, it was a little fatty but still very good, the smashed potatoes was just yummy and the corn cobs were very good. It was all hot and never really seemed to cool down which was great! My partner had a salad with steak tips and he said it was very good. The ambience of the restaurant was nice and cozy, I loved looking at all the decor and it was clean and kept up. I wish we had a Colton's back home. read more

This was to be a special Easter Lunch! Got there at 11:30 am, not completely packed yet. Sat right away. Took a few minutes to get water and we ordered out food. 1/2 hour later we got our rolls then 1/2 hr later we got our salad. Then maybe 45 minutes we received our meal. My wife ordered sirloin steak tips which were terrible! My full order of ribs were horrible to eat with all the fat! I brought more than a 1/2 rack home and had to through away.., fat. I don't know who the cook was but they should be held accountable for serving this terrible meal! We have had good racks there before but I guess that haste becomes waist! Please if you know your going to be busy then be ready for it! Truly fast food would have been better than what we were served. read more

After traveling for hours without many choices on 63, we came to West Plains and decided to stop at Coltons. We were not disappointed. The staff was friendly, the food came fast and hot. We had two pastas, the Del Rio steak with shrimp, and cheesy fries. The best cheesy fries we've ever had anywhere! Steak was cooked perfect and pasta was fantastic. Something for everyone. Took the wife to Colton's for a nice steak dinner this evening, ordered an onion blossom and fried pickles which were good. My wife ordered the New York strip and i ordered the 16 oz ribeye. Both steaks were literally about 70% fat! Im not sure who does quality control but they are lacking in experience! I think the best thing for me and/or anyone else to do is buy and grill our own steaks. I wont be going to Colton's west plains again for a long long time! Decorated as an Old West Town, it was quite attractive as you walk in. Our party of 5 was seated very quickly and served by a fairly attentive wait staff. The country music in the background was not quite loud enough to be enjoyed, but too loud for normal conversation without raising your voice. The free bucket of roasted in the shell peanuts helped pass the time while waiting for our food. Decent Beef and Pork. One in our party ordered a Rib-eye and was delivered what looked more like a Sirloin. After a short visit with the manager, it was replaced. The Oriental Salad was a basic house salad (Iceberg Lettuce, Cheese, and Tomatoes) with a few Mandarin Orange sections, a few Sliced Almonds, and some crumbled Grilled Salmon, that was horribly over cooked. Based on previous experience elsewhere, I suspect that is a mid-west thing and not so much a fault of the restaurant. While part of our meal was graciously comped as a result of our concerns raised with management, the total for our meal (before adjustments) was rather high and I truly do not feel as I got the value for the money spent. Went to dine here on a Sunday afternoon. The place wasn't very busy but there were a lot of people waiting to be seated at tables for some reason. After about 20 minutes, one from our party asked the hostess why we couldn't be seated in one of the many empty tables. He was told that section was closed. We were finally seated after a 30 minute wait. I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken with a caesar salad. The salads we all ordered were swimming in dressing, inedible. Our food sat in the pass for 10 minutes before being delivered to the table so of course the entrees were cold. There was nothing "Santa Fe" about this chicken. It was a grilled chicken breast covered in tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and congealed cheddar cheese. I've never dined at a Colton's but have seen the billboards for years and was always curious. This was a low rent steak house, I for sure won't be returning. My husband says it was the most horrific and unpleasant experience in his life. His steak was ordered medium rare but it was rare and cold. The fat wasn't rendered whatsoever. read more

I just visited the West Plains, Mo. Colton's..The food was good, but my issue is when I asked for a veteran's discount they said of course. I was insulted to find out that the discount was only 1 dollar on a 40 dollar bill. That was very insulting and disrespective to me. Came here with friends and family for dinner and enjoyed the company. The location is convenient, the service was average, food was typical of a local restaurant. Generally when you get seated at this location your hostess or server brings you a bucket of peanuts and rolls. After we ordered our beverages we asked for the peanuts. I will also add if you order an alcoholic beverage be prepared to wait awhile for it. Not sure why but we did. As was the case with the appetizer., again not sure why. We all ordered rib eye steaks and everyone's steaks were not prepared as ordered. I'm not sure if we will be back anytime soon. read more

This is my favorite place to eat at when I am in West Plains! Today when I came through they had a free petting zoo as well as kids eat free after 4 on Sunday's! In town for business and this place was recommended by another person in our business. Atmosphere was good. Always enjoy the peanuts in the shell on the table so you can munch while waiting on the real food. There seemed to be a utensil shortage on this slow week night. Our salads sat in front of us for a while before we got a napkin and fork. I noticed over the course of the evening that two of the waitress had friends or family dining....and they were distracted by visiting with them for long periods of time and neglected their tables. The Loaded Baked Potato soup was white gravy, with a few chunks of potato, and a little topping of cheese & onion. Yuck! I had one bit and stopped. The waitress noticed that I didn't eat it and offered to bring the French onion soup, but did not offer to take anything off the bill. She admitted that the base is gravy. Who wants to eat gravy with a spoon? The peanuts and rolls were essentially my meal tonight. The steak ordered by my spouse was good. The baked potato was not good enough to finish. We would probably eat here again after going through the rounds of places in this little town. But I wouldn't repeat otherwise. read more

On a recent visit: -It's noisy, which means wait staff should not stand at the head of the table and expect customers to shout their orders from the other end. - Silverware should be on the table when people are seated, not delivered after the appetizer is served. - Not related to service, but that horrid potato "soup" made from gravy should be shoved up someone's *ss at corporate. There aren't a lot of choices in West Plains, but there's no point in not delivering a better customer experience. The staff would probably get better tips. read more
