I attended both because my dad was an alum as well as for the fact that they offered me a full academic scholarship, and I have no regrets. Even if I had actually paid to go there I would have very few complaints. The course offerings were plentiful in my departments (double major in Psychology and Liberal Studies) and they offered an Honors Program which allowed me to take some very interesting courses as well as experience social and volunteer activities. I had some excellent professors here (particularly in the English and History departments). I attended both the Schaumburg and Chicago campuses, but was mainly based at Schaumburg. I also worked for the student activities office and was a member of several organizations- student government in particular, so I was able to experience all aspects of student life at RU, even though I was a communter student. I also made many friends here who I keep in contact with to this day. I made the most of my experience by taking full advantage of what the professors had to teach me as well as by getting involved, and from 2002-2005, RU was my second home. My four years at Roosevelt were a wonderful time in my life, one that I will never forget and very often wish I could return to (the real world kinda sucks).

Administrative and bureaucratic processes are slow to respond when students need support, yet communication becomes very frequent when something is required from you. There was also a cybersecurity incident during my time at the university, and I felt the institutional response did not adequately address the impact on students whose information was affected. In addition, policy enforcement appears inconsistent across departments, which adds to the lack of clarity in day-to-day processes. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this institution.

The tour also visited the R. Crown Building designed by famous architect and former professor Mies van der Rohe. The R. Crown Building is a unique structure with an H-style architectural beam design which provides a wide open space for students in architecture to learn. Bright light, thoughtful ventilation system, interior blocking of the street level in the drafting table area so that the students would not be "distracted" by the outside activity. A sculpted bust of Mr. Rohe is located immediately upon entering the building to the left. Interesting fact is that the "i ball" was held in 1959 and Duke Ellington was hired to perform for the students and their guests! McCormick Student Center is a unique structure in that it was designed in which the Chicago L runs right through a tube in the building..you can hear the train! Wide open spaces inside which are functional for students including a store, cafeteria, and study areas complete with a 3D printer!!!

I wasn't requesting any type of funding since my VA education benefits cover my tuition. My goal was simple: to enroll and continue my education. Out of nowhere, I received an email from a professor at 8 a.m., stating I needed to respond by 11 a.m. the same day regarding a potential RA position. Unfortunately, I didn't see the message in time and missed that last-minute deadline. Despite this, the professor mentioned he was still interested in hiring me and encouraged me to reach back out in August for the Fall term. Here's what doesn't make sense: because I missed a same-day response window for a funding opportunity I didn't even request, my entire application for Spring admission was declined and I was told to reapply in the Fall. As a veteran using my earned benefits, this feels completely unfair. I wasn't asking for a handout or financial assistance just the opportunity to pursue my education. If I had known their admissions process worked like this, I would've chosen another school months ago. Veterans deserve better.

Overall, I enjoyed my time…read morewith the courses I've taken and my professors in my department, but this school needs to be more organized. First, the financial aid department is a nightmare. Everybody who has attended this school has had issues with the department during their time in NLU. They will not send your Reward Letter. Until classes have already started, which can be an issue for some people since they might not be able to afford the pocket cost for the Quater, and if you can't pay it, you cannot register for classes for the next Quater. When I was attending this school, I had a terrible advisor. She was the advisor for the transfer students. She was trying to enroll me in courses I didn't need to take, and she almost made me go another year of school, taking unnecessary courses when I only needed to take two more classes to graduate during my last semester of school. Also, halfway through my time at NLU, I discovered they still need to check my transcript for my last semester at the other college I attended. When I told them, and they did check my transcript, I didn't even need to take the course I was taking during the semester, and I couldn't drop the class since it was after midterms, and you couldn't get a refund for the course. Also, they tried to make me take GEN ED courses that I had already taken in my Community College. After I told my advisor about it, she finally made it as a transfer credit. IF YOU ARE A TRANSFER STUDENT, MAKE SURE THEY CHECK ALL OF YOUR CLASSES FROM YOUR PREVIOUS COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY. Because if you don't, these guys might not check, and you might be taking more courses that you shouldn't be taking. The good thing about the advising department is that you can go to other advisors for help if your advisor isn't available or wants somebody else to check. There is one great advisor who helped me out in the end and made sure that I could graduate. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time attending NLU despite taking classes online. The professors are great, and some have helped me grow. Many would have guest speakers come in, and many would help you get a job after obtaining your degree or getting an internship. But I wouldn't recommend going to this school if you have other options, I suggest you go elsewhere. The school's promises sound good on paper, but the execution is terrible. Very disorganized is the best way to describe this school.

The location is the best part. On the way to school from the train station you walk by so many large financial institutions. If you're going for finance or accounting this is an awesome school that will prepare you for a career. Some of the professors are ultra liberal and they try to shoved down their ideology on the students. But most of the business program professors are awesome. This is a great school to commute to and also to transfer from community college. They do a great job of getting you equipped for the real world of full-time employment. If I had a chance to do college all over again I would choose DePaul in a heartbeat.
