Have only been here for one term, but so far it seems pretty standard. I'll probably be updating my review after a few more classes.

    Are you open today?

Hi Stephanie! Today is Monday, Nov. 26, and National Louis University had a late start today due to the heavy snowstorm in Chicago. Tomorrow we anticipate normal hours. Thanks for asking and we apologize for the late reply.

The tour also visited the R. Crown Building designed by famous architect and former professor Mies van der Rohe. The R. Crown Building is a unique structure with an H-style architectural beam design which provides a wide open space for students in architecture to learn. Bright light, thoughtful ventilation system, interior blocking of the street level in the drafting table area so that the students would not be "distracted" by the outside activity. A sculpted bust of Mr. Rohe is located immediately upon entering the building to the left. Interesting fact is that the "i ball" was held in 1959 and Duke Ellington was hired to perform for the students and their guests! McCormick Student Center is a unique structure in that it was designed in which the Chicago L runs right through a tube in the building..you can hear the train! Wide open spaces inside which are functional for students including a store, cafeteria, and study areas complete with a 3D printer!!!

Crown Hall is one of the world-renowned buildings and has been commemorated on postage stamps. The new kid on the block is the brash bright orange McCormick Tribune Campus Center by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. It is a shocking contrast to the Miesian grid of the campus, but it is a breath of fresh air. If you are in the neighborhood to see a White Sox game, check out IIT too.

I have met some amazing people from this school and have had an array of professors, some who have changed my learning and life for the best and others who have given me ceaseless nightmares. I'll give a tiny rundown on UIC, although if you are seriously searching for colleges, I hope you consider looking beyond Yelp for pros/cons. Strengths: It's somewhat affordable. Have a great gym, wide array of student services including campus care, events, therapy, and a student center. Usually can get in touch with someone after multiple emails. Well known by employers. Accessible and proximate to downtown. They have a library. Building new dorms/updating some of the buildings. Weaknesses: Parking is very difficult unless you buy the monthly pass. Some of the buildings are outdated, although they are trying to update these. Some of the advisors are not so helpful. Side note: I did not review my specific program as this listing is for the campus/school itself.

I wasn't requesting any type of funding since my VA education benefits cover my tuition. My goal was simple: to enroll and continue my education. Out of nowhere, I received an email from a professor at 8 a.m., stating I needed to respond by 11 a.m. the same day regarding a potential RA position. Unfortunately, I didn't see the message in time and missed that last-minute deadline. Despite this, the professor mentioned he was still interested in hiring me and encouraged me to reach back out in August for the Fall term. Here's what doesn't make sense: because I missed a same-day response window for a funding opportunity I didn't even request, my entire application for Spring admission was declined and I was told to reapply in the Fall. As a veteran using my earned benefits, this feels completely unfair. I wasn't asking for a handout or financial assistance just the opportunity to pursue my education. If I had known their admissions process worked like this, I would've chosen another school months ago. Veterans deserve better.

A very rich environment, very supportive educators, and education in one of the best cities in the US. When I went to my first class, I had a cold and was struggling a bit. A female janitor saw me and gave me a hug! She said she's like the grandma of the science building and if I need anything, I can reach out to her. There are homeless around the Lincoln Park campus too (near the Fullerton station), but they are the sweetest. They just love talking to students and enjoying the environment. I felt so welcomed and blessed. I love this school so much and highly recommend going here!!! Graduated class of 2020 and loved DePaul so much, I decided to study for my master's here and now I'm excelling more than ever!

The location is the best part. On the way to school from the train station you walk by so many large financial institutions. If you're going for finance or accounting this is an awesome school that will prepare you for a career. Some of the professors are ultra liberal and they try to shoved down their ideology on the students. But most of the business program professors are awesome. This is a great school to commute to and also to transfer from community college. They do a great job of getting you equipped for the real world of full-time employment. If I had a chance to do college all over again I would choose DePaul in a heartbeat.

I chose to attend Harold Washington College solely because of its location, diverse student body…read moreand because of it being listed as one of our "military friendly" colleges in the Chicago and Chicagoland area. The campus itself is beautiful, located in the heart of the Chicago, and an easy commute via CTA train with CTA State/ Lake being the closest train stop to the campus. Other than a few mental health, psychology, child development and social service classes I took mostly my prerequisites at this campus, such as english, reading, math, art, and speech. My program, Addictions Studies transferred to Kennedy King College in 2017, but since I took a majority of my classes at Harold Washington College, it ended up being my 'projected graduation college'. Thinking about it as I share this review, I am happy I took the classes pertaining to my major at Kennedy King College and my prerequisites at Harold Washington College because teaching styles and class sizes were different where Harold Washington College, the classes were a tad larger, and Kennedy King College, the classes were smaller and more intimate. I have had a mixture of good and not so good professors, but for the most part a majority have been good with teaching styles that vary. With that, if you have a good adviser, or know current students they can steer you away from choosing that not so good professor. I also recommend utilizing website 'Rate My Professor', while choosing your classes or once you have chosen them because it will prepare you for what to expect, but do not expect an easy ride. And I highly recommend utilizing tutoring if you need extra assistance other than from your professor. The Veteran Services Center at this campus is amazing and by far the best out of all City Colleges of Chicago. Well informative of scholarships, job fairs, veteran events, and also makes sure my paperwork is up to date prior to the start of the semester. I have never had any issues with my Post 911 GI Bill or IVG (Illinois Veterans Grant) being submitted in a timely manner. The center is located on the second floor and has an area where veterans can do their homework other than in the library or computer lab. As a military veteran, I always feel as though I can let loose being around fellow servicemen & servicewomen. As for administration, I have looked at some of the old reviews and yes! I agree with some, but I have had more positive experiences than bad. And I'am sure that it is no different on any other college campus, so prepare yourself beforehand. As like many other college campuses, you can easily identify the post-high school students by the way they act and because most hang out in groups. The campus used to have a cafeteria in the basement which is now a lounge area for students where video gamers and musicians unite. With the absence of the cafeteria, there are an ample amount of restaurants within the area for students to grab food or snacks prior to or in-between classes. A few of my favorites were Billy Goat Tavern & Grill, 7 Eleven, Chick-fil-A, Protein Bar, Subway and Jason's Deli. The campus was everything I wanted in a college campus and truly the setting standard I look for as I search for a transfer college. From its diverse student body to it being a military friendly college there are few colleges like it with an easy commute to-and-from. Thomas G
