How is the Psychology program in Harold Washington?

I enjoyed the psychology classes I've taken. It gets deeper, and slightly tougher the higher you go, but well worth it. If I weren't focused on pursuing a mental health degree, I may have switched to a psych major due to having great professors.…

A very rich environment, very supportive educators, and education in one of the best cities in the US. When I went to my first class, I had a cold and was struggling a bit. A female janitor saw me and gave me a hug! She said she's like the grandma of the science building and if I need anything, I can reach out to her. There are homeless around the Lincoln Park campus too (near the Fullerton station), but they are the sweetest. They just love talking to students and enjoying the environment. I felt so welcomed and blessed. I love this school so much and highly recommend going here!!! Graduated class of 2020 and loved DePaul so much, I decided to study for my master's here and now I'm excelling more than ever!

The location is the best part. On the way to school from the train station you walk by so many large financial institutions. If you're going for finance or accounting this is an awesome school that will prepare you for a career. Some of the professors are ultra liberal and they try to shoved down their ideology on the students. But most of the business program professors are awesome. This is a great school to commute to and also to transfer from community college. They do a great job of getting you equipped for the real world of full-time employment. If I had a chance to do college all over again I would choose DePaul in a heartbeat.

do not recommend Midwestern Career College in downtown Chicago…read more Based on my experience, this school seemed to care far more about collecting money than supporting its students. I felt misled about the school's accreditation. We were told the school was accredited, but later discovered information that raised serious concerns about its accreditation status. One of my classmates also had a loan taken out in her name without her knowledge, and she later received repeated calls about payments. Watching that happen was alarming. I also noticed that financial aid funds were deducted automatically, and at times it seemed like more money was taken than expected. The administration, including the financial aid office and the deans, left me feeling like students came second to tuition and loan payments. Instead of feeling supported, I felt like we were treated as sources of revenue. If you're considering this school, I strongly encourage you to do extensive research, verify the accreditation yourself, and ask detailed questions about financial aid and student loans before enrolling. In my opinion, I would not recommend Midwestern Career College to anyone. My experience was extremely disappointing, and I wish I had chosen a different schoo

The tuition is…read morereally high considering the quality of education and their rankings just dropped, by a lot. During my 1L year, I had 4 good professors and 2 of them have since left DePaul (I haven't even started my 2L year yet!). On the financial side, they don't budge on scholarships throughout your time there, so even though I ended up in the top quarter of my class, my scholarship is staying the same, while people I know at the bottom half of my class also have the same scholarships for the entire three years, but their scholarships are more than twice what mine is because they got lucky during admission. ...so much for merit. Additionally, DePaul forced us to do something called "Pyramid Points" (yes, I'm serious, this IS law school), which required us to go to various, almost totally pointless, programs that discussed our careers/networking/etc. The problem with Pyramid Points isn't only that they're largely worthless yet time-consuming, it's also that we weren't told that they were mandatory to register for 2L classes until we had already started school! This is turning into a rant so I will stop now, but if you're considering DePaul, I recommend you seriously reconsider a few times before you make your decision.

Because it's a private school there are more scholarships available. I received the $6,000 a year scholarship for transfer because I came in from a community college with a GPA above 3.0. I worked hard for my grades and applied for as many scholarships I could before attending Columbia. PLAN PLAN PLAN. It's on you because no one else will take care of you. Welcome to being a responsible adult in a world where competition is very high, and you will need to work harder than ever to gain and retain creative jobs. I feel it's very upsetting when students decide to rate this school strictly on price. Our economy is wrong in the first place because an education shouldn't cost this much, but that's not Columbia's fault. Contact your representatives if it upsets you. Every single teacher has been life changing for me and absolutely amazing. Each teacher I have worked with has contributed to my learning and development experience in wonderful ways. Every teacher at Columbia is a professional with amazing "in the field" experience. Many of my teachers are actively working right now in the roles I would someday aspire to also hold. So.... DON'T shoot yourself in the foot with these people because they will most likely play a role in hiring you (it's a small world in the creative field). To gain an education from people like this will cost money. Every working class in my line of study (musical theater) has been like a Rep and Master class= Real work with real experience. Columbia is a great school with tons of student activities. I am set to graduate in May 2017. I took advantage of student meet ups, attending student groups, free food, free concerts and shows, discounts at local restaurants, free gym access, discount tickets, free yoga, and discounts at local yoga studios. I NEED to take advantage of the career center and build a portfolio (I hope to do this in my final semester). But there are so many organizations for students and fun activities. Get involved and get your money's worth because yes it is expensive but Columbia is not the most expensive school by far. With a good solid plan you can make it more affordable. I am a single student that had ZERO help from mom and dad or any family. I was 100% on my own. I knew I couldn't afford Columbia for 4 years so I went to a community college first and worked with the councilor taking transferable classes to meet gen-ed requirements. This is how I made my education more affordable. I worked hard for a high GPA and gained referrals so I could take advantage of scholarships. I only share my story because I read a lot of negative feedback strictly rated around cost. Financial services and the scholarship departments need to become your best friends.
