This is a large rest area just south of a Gainesville on I-75, with lots of parking for both cars and trucks. The location is very "southern" and pretty; big shady oak trees with lots of hanging Spanish moss. There are dozens of big covered picnic tables, not too close together, each one is like a little pavilion. Some are reserved for handicapped guests. The bathrooms were huge, with multiple entrances. (I assume this is so they can clean 1/2 at a time & still keep the other 1/2 open.). The facilities were clean, with plenty of soap and working air dryers. They also had baby changing tables and a family bathroom. There was a good assortment of vending machines, all pretty well stocked. There are paths that you can walk through; but unfortunately none of the paths took you into the Payne's Prairie Preserve. There was a chain link fence separating rest area from Mother Nature, but we walked up to the fence & could see multiple gators swimming in the water retention area beyond the fence and we saw one cute little alligator, about 3.5-4 feet long just chilling during the beautiful fall day. (He was separated by the fence, and there are many "No Trespassing" signs posted all around, along with warnings about venomous snakes.). I'm glad to know there are safe rest stops along I-75; and this is definitely a nice place to rest, eat, or walk around.

One cool thing this rest area has in the back is a solar panel farm and they have an observation deck. The gate was closed when I was there, but I still could see it. There is plenty of parking and it is well laid out. There are also plenty of pavilions to sit under to enjoy a meal or just chill. I am impressed with the new layout of this rest area and would recommend that you stop here if you are on Interstate 10 and need a break from the road. Plus, you can see a solar panel farm while you are here. Overall, I will give it five stars.

But it offered exactly what I needed at that moment--clean facilities, a decent energy boost, and a sense that someone actually cared about keeping the place welcoming. Well, this time I stopped and was glad I did. First, the bathroom facilities (in a separate building from the welcoming center) were clean, spacious, and air conditioned. Then, when I went into the welcome center I was greeted by a gentleman who was serving free cups of orange juice or grapefruit juice (your choice). I chose orange juice. It was ice cold and sweet - one of the best orange juices I've ever had! The welcoming center was also clean and spacious and has a ton of brochures on the various activities and tourist attractions here in Florida. So, if you're visiting for the first time, this will be a good stop for you. Outside, there's plenty of parking spots including a separate area for semi's and those pulling travel trailers. There's plenty of shade trees and picnic tables so if you want to buy something from their food or drink machines you can enjoy them outside while taking a few minutes break out of the busy race track known as I-75 ha! (Not kidding). It was a great stop and I recommend you stop and check this place out. At the very least, you'll love the free orange juice. Welcome to Florida :)
