I absolutely love the Columbia Street Mercantile for both myself and my daughter. Their prices are reasonable and the clothes that they sell are top quality. I have gone there right before a LSU game to get a dress and because of health issues needed help from the owner. She helped to find the perfect outfit to fit my body and look good, which isn't always an easy task since I am so short and have stomach issues. She accomplished this wonderfully. I brought my daughter there for her graduation dress and we ended up buying three dresses because the prices were so reasonable and they were so helpful. Attractive women's clothing store in downtown Covington. It has lots of Tom brand shoes and & fun sports team themed shirts/dresses. Definitely a spot to browse through if you're in the area. The staff was hit or miss with one snooty salesperson and another who made up for it by being super nice. read more

As much as this pains to share because I *used* to love this store. Today, while shopping with my sister, we ran into our cousins and I had left my sister to stay and chat with our cousins and ran across the street to their partner store to try some clothes on. My 2 girl cousins were trying on swim suits for their upcoming spring break trip, and when I returned (not even 15 mins later) their faces looked distraught and I heard some of the conversation between them and the store personnel. (Which would NOT have happened if I had stayed over there... given these girls are in high school) my cousins are 1/2 American, 1/2 Filipino, and so they don't look American or "white". The store personnel counted their items as they went into the dressing room (she--which afterwards I had HEARD her say "counted 7 items") they WALKED OUT THE DRESSING ROOM WITH 7 ITEMS!!!! But because there was an extra hanger (that had nothing to do with the girls) they weee instantly accused of shoplifting. These girls are pillars of their high school, on competitive dance teams outside of school, straight A students. But sadly because the color of their skin, and lack of adults around to defend them were accused of racial bias and discrimination. Shame on you Columbia street mercantile. I was a proud consumer of your inventory and now you've lost my business and respect. I overheard you tell the girls "well I'm just going to have to check the surveillance footage" ... and I overheard you say that to your boss/and or co worker WHICH I ALSO SAW YOU DO AT THE COUNTER. And then I overheard the other girl saying it could just be a hanger that was left in there. So congratulations, you made these beautiful, innocent girls experience prejudice and racism and profiling because of the color of their skin. Keep in mind, they had athletic shorts on, and t-shirts that were not loose and so there is NO WHERE TO PLACE A SWIM SUIT underneath!!!! And even after ALL of this, one of my cousins even bought a swim suit from you guys. Also, after the fact, while annoyed, my sister tried something on with me in the dressing room (another issue the person in question had "two girls should not be in the dressing room together" because my sister and I are 'white' you had NO problem letting us go in. Didn't even count the # of items we brought it and then had NO problem with us afterwards when exiting the dressing room. I am UTTERLY disappointed and if allowed (the girls told me not to make a scene) I would have said something. Because I PROMISE you, if I was present during the whole ordeal... she would not have attacked my cousins. Shame on you. I am disgusted at your lack of humanity. To racistly call out these two young girls when you COUNTED the items they took from the dressing room and they matched the items they brought in with them. Shame on you. I have lost disrespect and you have lost a customer. I am so utterly disappointed and disgusted. read more

messaged them on Instagram inquiring about a homecoming dress for my granddaughter. they asked size & after I gave info and a couple days they said they were out of stock. when I asked why inquire about size when they were already out of stock, they sent a very snippy and unprofessional response. now... I'm blocked from seeing their Instagram. awwww NOT. now you just don't get my money, daughter's money or granddaughter's money. anyone who asks me will be told don't bother shopping here. overpriced items and rude employees. planned to go into this store because I had a giftcard. everything is cute and I loved it, but if you are a size large or over 155 pounds the clothes are impossible to find and they need more options. I did find a couple essentials that were reasonable price but, skirts jeans and anything in between they don't carry XL. Stuff you can find in any boutique but cheaply made. enjoyed the time there tho. read more
