I visited Com Cuore during my December 2024 trip to Porto after hearing about a 100% gluten-free cafe, and I was certainly excited to check this place out, it is located a short walk away from São Bento railway station, although it is rather well-hidden, I ended up having to go up a set of steps from where Apple Maps told me the location was to find it - I do think having some sort of sign on the main street could help people find this place and help increase footfall for sure. They do operate on a cash-only model, which is a big negative for me, they direct people to use a nearby ATM. I usually refuse to pay cash, but after making an effort to find this place and spending some time, I decided to bite the bullet. It was unfortunate that they were cash only as this meant I spent less than I would have done if they had card payments - Come on, who doesn't take cards in 2024? The interior is small and fairly cramped, and the door did seem to lock, it didn't feel too welcoming with people struggling to get inside while I was eating my food. The menu was impressive and extensive, and most of it was priced reasonably, I ended up going for a sandwich which had ham, German sausage and cheese - The value was certainly really good, however. I also ordered some fries however, I never received them. I was not charged for them, so it is likely my waiter wasn't paying attention when taking my order. I noticed how the menu also mentioned a charge for cutlery - which seemed bizarre, and I'd love some clarification on this - surely they can't charge you for something to eat your food within a sit-down cafe? I found my sandwich to be quite dry. While the meats were decent, though not exceptional in quality, they would just slide off the bread, which was strange considering how dry the sandwich itself was. 3* - The prices are affordable, and the gluten-free options are extensive. However, the overall food quality is just okay. Combined with issues like the atmosphere inside the cafe and the fact that it's cash-only, I wouldn't be in a hurry to return if I visit Porto again. Was very happy to come across this place in my trip research as it was the only place I was able to find a gluten free pastel de nata during my trip to Portugal, and was really wanting to try one. I was also grateful for the extensive gluten free options on the menu as a celiac traveler, but was disappointed in the service, atmosphere, and general quality of the food upon my visits. Definitely not somewhere to go when you're in a rush/on your way anywhere timed as well! Wide range of gluten free options that are simple and tasty. However, their service is rude; they are stingy charging for tea if you just want hot water (on a cold rainy day), don't let you drink your own water, and the main cashier communicates all of this in a condescending way. I am sure dealing with tourists they encounter a lot of entitlement but I've always been polite and don't appreciate the condescension. read more

Why would a restaurant be cash-only if they are trying to be ethical about tax payments etc? It does not make any sense. I really did not like this place. The service was not friendly and the ambience is not inspired... I had been looking for a spot to try some traditional Portuguese food on a recent trip to Portugal and was so lucky to find Com Cuore. Com Cuore is centrally located in the main, downtown part of Porto and isn't far from the train station. We went inside and the super nice woman working had us grab menus and head outside to their cute patio area. We ordered a few lattes as well as a chocolate croissant, a hazelnut crepe and a hot dog francesinha...ALL gluten-free. We tried to order a few empanadas but unfortunately they were out for the day. Service was quick, even though it didn't seem like there were a lot of people working. We really enjoyed all of our food, especially the delicious sweets! This has been my go-to spot for gluten-free dining while in Porto. It is a family-run establishment and everyone is incredibly friendly. Com Cuore even has gf pastéis de nata! I've been hooked on the bifana sandwich and pastéis de nata, but they also offer crepes, waffles and other delicious gf foods. This was an amazing meal. I had a vegetarian sandwich, a pastel de nata and a savory pastel. I also had a beer. It made me giddy. I had tried a gf pastel de nata in Lisboa, but it was pretty terrible. This one made me understand what the rumpus was about! It is a little hard to find. When I was researching for my trip to Porto, I saw all of these delicious pastries like pastel de nata. However, I despaired of getting to eat any and relegated myself to munching on slices of bread in my rented flat. That's what made discovering this place so awesome! It's a little confusing to find because it's not on the Main Street but down a side street in a courtyard. However, there's signs that point toward it from the main drag. The entire cafe/bakery is gluten free or sim gluten so no worries of cross contamination. They have sweet natas and savory tarts. They have cake, sandwiches, and breakfast items. I tried the pastel de nata, the mushroom tart, the bean tart, the croissant, the hot dog sandwich and the steak sandwich. The pastel de natas were really good! Obviously I haven't had a non gluten free one but these were really good! The mushroom tart was really good! Nice and savory. I liked the bean tart but it wasn't my favorite. The hot dog sandwich was really good and so was the steak. It might have been my hunger talking from not being able to eat much in general there, but I really like it! Service was very nice and the lady who owns the cafe was super helpful and friendly! She even gave us directions to and a recommendation for a good gluten free place to eat dinner. So if you're coming to Porto and you smell those wonderful pastries but feel you'll never be able to eat any of them, never fear! There's a place for people like you and me. And this place is it.
