    Gluten-Free chocolate croissant
    Ally S.

Highlights/Lowlights 1. Fully Gluten-Free Cafe! 2. Convenient Location 3. Opportunity to try traditional Francesinha, but gluten free! I had been looking for a spot to try some traditional Portuguese food on a recent trip to Portugal and was so lucky to find Com Cuore. Com Cuore is centrally located in the main, downtown part of Porto and isn't far from the train station. We went inside and the super nice woman working had us grab menus and head outside to their cute patio area. We ordered a few lattes as well as a chocolate croissant, a hazelnut crepe and a hot dog francesinha...ALL gluten-free. We tried to order a few empanadas but unfortunately they were out for the day. Service was quick, even though it didn't seem like there were a lot of people working. We really enjoyed all of our food, especially the delicious sweets! I could have eaten the Nutella crepe everyday! Highly recommend for anyone who needs gluten-free food in Porto!

When I was researching for my trip to Porto, I saw all of these delicious pastries like pastel de nata.

I know, I know...ANOTHER pastry shop in Portugal, but we couldn't help ourselves…read more While on the tour we stopped in this lovely little pastry shop - AMÊNDOA TORRADA - and tried the Clarinha de Fão - essentially fried dough that was stuffed with a sweet pumpkin marmalade (not pumpkin pie filling, but really pumpkin or some kind of squash) and it was remarkably delicious. Our guide was pleased that we tried something 'different' because she said most people just go with something 'safe'.

Padaria Ribeiro is a bakery/café with origins from 1878. Same as some of the other reviews…read morementioned, I came here because Rick Steves guidebook included this shop in his walking tour. Looking from the window outside, I spotted familiar savory pastries. I suspected correctly that they would be served room temperature direct from the display case. (They don't offer warming serves of prepared pastries.) At the counter, the cashier spoke perfect English. I asked her about favorites of savory pastries. We bought pastries of beef, chicken, 2x shrimps (her favorite), and 2x cod fish (traditional Portuguese recipe). For the why-not of it, we also got a full-size pastel de nata and a mini size. These are packed in takeaway package trays and paper wrapped. To avoid the crowds at the outside tables, we walked to a plaza around the corner and enjoyed them while people watching and looking at the octagonal 4 lions fountain called Fonte dos Leões. Perhaps because we are familiar with these types of pastries, we find the flavors subtly enjoyable. They don't have big chunks of beef or chicken or shrimps inside (American style). They contain finely chopped and well-seasoned fillings inside a potato pastry shell or a flaky pastry shell (for the beef). The potato pastry shell is less common in the US (except maybe Porto in Los Angeles area). In any case, we enjoyed our food overall and thought the prices are reasonable. These would be 5 stars if they warmed them up.
