Edited to add: Dr. David Earnest is no longer part of the practice, so all the good reviews he got no longer apply to the current practice. The hygienists are nice, but the overall practice seems corrupt and not concerned about the best interests of patients. First, they tell you need (unnecessary) additional treatments that are not covered by insurance (if they were necessary, they would be covered). In five decades of dental care, I have never had "necessary" treatment suggested that was not covered by insurance. Second, while your insurance coverage includes an exam by an actual dentist, you'll probably never get that exam unless they think they can convince you that you need some expensive treatment (likely not covered by insurance). I went 3-5 times and never met an actual dentist much less had an exam by one. Again, in over five decades I never had a hygiene appointment where the dentist did not stop in and do an exam. Third, they have no issue physically harming you while telling you the action is required. In my case, their X-Ray process resulted in severe bruising to the roof of my mouth as well as an over-extended jaw injury that prevented me from being able to eat solid food for a full week (I have a small mouth including a low roof). I complained bitterly about this awful experience but, they (office staff, who said she was talking to medical staff), insisted they couldn't keep seeing me unless I underwent that same X-Ray experience again. This office staff person literally lied to me on the phone, saying children use the adult sized X-Ray plates with no problem, while the hygienist previously told me they use a non-invasive external imaging for kids, and they could do that with me as well. All of my previous dental offices had not issue accommodating my needs. So much so I didn't even realize it was a big issue until I came to Comal Dental. I'm never going back to this awful and negligent practice. read more

First time calling. The receptionist on the phone was the worst. She was very bothered and condescending trying to be intimating towards me. Such a Karen. I even will say she was pretending to not hear me. I have one the best insurances and will be taken it somewhere else. read more

Dr. Haag, He is genuine! He truly cares and wants only the best for his patients. My husband is mortified of dentist and had to be seen for an emergency. Dr. Haag was so amazing, my husband has been back for more visits!! Which says a lot about Dr. Haag. Dr. Haags bedside manner, his staff and the atmosphere in the office makes you feel at home. While some practices are only out for the $$$$, Dr. Haag gives you multiple options and he lets YOU choose, and there's no pressure. I have seen many dentists over the past 60 years and I found that Dr. Aaron Haag and his team are the best I have encountered including in Germany and several states within our fine country. On a scale of 1-10 I rate them as 10+ (ten plus). I think I can put it best by mentioning my reaction upon completion of the treatment. I burst into spontaneous applause. I am a first time customer at Comal Dental and had a bad experience for the following reasons: 1) I asked on the phone before booking my appointment, to make sure they do oral surgeries such as wisdom teeth removal since that was my primary reason for a visit. I was promptly told they did, turns out there's more to that story and in my case they had to refer me to another oral surgeon. Sure would have been nice to know this chance existed at all when I specifically asked before booking my appointment. 2) I went in and got my teeth x rayed by a hygienist and got less than 180 seconds with an actual dentist, who simply told me I should have my wisdom teeth removed and in my situation he can't do it and then bolted right out. Really didn't tell me anything I didn't already know and I have yet to receive the promised x rays in my inbox (it hasn't been 24 hours to be fair). 3) I was unable to get an oral exam and a teeth cleaning in the same appointment, even though I have heard through friends that other places do that. This is probably not a major negative since my evidence is anecdotal. In conclusion, I would have appreciated if they were more upfront about not being able to handle certain oral surgeries when I inquired about that over the phone. Furthermore, no matter how busy the dentist's schedule might be, every customer is a paying and equal customer. Every customer in theory, should atleast get greater than 180 seconds with a dentist to ask questions and be provided a more in depth and educated explanation about a dentist's suggestion (such as wisdom teeth removal). My rating is based off their customer service. Called to make a new patient appointment, was put on hold for 10 minutes before I just hung up. Called back and was told the soonest appointment wasn't until November. I don't appreciate not even getting simple 'just one more minute,' or 'can we give you a call back?' while waiting on hold. Dr. David Earnest is the most awesome dentist anyone in new braunfels could ask for ! He is very patient, caring, and understanding ! I first met Dr. E last year when I had a horrible tooth ache and wondered why ! David Met me at 4 to evaluate and pulled my tooth the same day with Trena and I got laughing gas ! Dr Earnest and his staff are great, from the first call to the crown being placed. I hate that they received a 1 star rating based on one phone call, because the day I called I got in within a week. They were extremely accommodating to me being a new patient that moved here from out of town and needed work finished from another dentist. Beware!!!!!!!! Their front office staff lacks the professional and good customer service we expect from any business in New Braunfels. Their billing department refused to bill my insurance without a verbal confirmation. So when I was laid off and cobra kicked in they still refused to bill "WageWorks" (the company that handles Cobra's billing) without a verbal confirmation, even though I had documentation showing our coverage. I had to file a complaint to the TSBDE | Texas Dental Board because they reported it on my credit even though they did not complete nor finish the services. The sad thing is I don't think Dr.Earnest (Who's a good Dentist) has a clue that his staff is losing business because they lack the accounting and billing experience needed to adequately work in an office. read more
