Not ideal for getting to the water with a lot of items, it was quite the hike and down steep rocks. Kids needed assistance. Not sure if all areas are like this but the area we went to was. When you get to the water very rocky, no soft place to sit or lounge on a towel. I recommend bringing chairs to sit on. Water was very choppy due to all the jet skis and boats. read more

Be careful with all the rules! We saw a staff officer walking around on Friday morning. He was staring at us (we are Asians and we brought our dogs). Luckily, I had read their rules and other comments, so we were very careful and kept our dogs on leash even when they were in the water, lol. The officer seemed very disappointed and walked away. However, he issued fines to at least two groups of families (minors) for some reason -- these two groups didn't bother anyone... But their trips were ruined and I felt sorry for them..( both of them stopped playing music after getting the tickets) We are from Austin, so we don't quite get their reasoning. I would recommend the park give a warning before issuing any tickets... It's $20 per vehicle per day with no re-entry. The park is dog-friendly (dogs must be on leash). The water on the bluff side was super clean, but it's quite dangerous to get down due to the low water level (especially with dogs on leash, but we managed, yay!). The other side (beach side) is very muddy and dirty... garbage everywhere.. It was quite busy on Saturday morning; the long line outside the park started forming around 10 am. We arrived around 9 am, so there wasn't a line. read more

Took the kids for the first time. It was so beautiful and amazing views my girls never been to a lake and swim so this was amazing experience! We did pay $20 to get in and we did leave with some cuts on our feet walking in to the water. That's bec the mud would stick to our shoes and we couldn't walk with our water shoes so we took them off. We we'll be checking out more of Canyon Lake. To be honest it's really not as dirty as everybody's making it seem the bathroom. Yeah need some work, but when we were leaving around seven, they were cleaning up. read more

I don't understand all the bad reviews, I've been to this lake twice & surprisingly never had a bad experience with the lady in the booth by the entrance lol. Also, I do agree on the other reviews about the restrooms (but I also blame nasty humans for it) I can only imagine how they have their own restroom at home LOL the fee did go up which is a bummer but still affordable. I can't believe we've never tried driving here. Green mountains rolled before are eyes for a climactic arrival to the park, such a beautiful relaxing ride. This lake has so much potential for a great resort/park vacacional touristy place... if only...they'd fix the bathrooms! It's not even summer yet and already before arriving to the parks bathrooms they were swarming with a million mosquitoes! Will spray with OFF next time! We paid $10 to get in and there are people cleaning out the grills. It was very nice to see they care about taking care of their lake. The shore is a mix of sand, rock, branches and even mud depending on where you get in. There is plenty of space for social distancing except some people completely miss it! After it looked like the park was packed around 3pm we noticed an over flowing amount of garbage coming out of the containers. Like they had no control over it...and no option for recycling so your out of luck trying to control the overflow of garbage. We saw plenty of boats, rafts and all kinds of water skiing and kayaking that families can enjoy on the lake. It's a great place to spend the day with family and friends to get out of the house, relax and smell the clean air! Don't forget to bring your sunscreen, plenty of water to drink, bathing suits and BBQ stuff, BBQ pits are nice and clean! They have spread out picnic tables so you can sit and enjoy the day. Some tables come shaded under trees, some under tin roofs and some are not. Bring an umbrella or tent if you get one without shade. We had so much fun, we are planning to go back with more family and friends! read more

With the $20 entrance fee, the only restroom is out of service, there is no other restroom in the entire place. Also no trash pick-up service with this fees. Dogs are doing their business here and there, and no disposal service. Really horrible place. Every time the owner/management changes, it increase the fees and service is getting less. read more

Couldn't even get into the park at 10am because it was full. Cops close off the entrance and make everyone turn around. I suggest you show up at 5 am for the best chance of getting in. read more

So... I'm from Hawai'i, and my best friend (who used to be from Hawai'i) decided this HAD to be one of those "have to do" things in Texas. I can't say no, I'm staying with her. So, me, her and her boyfriend went and got snacks, items for lunch and they got some refreshments which included a lot of alcohol. We drove around and got lost in the neighborhood. "Aren't you guys from Texas???!" It was super sketchy! We got here and trekked down from the lot with all our coolers and towels. Phew. The area was packed, as it was summer time. We jump in. The water can be deep. It's very warm. And it's murky. But rest assure, I didn't see anything. I was timid at first because in Hawaii, sharks don't come on land lol. Gators? They got legs! Spent the whole day frolicking in the water. It was alright experience. Being from Hawaii I'm definitely spoiled by our beaches and beach park but I can see why families come out here to kick back and relax. This is a great park for family, group of friends, or just to get away. You can swim, BBQ, there's a play area for kids and you can watch the speed boats go by. There is a fee but only $4 bucks, so worth it. The view is so amazing, it doesn't feel like San Antonio is 20 miles away. It kind of feels like you're far away from Spain or Greek Islands. read more

The beach is nice and the water was clean. The playground has a cover for sun and weather. However the bathrooms were out of order. There were only portable toilets. I expected better facilities due to the $20 entrance fees. So next time I visit the area I will go elsewhere. read more

This is a nice park with a good swimming hole there's one side that has rock cliffs and the other side is more like a beach pets are welcome on a leash barbecue pits under the trees picnic tables and lots of friendly people around. read more

Such a beautiful area and could be a great spot. HOWEVER, the park Host is downright one of the rudest people I have ever met. This was our first trip to this park, will likely never return. Since this was our first time to the park I asked a few reasonable questions at the gate such as do you have a park map, where to park, swimming area, etc. she rudely told me "WE HAVE SIGNS, read them!" My friends were behind me and the lady then spoke to them rudely and said something about the guy that just left (me) and that "what, he can't read a SIGN!" My wife entered the park about 1 hour later and I didn't even tell her anything about the lady at the gate, she came and told me that the lady was rude to her as well. Lady, if you don't like people, this probably is NOT the job for you. Comal Park, you need a new park host. Multiple reviews state that this park host is rude and the grounds are trashy. Second, the park has NO trash cans, not even in the bathrooms. There are only central dumpsters. Therefore trash was everywhere, and we were probably the third car to arrive for the day and trash was already everywhere. Trash accumulated the restrooms including used toilet paper and feminine hygiene products on the floor. Trash was at almost every picnic table. I understand that people should clean up after themselves, but to you would expect that someone is getting paid to clean up these parks as well. This place was NASTY. The park host was NASTY! The bathrooms were NASTY! It could be An amazing park. Maybe charge a little more for guests so you can hire some competent and nice folks. read more

We visited the swim beach at Comal Park after reading reviews for multiple swim areas at Canyon Lake and being conflicted with the wild variation in reviews. So I'm here to tell you objectively how our experience was. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle. The paved parking is easy to find and plentiful. Those who gave 1-star ratings appear to be basing that on the following facts: the water level is very low right now so it is accurate that the walk from the parking lot to the water line is pretty far. There are also several things like old barrels that were previously underwater but now exposed, so it does make the area look questionable. The water in the swim area is murky, again because the water level is low and you're stirring up mud walking out. This isn't a white sand beach with clear blue waters. It's a standard lake beach in my opinion. The water level contributes to a few eye sores and slight inconveniences but it was close to our rental and fine for an afternoon swim. read more

Unfortunately this park is not well kept. The trash everywhere is awful and the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. We went to several different bathrooms and porta potties trying to find somewhere that I could use the restroom. All of the bathrooms were covered in pee, feces, food, diapers, etc. I've never seen anything like it. Canyon Lake is beautiful, but we will never return to this park. read more

This is a beautiful park! Definitely returning in the near future and worth sharing with friends. However, the park personnel need to severely step up their restroom maintenance. We know people are the ones to blame for dirty restrooms but, in the six hours we spent at the park swimming and enjoying Canyon Lake, not once did we see personnel swing by to clean the restrooms or to empty the super full trash bins. Restrooms had fecal matter on the floor, toilet paper on the floor and the smell complimented the chaos. Other than that, the park is beautiful. read more

I am absolutely upset at the people in the front of the entrance. They are rude and heartless!! On August 23 @ 12pm my son was fussy and needed his milk. As a new time mother I rushed out the house with out it and realized that I only had one bottle with milk. So, I went to the front and begged the lady in the front to let me go get milk at the corner store. My 3month baby was crying in my arms and still like that she denied it. I also told her that I was going to show her a receipt and her heartless self said to pack all my stuff and leave with my crying baby. I am conditionally hurt that a lady can see my baby crying on top of his lungs for his milk and the lady still said no... this is upsetting and mind y'all I drove 3 1/2 to come unpack and then have to leave because of one simple milk that I could've gotten from the corner store for my crying son. read more

I understand covid is apparently an issue everywhere in all parks and not at walmart BUT when i drive 4 hours to visit because based on their site its open only for it to be closed due to capacity then try to find a place to turn around while we tried turning around the first time i asked the first lady why the access was closed as i was not aware yet and i said is it over capacity is this why and she said well yeah freaking rude and the only place to turn around was the boat ramp only to be stopped again by the absolute rudest constable i have ever come across is completely uncalled for. He very rudely asked us what business we have coming to the park and cocked an attitude for absolutely no reason we were just trying to turn around. The lake was nice. We found a nice area to have a picnic and cook out. The water is very nice and the temp is great to spend the day at. The only reason we give them such a low rating is the guy monitoring the lake, I dont know if hes a park ranger or what but the sign clearly says at the entrance that the park closes at sunset. We started packing up when he came by with his warning. He yells and plays his sirens to give u the warning stating he wants us out at 8 pm. At 8 pm we were already packing up and started pulling out of the parking lot at 8:06 when he came behind us with his sirens blaring and steps out of his vehicle to either video tape or take pictures. If you look up the sunset time the day we were there it was 8:38, so at the time he tried to "catch" us being there late, he is wrong. So if the park wants people out by 8 then they need to change their signs at the entrance! With other people complaining about the same guy, then maybe there is something wrong?! The park needs to look into their personnel! read more

I camped at Canyon Lake as a child and don't remember it being like this. The lady running the booth didn't seem very happy that we were even there. Did she run out of menthol's?....I'm not sure. I asked for a map and she seemed to think it was a joke. Once I drove through the park I understood why. There are basically 3 area's of the park......very small. The beaches are a bit rocky which is to be expected since it's in the hill country. I was shocked by the trash and bathrooms. The water was very warm in the shallows and murky. Not what I was expecting. Canyon Lake itself is a beautiful, cool, clear body of water but you don't get to see that from this park and it's beaches. Go to Pale Face Park on Lake Travis would be my suggestion. It's a haul from San Antonio but well worth the drive. read more

This had the potential to be a great trip however...When we got there, there was an extremely long line to get in. When you get up to the front, they ONLY take cash or check. And cash is only 10's or 5's. So we had to drive to the gas station to use the ATM and then turn around and ask the cashier to break the $20. Go back, the whole park was PACKED. The "swim beach" was ridiculous. You would NEVER be able to find parking. So we went back towards where we came in and that wasn't too bad. We were excited at this point because the lake was so beautiful. However, WEAR WATER SHOES!!! Nobody has mentioned this is any review. The "sticks" or whatever they're called are extremely painful and everywhere! they were so bad it was not even enjoyable. The area was extremely muddy and you couldn't even walk in the so called shore. We had to wear our flip flops in order to actually enjoy the water. I lost one of my $40 flip flops due to the extreme mud. I also had to carry our dog into the water because she was hurting her paws so bad and she was getting stuck in the mud.. Needless to say we will only be going back if we have water shoes. read more
