This review is for the swimming hole - an awesome swimming spot just an hour away from Austin! Number one tip is to make sure you have reservations ahead of time on the website. You will want to show up a little bit ahead of time because people will be lining up to get in once the reservation time opens and you don't want to waste your reservation time just waiting in line. Service was kinda off-putting, the lady was not very friendly and she also wasn't very clear about the wristbands and whether or not all of us needed them or if just the kids needed them. Other than that, the place itself was very nice and other staff walking around were very nice too. They did round everyone up around 5pm because of lightning storms within 10 mile distance so they have to clear the area and hold for 30 mins before they can allow you back, but luckily we were pretty much ready to leave anyway. Our reservation specifically included a picnic table so we had a designated spot with our name reserved just near the swimming hole. The nice part about reservations means that the place doesn't get super crowded. The kids really liked the swing but even just floating around was really nice. The water itself is mostly shaded by large trees so you aren't burning in the sun. Definitely recommend bringing food and drinks to enjoy a picnic out here, since they had one vending machine nearby. The bathrooms were super clean and not terribly far from the water itself so that was super convenient, as well as nice changing rooms! We visited during the 2-6pm time slot and now I understand why reservations are required. The place is smaller than I expected, but that actually makes it feel more peaceful and less crowded. Everything was very organized and the staff did a great job keeping things running smoothly. The water was great a bit cold but clear and so refreshing on a hot day. We also had a lot of fun using the rope swing! Just sharing a few tips: large umbrellas aren't allowed, but you can bring a small one, and you'll probably want it if it's sunny. There are some reserved spots available but they're very limited and book up fast. If you don't have one, make sure to arrive early because most spots are first come, first served. You could bring your own food and drinks but alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Overall, such a fun place to spend a few hours and cool off. Definitely worth the visit! read more

Wow what a magical place! We live in Hill Country about 30min fm Austin and this little gem is about 27min away from us in the cute little hill country town of Wimberly. Its summer in TX. Its HOT. It's sticky. What's better than doom scrolling in your house when its 97 degrees out and 70%+ humidity in July.... This place! Plan ahead.. you can only get tickets online. Its VERY reasonable. They have timed entrance for am or afternoon. 9am or 2pm. We've been both times and both haven't been over crowded. Great for ALL ages. Toddlers with swim vests and an adult to folks like my mom who's almost 80. Cost for 1/2 swim: 12.00 adults (13yrs +) 8.00 over 60yrs 8.00 12yrs and under 8.00 military 20.00 to rent a picnic table 20.00 for 1 umbrella in the grassy area. Bring chairs Pack a sandwich Bring a blanket so you can put it down on the dirt/grass area. Being a cooler with softdrinks Bring a volleyball. Pool noodles are also great Just make sure to throw your trash away!! Mother nature thanks you. Enjoy the beautiful nature Snap a couple of IG photos (the water color early in the morning and later in the afternoon make you look like a professional photographer. You can bring small floaties so you can hang under the shade while you're swimming around. The entire swim area is covered in shade. The park area has shade on the perimeter of the park and sunny in the middle. It's a paved walk way from the parking lot to the water hole. The parking lot is compressed gravel so sedans can easily access the parking area from the road. There's no current. No need for water shoes.. the bottom in the shallow area has small pebble like bottom. The water temp was refreshing. Perfect temp for July. Water quality is so clear! Theres 4 different areas to go into the water.. Low entry where once you are in you can stand.. Mid entry where you're about waste deep when you walk in. 2 deeper areas with a ladder, and cool chain swings. This will definitely be on our rotation for the summer. You have to make reservations ahead of time, so it's not something you can do last minute. Restrooms were clean and well maintained. Lockers and changing areas provided. I would recommend water shoes, it can get slippery getting in and out. We did not have a floatation device and bought one from the front desk. The price wasn't bad and we used it all week. Otherwise you can stand the entire time, it was definitely more relaxing having a floatie. I would bring your own floatie and lunch. We had fun, it was very pretty area to swim and the water was refreshing on a hot day. read more

My wife and I have been on a national, state and local park kick for a while now and after years of hearing about Blue Hole, we finally decided to come and see what she's all about. I would like to say first, the landscape and scenery is wonderful. Located right off of the cypress creek this is a wonderful spot to take your family and friends (with a reservation) and enjoy the day. While in town and looking for something to do, I heard about Blue Hole Regional Park, and decided to make a reservation for a swim time on a Friday morning. Our reservation was between 9 AM and 1 PM. My husband and I went and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the swimming hole. The entire place was so serene and beautiful, and the water was crisp and refreshing. They do offer additional items for purchase when you book your reservation, such as lawn umbrellas and picnic table reservations. We just took our towels, and after swimming, soaked in the sun on the lawn. There are bathrooms there to change and use the restroom. We had no issues with parking and I would gladly come back the next time I'm in town. read more

It was our first time and it fun but their reservations get sold out so quickly, we had to wait a MONTH to finally get a time slot that was available. I think it would be a bit better with less people. Water became a bit crowded especially in the shallow area. Kids running around everywhere, and some of them don't understand personal space as they run all over peoples belongings or so close to you that they might as well run into you. The park and water itself is gorgeous though.... If you want a bit of seclusion, I recommend going into the deep end. But if you don't wanna just be wading there until your legs give out, def bring a floatie of some kind. read more

A great way to cool off on a hot summer day in the 100+ degree Texas weather. I had booked a June reservation for 2-6pm back in March when the online system was open. It was easy to book especially well in advance. The entire swimming area is shaded by trees which makes you forget about the scorching heat under the direct sun. The water is spring-fed, a little cold, but super refreshing. There are two rope swings you can use to jump into the water. There are a few entry points into the water from the sitting areas. Some of the sitting area is also covered by shade, others brought canopies. There are a few parking lots, the farthest lot is a bit of a walk ~10 minutes, especially while carrying your items, so I'd suggest getting there early to secure a closer spot. You receive wristbands for your reservation at the front entrance, but I'm not sure how well this is enforced since I saw different colored wristbands (perhaps for the earlier group). I'd choose the earlier time slot next time, as it might be less crowded. read more

The water here is so blue and so clear. I thought the pictures I had seen would be deceptive but they're not. This place is so beautiful in person. It's interesting though because the left side is more darker/ muddy looking but the longer we walked down towards the right side, the more blue the water seemed. We couldn't swim right now, for good reason, but I definitely want to come back to go swimming here. It's picturesque and so serene. Blue Hole is the first swimming hole I've been to, and it did not disappoint! I made a reservation a month in advance. It was $12 per person for 9am-1pm, which was a perfect amount of time. The grassy sitting area is clearly not maintained very well, and you have to reserve a table in advance, but it wasn't a big deal as we spent most of our time in the water. There were a lot of kids in the shallow end, and the swimming area was much smaller than I expected, but we had the deep end mostly to ourselves, which was really nice. It was spacious enough to swim laps. I would guess it was around 15 feet deep, and the rope swings were fun as well. I really enjoyed exploring the depths of Blue Hole. read more

My boyfriend and I were redirected to Blue Hole after unsuccessfully trying to go for a walk-in hike at Jacob's Well. We didn't have high expectations but were pleasantly surprised by the amount of activity and scenery we found after we got out of the car. Reservations are required for swimming, and we went back in the middle of summer so the place was packed with people picnicking, chilling in tents, and children swinging into the water. We walked a couple of the trails which pass behind the main street. They were well-maintained with tall trees offering plenty of shade from the Texas summer sun. One of the trails led into a clearing with a totem pole which we crossed to get to the main street, and once we were done strolling through the town we came back and saw some turtles swimming in the water. If it's feasible, I'd recommend making a reservation to swim here, but bear in mind to expect a good number of children. Go for a mini hike along the trails, the walk isn't long or difficult. read more

We came here after visiting Jacob's Well as it's not far away. It was a nice rainy day so the park was pretty empty which is nice when taking photographs. Swimming is not allowed during this season and in regular time there are a few to do it. The water is a deep blue-green and very clear. There are some trees that people can swing from to jump in the water. There is a pathway you can walk around the park. There is a grass patch and some picnic tables made out of stone. It's not a large park but it was a nice walk. Parking though looks like it could fill up fast on a busy day. Be aware. read more

I hadn't been to Blue Hole since 2013 and, wow, it has changed. The water is no longer clear and blue and the grass is mostly gone from so many people trampling it. It used to be so beautiful! On a separate note, it would be really nice if there were rules about sunscreen because the entire place reeked of sunscreen. I wonder if it's affected the water at all. I know in some beautiful natural swimming spots they have rules in place about sunscreen so as not to damage the marine life. I'll sadly probably not be returning to Blue Hole, but I do have fond memories. read more

An outstanding time in the heat of summer! you have to come see this place. its great to just sit and relax in the water or swim from side to side OR take the adventurous route and Swing and Dive if you want. The water is COLD so be ready to shiver in greatness. please DO NOT pee in this place, its very obvious if you do cause around you the water is warm and cloudy. Its obvious really! The south side is about 2 feet deep or so. the North seems to be about 13-15 feet deep. There are FISH and turtles but they won't bother you if you don't bother them. Be mindful of the spiders on the trees, don't get too close to those trees if spiders scare you. This was the highlight of our vacation this summer. Hands down, the PM is best time to be here. you will enjoy it. you can reserve for 4 hrs slots but they don't really RUSH you out. NO Alcohol allowed inside the park. Food is and you can have a really cool picnic in the common area. read more

Very congested. Probably very dirty. There are no bathrooms nearby so you can imagine where people relieve themselves. It has no facility for anybody incapacitated. I was looking for a pleasant afternoon, but it said it's a madhouse. Kids jumping into the water swinging from a rope. There are no lifeguards. Not at as a pictured on their website. I'm top of that. It's bordered by another property with no trespassing signs all over. If you're looking for peace and quiet on a pleasant afternoon, go somewhere else. read more

Nice swimming hole with trees and rope swings in Wimberly. It's very pretty and scenic, a little more relaxing than the crowds at Barton Springs during the summer. It does get closed off occasionally for private functions, so check before you go. Wimberly also has some cool places to visit when you're done here. read more

Great swimming hole with cold clear water plus the extra benefit for multiple swings off the trees. Loved that there was even hooks to catch the swingna on the way back. The cypress trees are gorgeous and provide great shade from the hot sun, even though this monday we went was cool. Would definitely recommend you bring a picnic, floaties for the water, and chairs to lay out in the nearby grass area. Monday was not busy so since its a bit smaller I would go weekdays to avoid crowds since it was great to have more space in the grass and water. The reservation online system was super easy to use, and I kept it in my apple wallet and just made tickets a breeze. Wristbands are then given out after. The bathroom facilities were new and clean, with changing rooms but should mention no shower. There's even a bluff overlook to see the creek, blue hole water for an even better view, as well as hiking trails all maintained well with pink granite. read more

Visited several swimming spots in Texas, and this was my favorite! We almost didn't go because the non-resident price was a lot of several people, but I'm glad we went. I can't wait to go back! Make reservations online in advance. You get a 4 hour time slot when you visit. Check in was easy. Bring some drinks and snacks in a cooler! Water shoes are also recommended. It's quiet and secluded from outside noise- very relaxing. Lots of trees to shade the water or sit under in the grass, so you won't cook while you're out here. The water is clear and cool, but not too cold. It was clean of any trash when we visited. There are a couple of swings to use to fly out into the water- 1 better for kids and 1 for adults. Great place to float in peace without floating away from your spot. You can also reach the bottom in most places. They have workers monitoring visitors for ridiculous behavior, so behave! read more
