I came here for the first time for the Hitchcock Expo, which was truly amazing. It was so well done, incredibly well-organized, and I thought it was a great value for the price. I came here a few weeks later for a showing of The Shining with a live band and that was a really crazy unique experience as well. I'd never been to a movie showing with a live band before and it was so intense, especially in a movie like The Shining. I recommend the MIS to everyone. Check out their website and see what special events are happening and make sure you go to at least one of them! There was a little market in the front courtyard of the museum when I went for The Shining and they were selling lots of artesanal foods and crafts. Eu amo esse museu! The food and drink menus are a bit limited, but they have all the classic drinks (their Old Fashioned is about the closest you can get to a Sazerac in São Paulo), and the food options range from things to snack on to pastas and grilled meat dishes. The acoustics are decent, and seem to improve as the band warms up. In my opinion, it's a venue all live music fans have to go to, and it's great to see the downtown scene rising from the ashes.

On the first floor you'll find poems, graffiti, and political slogans that may go over your head if you are not familiar with Portuguese (or another Romance language). Going up again takes you to the biggest floor which expounds on the origins and influences of modern Brasilian Portuguese along with some light insights into the history of Brasil. It's on the smaller side but if you read every poster you could spend more than an hour without even watching their video presentation (included in the ticket price). Cheap and easily accessible, but only worth it if you're into words.
