Finding the entrance was a bit of a challenge, but once we made it inside, it had that classic, intimate comedy room vibe. It's a very small space, so definitely get there early if you want a good seat otherwise, you might be squeezing in wherever you can. What really stood out was the staff. They're comedians too, which made the whole experience feel more personal and fun. Everyone was incredibly kind, accommodating, and genuinely funny. You could tell they cared about creating a great atmosphere. The crowd and lineup were a great mix, which I always appreciate. And the comedians? Not amateurs by any means. The jokes were sharp, well thought out, and actually funny... you're not sitting there forcing laughs. While there was a little bit of blue comedy here and there, it wasn't overdone. It was refreshing to hear more curated, clever material. My best friend just moved to the area, and we've been exploring different spots together. We're really glad we checked this place out and would absolutely come back, just earlier next time for better seats. They do have a full bar, but keep it simple. This isn't the place for craft cocktails, just stick with the basics like a rum and coke or a screwdriver and you'll be good. Overall, we loved the cozy, up-close feel. Every single comic had at least a few laugh out loud jokes, which is not always the case at these small shows The show was upstairs at the Elbo Room on Broadway downtown. A small space with a bar in the back., no bad seats The people at the elbow room might want to take a look at their public address system. It seemed to actually mute the audio - when people didn't use the mic. It was clearer. The comics of Comedy Oakland put on a hilarious show at Calabash restaurant this past weekend, part of the annual Oakland Comedy Festival. Such a treat on a Saturday night! I'm especially a fan of Samson Koletkar (aka indian jewish comedian), an outstanding entertainer that just cracked me up with his relatable jokes about bay area traffic and living. But the other performers weren't bad either... Tanya Sabrina with her funny impressions of interesting characters and bits about dating, the goofiness of Janan Araujo-Siam, even some martial arts moves on stage by Bernice Ye. Stories and humor about veganism, sexuality, and more throughout the evening. The event started 20 minutes later than the listed showtime and ended about 20 minutes late as well, so it was still a good hour and a half of live stand-up to keep the crowd engaged and full of laughter. A great atmosphere to just kick back, snack on some delicious jerk chicken wings, and enjoy the show. read more

This was our first experience with Comedy Oakland. Great experience. 2 hours of fun. My cheeks hurt by the end. Love that it was a small venue, was easy to find parking, they do not require a drink minimum and it is super laid back. The comics are up close, it's easy to feel like you are part of the show. We've attended quite a few Comedy Oakland events, and we've always enjoyed the performances. As locals, we try to support neighborhood businesses whenever we can, and Comedy Oakland never disappoints. Samson Koletkar, whom I hadn't seen before, was absolutely hilarious. Candy Shaw had all the ladies (and men) laughing and won instant approval. It was also my first time at Calabash, and what a pleasant surprise--great food, delightful cocktails, and a wonderful setting for a night of comedy. Husband and I love comedy shows! Found Comedy Oakland on Eventbrite and booked the tickets which were reasonably priced! They don't have drink or food minimums and the venue was unique and beautiful! They have a range from clean to sex jokes and even crowd work all in one show by a variety of talented comedians! What a great way to watch and support live and local comedy. We were looking for a spur of the moment activity and saw this on event Brite and were curious. Tickets for a 1.5 hour comedy show at about $20 each with $2-3 in service fees -- a great deal in my book. Plus there was no drink minimum! Was looking for standup comedy nearby and came across this event. Took me 2 mins online to see that it was housed in a pretty looking venue, and that parking would not be a problem. Tickets were $20 and change, and with a no drink minimum that meant one could (in theory) watch a show for under 25 bucks! The parking lot right next to the venue means you're walking 20 feet to get there. The building itself is so lovely and the bar is small but adequate. I started a tab but was definitely surprised when the bill came. Surprised in a good way because the drinks are so inexpensive, wait, I can't remember the last time I used that word in the Bay Area! Anyhoo, we were seated swiftly and really appreciated the host/organizer Samson telling us the process of getting drinks or food, and pointing the way to the restrooms. The lineup tonight was so so good, starting with Samson who is just naturally funny. At one point in the night I did have tears in my eyes from laughing too much. Good times! We didn't really know what to expect since it was so last minute but when we arrived we were seated pretty quickly and had a good view of the stage. The service was prompt and the drinks were good. They offer a pretty standard appetizer/small bites menu but we skipped on the food. That night there were 4 different comedians and it was half hit and half miss. Some jokes and comedians were hilarious and some comedians had jokes that were likely good at their prime but is now old material. Wanted to go out to a comedy show and I was thoroughly impressed going to this new theater in Oakland. The show I went to see had 3 groups of comedians and they all had impressive improv sets. I was dying in my seat from laughing, and I really needed to laugh, experiencing some holiday blues. The price for the show was only $5 ! Pretty cheap, can't get better than that , though I know they have other shows with slightly higher fees. Probably for more famous comedians in the Bay Area or visiting comedians. The theater itself was very laid back and chill. When you walk in, there is a little lounge to the right, with food and beverages to buy. The theater has comfortable seats in the front with tables that each had a candle. The rest of the seating were regular chairs. I got to sit up front in the comfy seats. Lighting was great. Acoustics was great as well. The bathrooms are very clean and all gender. I've been to other comedy theaters in Oakland and this one is definitely hip and chill, nice and clean. I will definitely make my way back here again for their other shows. They also offer improv classes, which I'm considering as well. read more

We purchased tickets to one of the venues and when we got there there was absolutely no parking whatsoever. We were literally driving around for a good 30 minutes trying to find parking to this venue they have right by apartments. Then finally we give up because at this point we're already late and ended up leaving to reschedule. Then we rescheduled for another weekend. Planned out everything and even got a babysitter for our kids and literally on our way to the show, really last minute like 30 minutes before showtime, they sent an email that said they had to cancel the show because a "power outage" this is absolutely one of the worst experiences I ever experienced. Definitely do not recommend unless you are just trying to waste YOUR TIME. read more

Perfect spot for date night or a gathering of friends. Tickets are available online on their website or on eventbrite or discounted tickets on Goldfarb. They have private tables available for 2 people or a general audience ticket for shared tables, Both good options. It was my first time but apparently they have been doing shows for a while being on the rooftop of a restaurant that recently shut down. They are now in the banquet hall of Washington inn. This is right next to the lounge and bar area where you can order drinks and foods. The comedy club itself has no drink or food minimums thankfully and provide water for all customers. Parking was easily available in front of the Washington inn. We watched an assortment of 6 comedians ranging from local east bay talent or San jose comedians. A good entertaining night for sure with comedy to suit a variety of humor. read more

CONS: staircase and upstairs smelled like old dirty mopping water. Took over 40 minutes to get my cocktail, even after reminding two servers multiple times. Cost of menu items. PROS: Everything else! The food, the show and when I finally received my cocktail were all exceptional! More so than the others, the show. It was original and funny as heck. I went on a competition night (Saturday night, 7p show). 8 comedians battle for 4 mins each in 2 sets of 4. The top 2 of each group is selected by loudest applause. Then the top 4 (2 from each group) battle. The top 2 are chosen by applause again and then those last 2 compete to select a final winner. During the night we were at a stalemate and couldn't decide between two comedians so they had to do a joke-off. Each one could tell one joke under 1 minute. Although my favorite comedian didn't win, I had a great evening and they all did a good job. read more
