We liked this place so much that we checked back in for a second night instead of driving home like we had planned! The rooms were clean and the check-in experience was good and fast. The breakfast was decent and well-stocked with fresh items. We liked the free cookies and popcorn. On our first night, the room we were assigned smelled like cigarette smoke. I don't blame the hotel for that, they can't control everything that guests do and it could have been coming from an adjacent room. Fortunately there was another room they could provide. That second room was pretty good, although the A/C seemed older than everything else in the room. It had that old-style analog temperature control with a knob that says warmer/colder, so it's harder to control the exact temperature. The rooms were pretty quiet. There was a team of college soccer players staying there and we expected to hear them but the noise didn't carry far. When we came back for a second night, we got a room with a modern A/C, which had a digital control. Both times the beds were comfortable and the bedding was in great condition. There were plenty of electrical outlets for our various devices (smartphones, laptops, tablets). The refrigerator was quiet. The ice machine was way out of the way so there was no noise from it in our room. The high ceilings were really nice. The wifi speed was good and the connectivity was solid. The only real complaint we had (and the reason this isn't 5 stars) is that the person tending to the breakfast area talked non-stop about nothing of consequence the entire time we were eating breakfast or in the lobby. We could even hear her from the 2nd floor. That was really disconcerting - we wanted to enjoy a quiet meal but instead had to put up with a company-provided motormouth. read more

My Dad stayed at this hotel while transitioning from selling his home and moving out of state after the loss of my Mom. The front desk required a $250 CASH deposit, that would be returned upon checkout, because he was a local resident. The deposit requirement was not communicated when he initially went in in person to make the reservation. He paid the deposit and no receipt was offered. His mistake was not asking for one. When he checked out he was only given $150 of his deposit back. Obviously, he was very upset. I called and spoke to the "manager" Courtney. She spoke over me the entire time. I informed her that I would be contacting choice hotels corporate regarding this. It seems there is an issue with theft at this location. PLEASE choose another hotel if you value your possessions!! read more

Had stayed in the past and always returned , this time was the last . The other customers were part of a sports group for children. We checked in at 3 and by 6 is when the noise began! We overlooked it as it was early ! BUT by 830 it blew up into running and screaming in the halls !A attempt to resolve it via the room phone failed as the phone did not allow any calls ! A trip down to the desk resulted in the desk clerk on the phone with other customers with the same complaint! A request for a refund as we planned on leaving and ending our stay was denied ! I understand that employees are obligated to make money for their company but to ignore a obvious problem is not very fair ! I've been to hotels that have removed unruly customers ! I won't be going to Comfort suites in Mattoon again ! read more

Nice staffing and a clean hotel. Everything in my room was well clean and nicely presented. I stayed here during work training and it was a great experience. Pretty quiet as well. I think we all wish things were back to normal with real breakfast BUT they've adapted well. read more

I attended a wedding a few days ago in your area. A scant few hours before the ceremony the bride-to-be was called and notified that she and her soon-to-be husband would not be allowed to stay in the Comfort Suites because they live within 30 miles of the hotel. ONLY because they live within 30 miles of the hotel. They are in their 60's. Not rambunctious, rude, undisciplined individuals who would destroy property. They wanted to spend their WEDDING NIGHT away from their home and this establishment ALMOST ruined it. However, I live in another state. So I booked the room and gave them the key. I will NEVER stay in this establishment. I WILL be posting on Yelp this stupid rule that punishes everyone for what, I'm assuming, some very nasty people did. What would happen if someone's house burned down or there was an emergent need for local rooms? Well I guess we know one hotel, Comfort Suites, that would not assist. Do not stay here! Extremely rude people! But I sort of understand, some Pakistani people have a difficult time socializing. The lady who checked me in was super condescending and treated me like a second-class person. This used to be a Comfort Inn and was a great place to stay, reasonably priced and super clean and friendly staff. It is now a Quality Inn. They need to take the word quality off their sign! Way too expensive for what you get. Although Illinois requires face masks there wasn't a mask to be seen on any of the employees. The man who checked me out was very slovenly dressed with food and food stains on his shirt! Disgusting! Would give 0 - Stars if I could. No wonder the parking lot is empty. Customer service at this location is top notch. Had an issue with our room and the front desk took care of it immediately and moved us to another room. There was nothing wrong with the first room. It had only 1 TV and you can get a room with 2 TVs and a dividing wall for the price and my family wanted this room. This hotel is very clean. The pool and hot tub areas were clean and clear. I thought she said this was a new hotel - only a year old. I may have misunderstood but it was clean and nice. The hot breakfast bar was decent too. First day they had biscuits, eggs and sausage. The second day it was bacon, scrambled eggs and biscuits. They also had waffles, bagels, English muffins, pastries, hard boiled eggs, cereals, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, etc. The milk was really cold which is a major plus in my book. We stayed here with a small group of high school students. We checked in pretty late (around 10:30PM). The rooms were large and spacious with plenty of room for students. It was quiet as well. The breakfast was nice and hot and some good and varied choices - waffles, sausage, fruit, biscuits, eggs, breads, cereals, etc. The dining area was average size. The staff was friendly and helpful. This will be our "go to" place for our yearly tournament in this area. read more

We stayed at this hotel on July 2nd and 3rd. My husband and I have bed bug bites all up and down our arms and legs. Its July 13th and they are still itching and bothering us. The hotel said that there was no evidence of bed bugs in our room but we know different!! Stay at your on risk. I just felt like people should know. Will never stay at that hotel again. read more

One of the best hotel experiences I've had in this class of hotel. It's nice, clean, quiet and the staff is simply outstanding. Breakfast was good, they happily gave us a late checkout, and the housekeeper even came down from our third-floor room, tracked us down outside in the cold rain, and handed me a pair of socks I had left in the room. That blew us away. I've stayed in top hotels worldwide and that would never happen. If you are trying to choose between hotels in Mattoon, this is the place. Period! read more

We have stated in this hotel while my daughter was going to EIU many times. It was always a pleasure and pleasant. Unfortunately, in the three years since my daughter's graduation, our current stay was very disappointing. We had planned to use the pool, hot tub, and workout room but their condition was terrible. The water looked dirty in both the pool and tub and smelled bad. The workout room was dirty. The hallway rugs appeared dirty and they too had a smell about them. While there were signs of work being done, we saw no work being done. Upon arrival the desk clerk was not pleasant and upon leaving no one was at the desk or appeared to be in the room off to the side because we called several time to get someone's attention and no one came. Lastly, while the room appeared to be clean and made, the bedding appeared different, not crisp or inviting. Since our EIU experience will begin again, we will be looking for hotels but we will not be looking at the Comfort Suites. I am sadly disappointed. I received an apology letter from the hotel but feel that this needs to be shared. I don't believe an apology cuts it. Poor managing and poor conditions. No future discount offered or any other type settlement. read more

I LOVE Comfort Suites in Mattoon. Every time I've stayed here my stay has been great. The front desk staff is always super friendly, everything is very clean, and the rooms are incredibly spacious. I travel to Charleston for work a couple of times a year and I love staying here every time even though there are other hotels that are closer to my destination. I am so disappointed that I was not able to find a room at my preferred rate for my next trip down here, so I will not be able to stay there when I come back to Charleston at the end of next month. read more
