For over a decade, we've chosen the Quality Inn and Suites in Mattoon for our stays, only skipping it when the hotel changed to offering a continual breakfast. Positives * Friendly and Helpful Staff: Every visit, the staff has been exceptional, always welcoming and willing to assist. * Outstanding Free Breakfast: The breakfast is the best you'll find in town, with sausage patties, eggs, a solid variety of cereals and fruit, both apple and orange juice, and delicious waffles, all included in your stay. * Very Clean: The hotel consistently maintains a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property. * Comfortable Beds: The beds are cozy and provide a good night's sleep every time. Negatives * Rooms Need Updating: Unfortunately, the rooms haven't been renovated in quite some time. There aren't enough electrical outlets or USB ports to meet the needs of two guests with devices like watches, phones, and laptops--and my medical equipment needed a plug as well. * Low Toilet Height: Standard room toilets are only 16" high, which can be tough for people with mobility challenges. While I was switched to a handicap-accessible room, the toilet was still 16" high (though it did have grab bars). According to ADA Standards, toilets should be 17"-19" high, with 19" being ideal. Unfortunately, despite many years of good experience, these issues mean we'll probably look elsewhere for accommodations on our next visit. read more

The night manager was very rude and unprofessional. we got there late at night and we just wanted to get some rest but no, we had to spend $300!! on a suite for one night and if you turned off the AC and barely turned on the heat and it smelt horrible the alarm clock did not work. I Will NOT be staying there again. read more

I got caught up in horrible winter storm so I was happy they had a room. The two people I dealt with at the front desk during my stay could not have been nicer. The room was fine, basic, nothing fancy but clean enough etc. although the pillows are horrible. Breakfast was included but is was pretty sorry. Coffee, water granola bars and some little refrigerated breakfast sandwich which I assume you microwave but I didn't go there. They are dog friendly and was happy to get off the roads and it served its purpose. read more

I left a pair of jeans in my room when I checked out, and when I called an hour later they said that the room was occupied and they didn't find any clothes, they serve spoiled milk, and refuse to service your room short of changing towels, room smelled of mold, stay somewhere else. read more

Very disappointed in the room quality. Have been told the hotel is only a year old and am not sure how that can be. Did the standard bed bug check and so many hairs along the headboard box spring. I decided to lid the mattress and check and found a needle. Was on the company dime so changed rooms at the receptionist request. No needles but found even more hairs. They really need to up the cleaning expectations. It's ok to wash the bed skirt sheet and run a vacuum. read more

Its ok. We had a free room from comfort inn rewards or i would have been really unhappy. We arrived at midnight. A/c was off. So room was hot and stuffy. Hard to fall Asleep. Beds were hard but clean. Looks lile they attempted a remodel. Breakfast was sketchy. Milk machine out of order. So had gallon of milk in fridge. Appeared new by the amount, but seal was broken.. but it was full. Almost like they are refilling it. Gnats around the juice machine. No cups by water. Pool railing broken- but we didn't use pool. Previous reviews said elevator broken- we requested 1st floor in case. Pillows are small like sofa pillows. read more

Every now and then, I have to stay @ a "Quality Inn" just to remind myself why I DON'T STAY @ "QUALITY INNs"!! The people running this place are nice people, but that's all I'll say for 'em. (1) First of all, when I attempted to adjust the heater temperature, the control panel cover fell off on the floor (2) I had ants all over the desk (3) HAD NO WIFI THE ENTIRE TIME!!!!!! This is a deal breaker!!! I don't watch TV, so if I don't have WIFI, I've got nuthin'!! I also conduct a lot of business via the Internet, and if I don't have WIFI, I've gotta spend more money to burn up more phone data just to get some work done! I had made a point of callin' these people before I even showed up to ask 'em if they had WIFI. They said they did.....what they didn't tell me is that it doesn't work! The rooms were clean and spacious and at a great price! The only downfall was the breakfast as it was powdered eggs and soggy potatoes. The waffle machine was not working properly either. The trash can was overflowing and unsightly and not covered either. Paul the maintenance man was very efficient and polite resolving the drain issue in the shower. We would stay there again but def would go elsewhere for breakfast read more

Cheap hotel for a quick stay. Quite disappointed with the cleanliness. For a non-smoking hotel it definitely smelled like smoke inside. The "continental breakfast" was not even a full breakfast, just some muffins and coffee. read more

My stay at the Quality Inn & Suites was necessitated by cost - due to a wrestling competition in Champaign, I couldn't stay anywhere in the area without paying through the nose. I usually don't stay in the Charleston-Mattoon area if I can help it - no fault of the hotels in these towns, there's just not much to do during the winter and there's very little variety in the food/nightlife options available. That said, if you're the kind of person to stay in your hotel from check-in to check-out, the Quality Inn & Suites will do just fine. The room was dim and a bit dreary in terms of decor, but that was my only complaint about the room itself. I had plenty of space and outlets. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Surprisingly, breakfast in the morning was exceptional for a budget hotel. There were fluffy, freshly-made scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, plus the usual oatmeal/hard-boiled eggs/cereal/waffle options. In all, Quality Inn & Suites is an above-average place to rest your head, especially for the price. I just would rather have the dining and nightlife options available in Champaign if I have the choice. read more

This is by far the worst hotel I've ever stayed at... the pillows were too small and half the size of a normal pillow...making it very uncomfortable to sleep...not only that but my friend, who was also staying there at the time, had asked for the late check out which ends at 2... not only did she ask them that night but she asked again the following morning if she had the late checkout and the hotel staff said it was one... she left around 8 in the morning and came back around 11 and they told her that they moved her stuff out of the room already and then called cops on her to have her escorted off... then we come to find out they lied and her stuff was still in the room and they wouldn't let her go back in and get until after arguing with them for a half hour... the only reason I gave them one star was because it won't let me go lower than that... I will NEVER stay there again.... read more

The staff was friendly, breakfast has hot options as well as cold, real nice outdoor pool & rooms. It is a newer hotel & it just was all around great. I did not think there was much to do in a place like Mattoon, IL, but the owners of this place really make this little town a place to go. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and with a small child to keep entertained, the staff was full of ideas of things we can do to have fun. There are lots of amenities in the hotel and the spaces outside the room are really comfortable - a place that I feel totally at ease just sitting back at and interacting with other guests. Also the rooms are super clean - among the cleanest I have seen at any hotel I have stayed at. I am really glad I found this place and will likely plan another trip to Mattoon just to hang out at this hotel that is reasonably priced and is a vacation all on it's own without even leaving the hotel! We are moving across country and needed a place to stop off for the night. Such luck that we randomly chose this Quality Inn! The rooms are clean, the beds incredibly comfortable (we even joked about stealing the mattress), the complimentary breakfast pretty tasty, and they take pets! Not to mention the price is right. Stayed here for approx. ten days after a house fire, we had two rooms. After the first night we switched rooms to a larger suite since we didn't know how long we would be there. After several nights in the new rooms our daughter noticed bumps all over her body and itchiness. A couple days later the school nurse suggested it could be bed bugs. Never having dealt with bed bugs before we advised the manager on duty, Ghia (sp?) who all but blamed us for bringing them to the hotel. Maintenance checked the bed but didn't find any live bugs (there were signs though). The next morning we found LIVE bugs in her bed along with dead ones. At this time we asked to move rooms, the manager on duty (Cathy) had to call the owner and ask. That's right, the manager doesn't even have authority to move a guest to a different room for an issue like this. The end result: the owner refused to move rooms, blamed us for the bed bugs and CHARGED my credit card $1500.00 for exterminating. DO NOT STAY HERE. This is not the first time bed bugs have been an issue here, and won't be the last, I'm sure. Unless you want to deal with disputing a $1500.00 charge on your credit card as well I suggest you find another hotel in the area, there are plenty more, just as nice, much more courteous staff and no bed bugs. read more

This hotel is awesome! I have stayed there multiple times. The staff is so nice and helpful! It is a great little get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is close to boating, hiking and EIU. It is also conveniently located off the highway. The rooms are super nice and super clean! The rooms feel like home with a beautiful modern feel! There is wireless internet which helped me sneak away and do a little work as well. Nice seating/living area in the room with a great flat screen TV. The hotel allowed me little dog to stay which was great and the hotel has a great amount of property to it was nice to be able to walk here there. The breakfast in the morning is great because there is a little bit for everyone......there are hot choices as well as cold items. Whether you have to travel this way for work, visiting EIU, or just want to get away and do some boating and be in nature.....then this is a place you definitely want to stay at ! read more

I stayed at this hotel for about 3 days after a surgery I have had. Let me tell you this one was of the best hotel experiences I have had! The room was beautiful, great beds, the whole kitchen was brand new, there was an outdoor pool, workout facility, and a laundry room. The staff was attentive and very helpful. The free WiFi and flat screen TV was an awesome plus as well. I very much enjoyed my stay here & will gladly refer anyone to stay in this hotel over any in the area! read more

I didn't even get to stay. the staff was rude and very unprofessional. there was a blizzard outside and I was stranded. so I thought I'd rather pay to stay in a nice warm room then try to drive the 2 miles to my house. but I had a difficult time paying. so my brother helped me out letting me use his credit card. due to the blizzard the woman behind the counter told me she would run the card when her system came up. but gave me a room key anyway. after 10 minutes in the room to warm up. she called to tell me the card was declined. after 10 minutes with my brother on the phone trying to explain to her that he had just called the card itself and there was more then enough to pay the charge. she said she would run it one more time. at which point both my brother and I was confused as to why she had already given me a room key if the room was not paid for. at that point the woman behind the counter got very vulgar using some profanity towards me and my brother. she then said she would call the cops and have me removed. all because I was trying to get in from a blizzard. I'm not sure Choice hotels will want to be associated with this chain any longer. read more
