When I walked in I was really surprised that this was a fully stocked Japanese store. The person behind the counter was just so nice and friendly. This store had a bit of everything. It's a small store, but I was truly amazed how everything was organized so neatly. They had so many Japanese snacks, grocery items, frozen item, plus more. If I had more time I would have stayed longer to really look around. I really was so happy to find what I was looking for and their prices are so reasonable. They only accept cash and this is really one of my new favorite store.

Looking in the…read morewindow, I realized it was a cute mom and pop Japanese grocery store and hadn't found one in the area yet (I've now come across another but this was the first!). Upon entering, you notice that it is a pretty small space but they try and make use of as much shelf space as possible storing different snacks, some drinks and other assorted items. There was a small Japanese grocery store in Manhattan that I used to frequent so I couldn't help but compare this store to that one (that one is small too but bigger with more variety) which probably isn't a fair comparison. I'll speak to what they have and what they don't. If you're looking for snacks that are nostalgic, check. If you're looking for basic cooking needs like curry, sauces, kewpie mayo, okonomiyaki sauce, mirin, etc, they've got you covered. They even have a small freezer section with different things. They don't carry sake but have teas and other beverages. They don't have much in the way of fresh produce but they do have things like tofu and other refrigerated items. They also don't carry raw sashimi grade fish or frozen shabu shabu meat. They do have some non food items in the back if you're looking for certain household items. When I asked the staff if they carried certain items, everyone was super nice. Note, they do have a $10 minimum to use a credit card. I'll admit I 100% went in there because I was in the mood for shrimp chips. I was super excited when I found that they had hot garlic which is one of my favorite flavors (Calbee brand) so that was a win! If I'm in a pinch or need things they carry, I'll definitely be back!

It's a specialty food store (cash only) serving up incredible sandwiches, Italian salads, freshly made mozzarella and more. I love the chicken cutlets from here, the antipasto, the mozzarella and tomato salad, the calamari salad. I have still not come across anything I don't like at this place. I've been coming in here since I've lived in Astoria (that's almost 15 years) and every time I visit I find something new to try. Their heroes are delicious - the Italian sub has everything you could want on it, the eggplant parm hero is big enough to feed a small army. Service is friendly even when it's packed. Everyone here is happy to help you. Good food, good vibes.

Sorriso is an Italian deli offering tons of Italian products, specialty meats, homemade mozzarella, sandwiches, snacks, and more! We were in the mood for some delicious Italian subs and came here to satisfy that craving. I got the Italian Turkey Combo but swapped out the Salami & Ham for Roast Beef since I don't eat pork. The turkey and roast beef were sliced fresh onto the bread, the toppings were all super fresh and added so much depth to the sandwich. I will say the bread was a bit hard and didn't seem like it was made fresh that day. The sandwich also could've used some mayo and pickles. I added some mayo when I got home and got a side of pickles which were actually outstanding! They were briny, salty, and crisp. It added a nice texture and flavor the sandwich was lacking. As we were finishing up, the worker stopped by and offered us some complimentary Fresh Mozzarella which melted in my mouth immediately. I would absolutely come back for that and try out their other speciality items. Great try!

There are multiple locations in Queens: 2 in Sunnyside, 1 in Ridgewood, and 1 in Astoria. I wish they'd open a store in Long Island! Friendly and welcoming service; very reasonable prices! A true Gem! Parrot is packed with so many offerings! I can't even begin to name everything they offer but some items are: - Fresh pastries and desserts - Fresh Cheeses & Meats - Butcher Shop with specialty meats - Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: Manti dumplings, sausages, Pierogies, Yogurts, Soups, etc. - Olives Galore - Fresh Coffees, Teas & Spices - International Snacks - Fresh Baked Goods - Nuts, Candies, Cookies, Spreads, Dried Fruits - And MUCH MUCH MORE!! Each aisle is full of surprises, and it's fun just to walk down each and every aisle to see all their items. You just never know what you'll find! But be warned: your basket will be filled very quickly! My two fave items from this market are their Turkish Pide Bread and their ELITE Instant Turkish Coffee. (If you know, you know!). And don't snooze on their butcher section! Highly recommended! I've introduced this market to SOOOO many friends and family! You can thank me later!

Luckily I had a few minutes because the shelves and shelves of beautifully packaged olive oil were calling to me. Maybe some people think evoo is just something you use to cook up some chicken or dress your salad but oil is very important to the success of a dish. The guy working there clearly understood because we started talking about truffle oils and what you can do with them. Plus I give this guy credit for handling a costumer who thought he was clever to "threaten" him if his guests were not impressed with the Portuguese olive oil he picked out for him. I got a set if white truffle infused oil, black truffle infused oil, and white truffle salt. The set was on sale and was at a great price, even if it had not been on sale. The quality of the oil is fantastic and I am addicted to the salt already. Go here if you want to get or gift great quality oils and other fine foods.
