I visited the Tashkent Supermarket in Brighton Beach and this one in the West Village within a couple of days of each other. I had a slice of Dubai Cheesecake from Brighton Beach that was so good I went in when I saw the West Village location. Alas, no Dubai Cheesecake, but there were lots of other good things. Obviously this does not have the square footage of Brighton Beach but there was still a big beautiful hot food bar and a nice bakery selection. I chose a slice of Dubai Cake. It was not as good as the cheesecake but it was very tasty. I will be back!

I love Tashkent & wish they made one closer to where I live, like right next door is ideal haha. Everything is fresh at least what I've tried & tasty. Do note that they do charge by the type of item so feel free to stock up on different boxes for hot food/cold food/etc. the only reason I knocked it down from five to four stars is I wish they had some seating but at the end of the day it is a supermarket so it's not inherently necessary haha.

Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, is the most populous city in Central Asia, and this market manages to pack an impressive amount into its aisles, though mostly dominated by their incredible hot bar. They took over a former Walgreens space, so it's not huge for a supermarket but they have a robust hot buffet and salad bar, and it's especially packed on weekends with people coming for the plov and golubtsi. When the food is this good, you brave the crowds. Prices run high, like a carton of blueberries is nearly $10, so I'd stick to shopping elsewhere for everyday staples. But there's a lot here you simply can't get unless you make a trip to Brighton Beach, and if you're anything like me, your eyes will get bigger than your stomach. So much looks amazing. I'm actually glad it's busy, because the turnover is constant and nothing sits out for long. The spread is impressive: salads galore, excellent plov, chicken sausage prepared so many ways. One of my favorite discoveries was golubtsi, which is cabbage stuffed with chicken sausage and full of flavor. Another highlight was a salad made with charred, fried eggplant, each piece fresh and crispy. One thing to know before you go is that every buffet item is priced differently, and you're asked not to mix items in the same container, otherwise you'll be charged by weight for the most expensive thing in it. If you're a sampler like me, you'll end up with a whole stack of containers: two dumplings here, a little plov there, a scoop of salad in another. It's a little unwieldy and i wish for them to come up with a better system. This is a smaller version of the larger market in Brighton Beach or Forest Hills, but if that's too far a trek, we've got one right here in the city.

Their dessert bar is delicious & fresh They are always replenishing it .

Great good, great prices & great service. Every single I've had there has been fresh, delicious & affordable.

Who knew a grocery store counter could have such good food! Of course, Tashkent is no ordinary grocery store. Maybe half the store if not more is occupied by buffet bars with a vast array of hot and cold prepared foods and desserts from a surprising number of cuisines (I saw a sushi casserole and Indian-style curry among them). But you're probably coming for the Central Asian/Eastern European food, and that's what I went for. I first knew I had to get a slice of the medovyk, or honey cake, after having it at Veselka once and loving it. Then I went for the plov, which is a personal favorite of mine and also perhaps Tashkent's most famous dish. The plov isn't self-serve like the other dishes, perhaps so people don't just take the meat and leave the rice behind, but the workers take care to give you a fair balance of meat, veggies, and rice. I saw that the usual serving containers for the plov were quite big for my appetite and requested a smaller cup, which the worker behind the counter graciously accommodated. The checkout line moves fast and altogether my lunch and dessert only cost $12. Be aware that if you accept a bag it's an extra charge and one of those big hulking tote bags, and for my small takeout meal I should have went without. There doesn't appear to be seating but Washington Square Park is a short walk away if it's a nice day. The plov was delicious and easily among the best I had. You get a generous portion of tender slow-cooked meat that you can tear apart with a spoon, and even the rice is so flavorful you won't mind eating every grain. The cake was also just as I hoped, moist and creamy with a clear honey flavor without being too sweet. If I lived or worked nearby, I'd be happy to be a regular at Tashkent!

Food/drinks: yum! Really loved the spinach mint filled options! I will definitely be coming back, there were too many options to choose from but not enough belly space Atmosphere: very busy and packed especially on the weekends! But love the grocery and hot bar options! The aisles are small so it's easy to get cramped Service: fast and friendly! Price: cheap!

I can confirm all delicious and would get again, particularly the Honey Cake w Condensed Milk (you had me at Condensed Milk)

I stumbled onto this place after I had lunch in West Village and was just walking around. I always like to check out specialty food markets, so I went in to take a peek. Wow, I was overwhelmed with the extensive selection of cold & hot bar options and bakery delights. They offer central Asian, Slavic, Turkish, and Soviet foods. It was all rows and rows of eye candy to me! I mentally marked this place to grab lunch next time & take to nearby Washington Square Park to eat and watch the romping mix of humanity that runs through that fun park.

I've had this place bookmarked for a while and finally made it last week. There has never been a store with a more appealing food buffet. All the foods look extremely aesthetically pleasing. Makes you just wanna try everything. I took a stroll around the entire store to get the lay of the land while simultaneously making mental notes of what I might get. I ended up with a bit of everything to try. My standouts were the mini dumplings and beef kebab. The rest of my haul was decent. Didn't love the pastries. Buckwheat bread was good. The prices were reasonable. Will def return to try more things.

Really unique spot with a TON of delicious looking ethnic food. If you want unique produce as well as a great selection of prepared foods, this is the spot to go to.

Waited so long for this market to open and I had no idea this would be plov heaven in the city! The salad bar, bakery, plov, everything was amazing and the selection is graaaaand. Absolutely enjoyed everything here. Hardest part was selecting enough variety in one-go (best kind of challenges lol). But really, the plov is on-point. I've been to Uzbekistan and had all sorts of plov and this was the closest and most authentic I could find in the city (haven't ventured out to queens or bk to try). Service is quick and friendly. But my goodness the selection is amazing here. Loved it all. Great job guys!

There is a lot of hot food abd easy pick up options here. I got a piece of roast beef, beef samsa and chicken plov. There are so many food options. It's nothing overwhelming and exciting. The roast beef was tasty: hot, salty and soft with a light bite to it. The beef samsa was cold but the bread of it was tasty. It was crispy, flaky and layered. It wasn't stuffed with meat but it was a good amount. A bit salty but a good snack. I would get it again. It's a clean big supermarket. No special decorations but I like the layout. Service was fine. Some staff friendlier than others. I do wish their was more organization with the line but it's a tight area. Would come again and but some new products.

European butters priced at under $6. Small loaves of multigrain breads at $1.75. This was Tashkent Supermarket which opened earlier this year. Age and I went to see it and were pleasantly surprised by the prices and quality of this Uzbek market. From vegetables to diary, biscuits and the array of freshly prepared foods we had not seen such a spread. Both of us bought a few items. I liked the butters as I like to bake. Service was friendly and efficient. On the next visit, I made a beeline for the butters again and the breads. I wish I lived nearer so this would be easier to shop. However with the tariffs I wonder if the prices are still so low?

To feee a family of three, including our nine-year-old daughter, we ordered the chicken plov, langman, beet caviar, and the kids mini dumplings. Everything tasted great, but the winner was the langman. The passion fruit and mango lemonade was refreshing. (Note: It's carbonated.) We ordered the mini umka puffs (three beef and two cheese), and they were very oily and soggy on the bottom. The beef filling was mostly salt and pepper with no real depth of flavor, plus lots of fat and gristle. The cheburek was almost the exact same experience -- same filling, same sauce, and again not very tasty. The Uzbek plov was also very, very oily. The meat in that dish was better than the others, but overall it still lacked flavor. The steak manti was honestly close to inedible. It tasted bad, very fatty, and what initially seemed like juicy filling inside turned out to just be condensation water. The Kazan kebab was especially disappointing because the picture on their website looks incredible. In reality, it looked nothing like the photos -- the meat was basically boiled, extremely fatty, and pretty unpleasant. Thankfully, the tender beef short ribs were the best thing we ordered. The meat actually had flavor, and the potatoes were good. The lemonade was also very good. I went in expecting Uzbek food to be less heavily spiced than other cuisines, which is completely fine, but this was beyond that -- the food just felt low quality and poorly executed. For four people, with only one lemonade and no alcoholic drinks, the bill came to about $260, which felt insanely expensive for the quality we received. The atmosphere was nice, but the basement dining area was also extremely hot and uncomfortable. Overall, this place did not live up to the hype. Check the pictures for the dishes we ordered.

I was brought here by my friend (and her family) as she recommended the place, and she came pretty often. I would say that my friend sometimes has interesting taste, but so far her recommendations have been really solid. Since my friend brought me here, I just took whatever she recommended, as she took command of all ordering. This was great for me, since I opened the menu and was like... wow, I don't even know what is good. So I just sat back and *attempted* to listen to what was going on. We ended up getting hot tea with lemon, beef skirt kebab, lamb kebab, samsa, cheburek with meat, and a few other things I'm not quite sure about. She just ordered, and honestly, I just ate everything she threw at me. The samsas were delicious! They were super flaky, and the meat was well seasoned and super juicy. The samsa were also quite hefty, they fill you up if you eat too many. It reminded me of the homemade ones my friend used to give me. Next up, the cheburek with meat. This was a first for me, and my friend said it was a must get. She was completely right... we ended up getting a 2nd order of this. It was super light, compared to everything else we ordered, as it is only filled with a bit of meat. The dough is fried to perfection, it was a bit crispy, soft, and didn't feel oily. It came with what I assume is a tomato sauce, which pairs well with it. We also got a few of the beef and lamb kebabs, and they were also delicious. The beef tasted better than the lamb, but my friend says that is just depends on the day. So I guess it depends on who is cooking that day? But the beef was super juicy, and it was well seasoned. The lamb was also good, but it just wasn't as yummy as the beef skirt. Overall, I really like everything here and I look forward to my next trip back to NY.
