I absolutely LOVE this Eastern European and Mediterranean Market! I've been coming to Parrot for many years. There are multiple locations in Queens: 2 in Sunnyside, 1 in Ridgewood, and 1 in Astoria. I wish they'd open a store in Long Island! Friendly and welcoming service; very reasonable prices! A true Gem! Parrot is packed with so many offerings! I can't even begin to name everything they offer but some items are: - Fresh pastries and desserts - Fresh Cheeses & Meats - Butcher Shop with specialty meats - Refrigerated & Frozen Foods: Manti dumplings, sausages, Pierogies, Yogurts, Soups, etc. - Olives Galore - Fresh Coffees, Teas & Spices - International Snacks - Fresh Baked Goods - Nuts, Candies, Cookies, Spreads, Dried Fruits - And MUCH MUCH MORE!! Each aisle is full of surprises, and it's fun just to walk down each and every aisle to see all their items. You just never know what you'll find! But be warned: your basket will be filled very quickly! My two fave items from this market are their Turkish Pide Bread and their ELITE Instant Turkish Coffee. (If you know, you know!). The woman who made my cup of coffee was coughing, raised her hand to her mouth and did not wash it. She also microwaved my coffee which - well i was not actually going to drink it, but its 9am. If the coffee is hot and fresh now, it never will be. Now i am holding it on the train because i forgot to put it down, because i still need coffee. Waste of money and a health risk. read more

1/2 pound minimum on sliced deli meats. Wouldn't give my friend, who's a single mom, 1/4 lb of pancetta (she needed a few slices for one dish). Never have I heard of a deli, grocery store, or butcher requiring patrons purchase a 1/2 pound minimum. Shameful for a small business that they take advantage of their customers and fellow community members. I used to live in the area, and loved the store/shopped there frequently. Plenty of other places in the area that sell meat. I'm giving them two stars because I'm nicer than they are. read more

I think I just spoke with the owner as I suggested to order Organic Vital Farms eggs and he was very receptive and asked me to come back and check. They have stock of Mediterranean food- French, Greek, Bulgarian products. Olive bar, pastry station and coffee selection from around the world. I believe this is sister business to Parrot Grocery on 46th & Queens Blvd but more specious with fresh produce. It is one stop to do your grocery shopping, veggies, fruits and Mediterranean goodies. This is where I buy my coffee in Sunnyside. There is decaf and tons of caf flavors. With all the aromas of coffe, it smells intoxicating in there. I love to get pierogies here and also some delicious soups. Another thing to mention is that Manchego cheese is sold here. OMG. I love their canned goods too. I get their dolmades (stuffed grape leaves here) and the olives. I figure it's a great place to visit if you are preparing appetizers for a party. In this hood it might just be groceries, but in many other circles Parrot Coffee would qualify as so much more. Armed with plenty of ethnic goods and imported items, they also feature an array of locally made stuff that anyone can appreciate. Sunnyside already has a lot to offer, but Parrot Coffee is an added bonus and a major win for the hood. First off, is there a more impressive variety of spinach pies here? How about eggplant pies? Various shapes, sizes, burekas, etc. you name it, they have it. The same goes for their stellar selection of cheeses, which includes several different kinds of feta and offered at prices that definitely don't break the bank. Another score for the cornucopia of meats and sausages, all quality and limited in inventory. Then there is the actual coffee itself. While they don't serve lattes and cappuccinos, they have enough beans in bulk from various regions of the world. Buy them by the pound, take em home and ground up a fresh brew for yourself. Who needs chain coffee when you have this as an option? And because they've been so popular and successful, Sunnyside is merely one of several stories in western Queens. There is a lot to love about Parrot Coffee Grocery and I find myself learning, as well as discovering something new and fantastic with every subsequent visit. read more

When I miss some specific Romanian treats I go there. I love it cuz it's the only place where I find my so loved ROM chocolate (though, it only happens rarely; as I understood there are people who buy whole boxes of it :|). It is a bit pricey in my opinion, but it's the only place where I find Magura, ROM, Poiana, Eugenia (Romanian sweets), carnati Trandafir (thick sausages), and branza de burduf (salty sheep cheese) all under one roof. They have not only Romanian stuf, but Turkish and Russian as well. Try the chicken spread, or Turkish sweets, they won't let you down either. The salespeople, and unfortunately mostly just the Romanians, could send people off more nicely; they always seem to be in such a rush. One more thing; they also sell cooked Romanian food (like stuffed cabbage, schnitzel ), which is good, not like mom's food, but good. The space is tiny and the isles narrow, I always end up feeling like an elephant in a china store. But definitely my sweets location. P.S.: they even had must!!! It has been over a month since El Shater had closed down, and a centralized stop for quality Mediterranean delicacies is sorely missing. Fortunately, a replacement seem to have arrived as I stumbled upon this newly opened store on Queens Blvd between 45th and 46th. As I walked through the store, workers were still stocking up the shelves and freezer units. While it isn't the size of a Met Food or Rite aid, it still contains a sizable selection of goods including cold cuts, nuts, spreads, candies, tea leaves, coffee beans, spices, baklava treats, cheeses, and other frozen/dry goods. Prices are very reasonable compared to most other supermarket/delis in the area. Residents of Ridgewood and Astoria already get to enjoy the projects of Parrot Coffee, so their decision to open up another store in Sunnyside is very much welcomed! read more

They have everything I need!! I'm so glad that I have such a local shop to buy from. The prices are way beyond reasonable, and it's a very family oriented business! They honestly have the best olives, pickles, cheeses, selection of meats, etc. And I honestly love that many of the workers speak Romanian as well, it's very helpful in ordering at the deli counter, or finding something I need. The store is really good. They have many items from Europe. They have a large selection of coffee. For me the most important thing is that they coffee from Bosnia. Only thing I didn't like is the service. I came this morning at 8am when they just opened. Three sales people were working. Because it was my first time in the store, I couldn't find the coffee "zlatna dzezva", then I kindly asked if they have it and where I can find it. But one of the sales peoples answer was very rude, "we do not have Bosnian coffee". She sounded like she didn't like that I asked for "Bosnian" coffee. But another lady was very kind and she showed me the place with the coffee. When I brought the coffee to the cashier to pay, I was trying to tell her but she ignored me even when I called her three times. Very disappointed with her behavior, but very happy with items in the store. read more

Went there for the first time, last week. A huge selection of brined cheeses, interesting new flat breads to try, and I'm drinking a cup of their Guatemalan coffee right now, it's delicious. Friendly helpful staff, with a little bit of a language barrier, but we muddled through. I'll return for coffee, when I can't go to Carmel in Forest Hills, or Porto Rico in the Village. But will definitely go back to explore their exotic food selection. read more

1) They frequently sell expired food and one time when I went back the same hour because the caviar, which I've purchased before with them, was clearly expired and definitely "off" they didn't want to return my money or let me exchange it. I had to argue with them for 10 minutes about how this was bad business practice and downright wrong before they would return my money, packaged with a few nasty words from their manager. 2) I've many times seen flies buzzing around and actually landing on the cooked meat that they have in the glass case for cooked food. Gross gross gross 3) Their halva covered in chocolate tasted off. Again I asked to exchange it for a fresh one and they were downright nasty and rude. I'm sad to leave a poor review for Parrot Grocery store. I've been a loyal customer for years and I don't even live in the neighborhood. I usually come for their homemade foods, especially their meatballs and soups. They are somewhat inconsistent with their recipes, but the flavor has always been good. However, they are now making their meatballs 50% smaller and charging the same amount. It may sound like a small, meatball drop in the bucket, but to me...it's the principle of the action to a loyal customer..."me". Unfortunately, the flavor wasn't very good either and it was overcooked. I guess trying to squeeze a little more profit margin has hurt the quality of the foods. I'll still go there for the Italian roast coffee beans and some of the other interesting processed meats and nice feta cheeses, but I'm definitely ball-disappointed and I'm assuming that this process trying to increase their margins will continue to affect other food areas. Reaffirming most of my prior review, I want to upgrade this place as I have continued to come here and find the service consistently helpful, patient, and kind, and also relish the addition of some excellent items on the homemade snack bar. Check out the sunflower seed crunch, yogurt peanuts, and chocolate covered pretzels: the fifth star is because the chocolate is actually good-quality dark chocolate! For five bucks, you get a nice snack pack that will easily last the work week. Top quality values here: * Homemade pita (unlabeled)--this is the best thing in the store! But usually sold out by afternoon :-( * House blend coffee * Feta cheeses, $4-8 by the pound * Homemade spreads (fridge section) * nuts, snacks, and dried fruits (available self serve; check out the ~$5 boxes) Still can't recommend the olive bar as consistent and since tasting is not allowed or courteous; I still don't usually buy here, unless I will eat a lot in a day or will cook with them. read more

Almost every year I get my dad nuts for Father's Day. This is my nuts spot. They have good prices, and the best variety. Big, small, fruity, you name it. The selection runs much deeper than that with Mediterranean goods, but I just like their nuts. The Parrot has an amazing selection of international products all in one place, from Turkish goodies, to European teas and two types of Sriracha. However, their pricing is a all over the place - some things are well priced (i.e. fruits and nuts) and others inexplicably cost a few more dollars than anywhere else (i.e. oil and hand lotion?). Because of this I only buy certain items from the store. I went to this store during lunch hour so I only has 15 minutes to shop. This is what I got: 4 different sheep/goat cheese each for a quarter. The sales girl is so nice to write the cheese name on it. Two peace of sausage. Sautéed mushroom. Half pound of fry pork belly. Two pieces of candy, a Spanish pie. The young man was so nice too. Store is very clean. Outside street parking is easy. Food is good with a very reasonable price. Sales girl and boy is wonderful. What else you want from a local store? I will go back. read more

This is a Eastern European (Romanian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian, Macedonian) and Turkish market. I am not sure why the call it Parrot, but I found the same brands here that are in markets in Istanbul. This place is, quite literally, filled to the brim with affordable and hard to find goodies. Taramasalta? Sure. Turkish coffee? Why not. I am a customer of Parrot Coffee in Astoria, and I'm very happy that they opened the same store in Sunny Side - a very nice location. The setting of the store is really fancy, everything is so clean and neat. The items are really easily found. They have a wide range of spices, olives and coffee, and those are self-served. They also offer many kinds of aromatic teas. The feta cheese's prices are pretty low, compared to other super-markets. I tried their home-made baklava and kataifi, and they are incredibly delicious. The beautiful store gives you the chance to find anything you were craving for, that is European, for example: Bulgarian + Romanian feta cheese, Romanian sausage, Bulgarian yogurt, and many other sweet things like - waffers, chocolate, anything from Europe. The staff is nice and friendly. I recommed the store to anybody that likes European food, they have A LOT of it. read more

This might be my favorite store ever. They have an awesome selection of European cheeses, meats, oils/spreads, candy, and snacks. The best part is the olive bar and the fresh coffee bean bar. I have only had the pre-cooked counter food a few times, but every time it was great! This is a place I discovered walking Queens Blvd on my way to classes at LaGCC a few years ago. It has a large selection of coffee beans, including flavored, which is what drew me in to begin with. This is where grandma comes to get her fresh ingredients in the morning so she can make supper for her kids after they come home from work. Porcini ravioli (frozen) really excellent. Coffee selection excellent - love the beans from Guatemala but not regularly available. Good olive selection. Aged Manchego as mentioned but no Gruyere, Roquefort.. Some European pilsners - recently saw Veltins Pilsner there - a favorite for me but it has also disappeared (btw, a rarity, the brewery is 100% family owned!). Oh!
