I was traveling from Rapid City, SD to Minnesota with my date and we found ourselves in the middle of nowhere and hungry at dinner time. We found Commerce Street Grille & Bar on yelp when our cell service worked for a nanosecond and decided to check it out due to highway proximity and positive reviews. And the idea of another fast-food meal at that point in time made me want to puke. Instead we read about the Commerce Street salad bar and headed for Plinketron or Planetroon or whatever town it's in. I thought the restaurant would be a mobile home in the desert given the population density in this part of South Dakota. Surprisingly it's actually a legitimate "dive bar" with a sizable kitchen and menu. The night we showed up there were a few tables occupied with locals. It was pick-your-own pasta night with lots of other entrees on the chalkboard menu as well. We both had the pasta, mine with red sauce and shrimp, hers with meat sauce. The included salad bar was simple but good, and the pasta was served al dente. Everything was tasty, portions were reasonable and prices were fair. Service was excellent. This time of the year, summer in the Badlands, the bugs are plentiful, so we had a few house flies visit our table. But the dining room, kitchen and bathrooms were otherwise clean. Oh my if you get a chance you gotta go to this dinner. It's awesomely great. Had the Broasted chicken and potato salad. The broasted chicken was so good. The young lady that served us was great too. She was a such a good server. We arrived at 1pm and were leaving at1:38. Where can you eat FRESH broasted chicken in that time. We were traveling and we needed a quick meal. Good job guys. Wish we lived closer to this restaurant we would be there a lot. Hard to find a great place anymore. Try it you'll like it. read more

My buddy and I came in before they closed at 2:00, were welcomed in and served an excellent meal of broasted chicken accompanied by a couple of pints of Alaskan Amber. Our server, Raelee, was cheerful, attentive, accomodating, and efficient. I recommend this little gem in the country! read more

Breakfast was really greasy. My husband's and kids enjoyed it. Beautifully decorated and a great option for such a small town. Was not expecting it to be so nice. I have no idea what they have for supper here so I cannot comment on that. The toast and pancakes looked delicious and the bacon didn't taste fake or microwaved like so many restaurants these days. read more

Pretty good place to stop for lunch. The outside looks pretty plain but the inside is cute and modern. Pretty wide variety of food options on the menu which was surprising for such a rural area. Walleye was moist and seasoned well. Atmosphere is calming and relaxed. Waitress was nice. The place is huge and can host big parties in the back of the restaurant so it's a little more private. Decent sized bar in the middle. Bathrooms are clean and even a changing table for Mom and baby. read more

What a great restaurant in this little town. Eight of us dined here on Saturday night. We arrived around 5:30 the restaurant was not crowded. I had a tasty sour apple martini. The quality of the drink was surprising because I usually cannot find a good apple martini in small towns. Most of the group had the flat iron steak which was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The salad bar was very good. Our server was outstanding, attentive and friendly. I highly recommend the Commerce Street Grill. The only downside to our meal were the families eating nearby who allowed their small children to scream and run around. read more
