In part it comes across as a typical suburban pub with a sports bar, a small courtyard for the smokers, a bistro, and a room full of pokies, but it is the front bar that is pretty impressive. At night they have live bands, which while they do have a cover charge, if you happen to be in the pub before they set up you can get away with not actually paying. The front bar also has a decent selection of craft beers, which is another thing that I like, though they only offer them in the front bar. They also have a function room upstairs with a skydeck, however when I was here it was closed, which was a little unfortunate since I really do like my rooftop bars (and the courtyard was pretty ordinary). Not a bad place, but there are certainly much better pubs to spend a Saturday night.

I found that the service was okay, but it also seemed that it was a pretty popular place for people to come to, considering the crowds that had decided to camp here for the evening. I usually attribute comfort inn to more motel style accomodation. Low expectation, overnight cos u have to sleep somewhere type of place. Although admittedly, this one seems to have a lot more care out into it. The couple managing this place obviously takes a lot of pride and keeping of the rooms. Shower was clean, the queen room has enough space for a small 2 seater sofa and a single armchair. Overall it was a pleasant stay for me and likely to return. This is definitely my pick of the accomodation in this area.

The rooms were exceptional for a Comfort Inn chain and the best we have stayed at in the chain. Rooms are very well appointed and looked after and the couple that run the hotel are lovely and clearly take pride in the accomodation and how things are maintained. Bed was a king size and comfy and the bathroom clean and with everything you need. Would definitely make this our choice on our next visit!

The Stump ticked every one of these all-important 'old man pub' boxes. We came here twice during our Port Fairy weekend getaway. Once was for an extremely important post-drive pint, and the second was for Friday night drinks. On Friday night The Stump (also called The Caledonian Inn) has live music and I can assure you they are playing all the classics - Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi - all the songs you inexplicably know all the words to. Beers on tap are fairly simple, with the most 'crafty' being Fat Yak, but you really shouldn't be drinking that fancy beer in a pub as classic as The Stump. The beer is cold and that's all that matters. While we didn't dine here, the menu looked exactly as you can imagine with the addition of a few variants of the parma. There is also a MAGNIFICENT beer garden as well as seats out the front for people watching. The Stump is by far the best pub in Port Fairy, which is probably why it's been around for so damn long!

It was really an inviting and friendly restaurant/bar (What for some strange reason they call a hotel but they have no rooms to let.). They had live music many days and although I hadn't heard of any of the bands being from the U.S. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. I learned more about cricket here than I ever though I would want to know. It's still such a strange game to me haha. The rest of the down town area of Port Fairy is a short walk away, and the beach is not but a block or two further. I hope the Stump is around still on my next trip to Port Fairy.

Actually, I'm a little bit surprised that it too me so long to get around to actually writing a review of this place, especially since such places to tend to rate higher than others. Okay, it is a typical locals pub, but the ambience isn't bad, and it feels that it is an okay pub if you are relaxed, and not overtly touristy. Okay, they didn't necessarily have anything special on tap, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, even if you are like me and have developed a rather snobbish taste for craft beers. Definitely one I would go back to.

Anyway, this pub was actually quite a short walk from the motel we were staying at while we were in Warrnambool and it wasn't a bad pub, but nothing really all that exciting. Actually, my friend quite liked it namely because he said that it reminded him of pubs in London (though I haven't been to that many London pubs to be able to compare the two). The staff were okay, and they had a small front bar as well as a restaurant out the back (along with a bottle shop). It was a nice, quiet little pub but not one of my favourites.

The other problem with giving a review is that I stayed here on an Easter long weekend, which meant that the prices were going to be pretty inflated (though I have found accomodation can be pricey anywhere in Victoria - and in fact Australia). However I can say that I didn't mind the place - the beds were comfortable, and the showers were hot and had a decent pressure. They also had a mini bar, which I don't see many of these days (probably because they generally always go missing), and the prices in the said mini-bar were also pretty reasonable. Mind you, my friend was about to open the bottle of wine, believing that it was a gift, when I gently pointed out to him that it was also a part of the mini bar - so he went around the corner to the bottleshop and ended up buying one that was somewhat more expensive.

Well, I can now say that I have visited this pub and had a beer, which means that it is another…read moreplace that I can mark off of my list of pubs to visit (though I doubt I will ever get to grace the bar of all of them). It was probably quite fortuitous when I came here because the new owners were in the process of renovating the place and turning it from a tired old country pub in the middle of nowhere into a much more fashionable establishment that doubles as tea rooms. In fact one of the things that they specialise in is high tea, though when I was passing through I didn't have time to really indulge. However, I must say that they have done a fantastic job, and the gardens out the back are simply amazing. Oh, and I should also mention that the staff are really friendly, and quite talkative, but then that is something that I would expect with country pubs.
