If you know me well, you know I love an old man pub. That crusty smell of stale beer and ancient cigarette smoke, seats that have seen a thousand butts and weird memorabilia on the walls as far as the eye can see.
The Stump ticked every one of these all-important 'old man pub' boxes.
We came here twice during our Port Fairy weekend getaway. Once was for an extremely important post-drive pint, and the second was for Friday night drinks.
On Friday night The Stump (also called The Caledonian Inn) has live music and I can assure you they are playing all the classics - Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi - all the songs you inexplicably know all the words to.
Beers on tap are fairly simple, with the most 'crafty' being Fat Yak, but you really shouldn't be drinking that fancy beer in a pub as classic as The Stump. The beer is cold and that's all that matters.
While we didn't dine here, the menu looked exactly as you can imagine with the addition of a few variants of the parma. There is also a MAGNIFICENT beer garden as well as seats out the front for people watching.
The Stump is by far the best pub in Port Fairy, which is probably why it's been around for so damn long! read more
