I am actually fairly new to the area and to Common Ground. I started working for Common Ground in April and have continued to be impressed as time goes on. Common Ground staff and volunteers have extensive, nationally recognized crisis intervention and mental health first aid training. There is a wealth of resources available and the staff and volunteers seem genuinely passionate about helping those in the community get through tough times. I have heard countless stories of staff who were previously helped by Common Ground and were so moved that they wanted to work here and give back to the community as well. yall fucking suck. i sat there at 1am until like 7am waiting to be seen. and the only person we saw was a man who we assumed was a resident there and he offered me a banana. we sat in a freezing cold room, no entertainment, no blankets on plastic chairs. and when i was finally seen all they did was give me a survey to fill out and ask me if i felt safe enough to go home. i was 12. dont go here. service was horrible. read more

Recently had my sister taken to common ground. This was her 2nd time to go there under court order.1st time she was evaluated and deemed to have a mental illness. I was so pleased that she was going to get the help she so dispertly needed. She was moved to the 4th floor for observation.when she got released she was diagnosed to be mentally ill .the 2nd time this past march, common ground took her in under court order,I showed that I was legal guardian,they said they were going to keep her again.i was told to come back in am. and bring her some clothes.so I went to my mothers house to get clothes , the next morning,to my surprise she was HOME!!!! I called the lawyer . He said she shouldn't be home. Called common ground, asked why and how my sister was released! Oh we can not discuss it they said. But I was not notified!! Did not seem to matter. So next day I drive out to common ground again,NOW I am told she was evaluated by the common ground team and deemed ,NOT TO BE MENTALY ILL..this after being in the hospital for 30 days back in November .so in a 180 minute interview by the crack COMMON GROUND TEAM , the team decided she was not mentally ill.now just try calling and talking to those folks out there.,to get answers and be ready for a run around! They told me they did not keep records and the next day they were sent to their admin bldg, so any body I talked to could not answer any thing, even if she was given any medication! So now I had to go to the admin bldg to get the records,of course you can't get them the same day, so I take off work just to sign the paper work! They say they will b ready tomorrow ,at230, but be there no latter than 330 now I have to take time off work again! So I get there and sign more papers,just to get what is mine to have, oh they say we must see your guardian papers. That I say is in with the papers, I showed to common ground which they copied. All I can say I hope nobody else should go through this merry go round ride they call common ground. Their right hand does not know what the left is doing. If you should seek answers good luck, to date I have not been contacted by any one to tell me why my sister was released, with out contacting the two court appointed GUARDIAN,myself and the lawyer!!!!!! At the very least you might think, you know ,, as follow up to call and see how my sister is doing. I guess after 180 minutes your time is up and we really don't care anymore! I worked as a crisis interventionist for exactly 11 months. I loved my job, I loved my consumers, and I loved SOME of the people I worked with! I was one of the hardest worker and reliable members of the team! I would pull unexpected doubles on a regular basis and I was the 1st to be called in to cover a shift, in which I would accept due to not wanting my co-workers to struggle with the mass volume of people that we saw on a daily basis! I would often go beyond my job duties to help my supervisor and charge nurses regularly! I worked very well with my team, doctors, and consumers! However, all that didn't matter when they decided to fire me. My supervisor (afternoons) did not care for me and had it out for me from day one! It wasn't until I was fired that I realized just how much she wanted me out of there! I was asked on a daily basis to look up information regarding past and present consumers for her, complete "blue sheets" on consumers while they were at hospitals, etc. I went beyond my job description to help a supervisor that didn't want me there! And the entire time, she was doing this to make it appear that I was violating consumers rights to HR. Not to mention I had false accusations reported against me, in which HR also ran with :-( I also kept a resource book in a cabinet that I put together for all of my co-worker to use for any of their consumers. However, I did have my login and password info in the very front of the binder (dumb I know, you live and learn) which was utilized by another co-worker or supervisor to look up additional names of people and made it look as if I was the one doing it :-( What is really disheartening is that I put my whole heart and sole into this job to just be thrown away in a split second due to THINKING I was doing the right thing by completing the tasks that were given to me! I hope that this review will reach Common Grounds HR, supervisors, and the OCCMHA (even though we have spoken numerous times on how to improve the system), and to others seeking employment there. Beware that you, nor your work will be valued, and gossip is everywhere! Keep to yourself and only do what is described in your job description. Although it took me awhile to write this review due to feeling hurt, upset, and betrayed by a company I worked so hard for, I am really hoping this will help me let go of the bitterness of losing a piece of myself that I lost while working and being fired for this company! This place is a joke! I have chronic mental illness and have gone to this supposed crisis center to get help 13x in about 2 years. I needed hospitalization, but unless you set your effing self on fire, they will not help you! Unless you have great insurance! Most ppl w mental illness DO NOT have good coverage. Right now as I type, i called the 24 hour hotline to get help, twice- the 1st lady was rude ( mind u, im having harmful thoughts) she said " help yourself.' The 2nd lady was nicer, but trust me, YOU DO WANT TO AVOID THIS EFFING PLACE! All that happens is you become more ill when they kick you too the street. Many ppl have been turned away, only to kill themselves or harm others!! Little do they know that protests are being formed. They will be humiliated. We will not go down without a fight. ALL OF OAKLAND COUNTY SERVICES SUCK- BUT THEY ARE THE WORST. GOD and a few connections I have will expose the bs! Engler and Snyder started cutting funds, but We will persevere! F common ground, a useless, impotent mostly cruel facilty. Its all abt money. Money. Money! read more

This place is horrible! Many people with severe mental health issues are continually turned away from getting the help they desperately need. Suicidal or people who are a harm to others they will evaluate for 15 minutes and send them home untreated. The funding cuts by Snyder are possibly the cause of such horrid care. But it seems most of this staff do not care either. They are past caring. They know that very sick people who need hospitalization or immediate attention are going home. The 24 hour crisis hotline is a joke too. My dear friend was hung up on twice by staff there! How can you hang up on a person in crisis? I have seen this very special person decline in their health due to being denied treatment. Even the places they were referred to denied this person help. I cannot believe the stories I have heard! I see no real improvement in this deeply flawed mental health system. It is a failure. If you have a chronic mental illness, you are usually on state medicaid and Common Ground, who are supposed to service those with medicaid, do not. I also know a lady whos son commited suicide after begging for help numerous times. He explained he was hearing and seeing things. He was sent home and took his own life! Is this how we treat people with this invisible illness? Will this review even be published? Will the truth ever come out? Sadly, there is no other option in Oakland County for those who are ill and poor. I cannot nor will I stop exposing such shameful practices. The State of Michigan has blood on their hands. Common Ground has blood on their hands. Because the people they are turning away are taking their own lives. This is very serious. If you or a Family member or friend need help and havent good insurance, dont bother with this facility. It is impotent. read more
