Dr Brear is retired, and Commonwealth Eye and the optician next door are closed. Got cataract surgery from Dr Brear a few years ago and everything has been fine. Didn't find out he retired until I called for annual checkup. read more

I have gone to Dr. Brear for nearly 30 years and have found him and his staff friendly, professional, caring and ready to answer my questions. I was there over 2 hours with my 7 year old to get his vision checked and to update his prescription from 2 years prior. The technician struggled to get an accurate reading for 45 minutes and then sent me to Dr. Brear who was overbooked and way behind. He told me that his current prescription was 20/25, close enough and I didn't need a new one. I paid $225 and 2 hours of my life for the actual Ophthalmologist I paid to see just say "eh, close enough". Not to mention the paperwork and numbers passed off between people was incredibly confusing and different each time I heard it. I asked them before my appointment to call my son's pediatric ophthalmologist for the history. Which they obviously didn't do. Now I don't have an updated prescription and I am out $225!! I asked for a refund because I feel like I need to see drive an hour away to see his pediatric eye doctor and was met with "Well we won't do that we can just send you the reading we got and fix it if it doesn't work.." The reading you got wasn't complete, why would I buy new glasses with that? This place is not for kids it's for the elderly. Do not take young children here. My son hated it. Probably one of the worst experience I have ever had with a provider. First of we went into the appointment hoping to get a new prescription due to the last we received being awful. Brear didn't even mention a prescription. My mother got her eye exam done and there was a blood clot in her eye that he missed...WTF. Please save yourself and go somewhere else. read more

A very pleasant and professional staff who care about their patients. My wife and I have been going to Dr. Brear for about 10 years and have always received excellent service. When I had cataracts removed and lenses put in, they very clearly explained my options and helped me choose the option best for me. This was in 2009, and I have not a single problem. read more
