I haven't been seen by any one yet but have an up coming appointment. These reviews have scared me to death. I have sever anxiety and sever pain. I am only 35 years old. I'm afraid they're just going to push the shots that I've already had and had 0 relief from... I've tried everything I need pain medication or a new knee and back and from the looks of it they're just going to treat me like an addict push the shots on me and not actually care for me or my pain. The reviews makes me not even want to waste my time. My anxiety is through the roof over these reviews. I didn't want to leave a review until I had spoken with a clinic manager but it is impossible to find or get there from here. I have been a patient here for close to a year. During this time I have undergone multiple painful unnecessary procedures to pacify the insurance gods. After I had jumped through those hurdles they finally did two ablations. These helped me for about a month or a month and a half. The PA, which is all you will ever see out there after the initial visit, decided at this time that he would finally order imaging. One day my phone rang and it was him. He told me my MRI showed I had neoplasm of the spine. This is a very very devastating news and anyone with one class in anything healthcare related would know better than to deliver such news over the phone. I was home alone at the time and had no one but my dogs to comfort me. In addition to that when I had seen this PA he would bust into the exam room without ever knocking to let me know he was entering. Then he would immediately proceed to burying his face in the computer and not listening or even interested in one word I would have to say. I'm sick of these pain clinics treating patients like they are convicts. I have never asked them for so much as a baby aspirin. I worked in healthcare for four decades which is the reason my back is in the shape it is in. I know the proper way to treat and listen to a patient. As far as the doctor is concerned with the MRI done, they insisted I come in two days after I have a procedure to get the results because he just will not discuss such things on his injection days. Talk about total disrespect for a patient and their time. I subsequently called and told them to discharge me from their clinic. I have no interest in dealing with such unprofessional people that are essentially an assembly line of pain management. Good luck to all who go here. Hope your outcome is better. I would advise against this place they didn't discuss how much pain the procedure would be . Until I was having the procedure. The guy working on me ask me if they discussed it while I was at the end of a painful procedure.said it could cost 100$. U spend that at a gas station now . I was warned but I had no idea to the degree that Dr appointment would go so wrong. No the procedure did not help . At all! I ask f it was any better than it was 25 years ago and they told me yes . If you are serious about managing your pain, stay away from Commonwealth Pain Management of Lexington. They started with an ablation on me that lasted a week. I provided feedback, then put on ignore for weeks. After weeks they finally called to schedule trigger point injections, for a few more weeks away, only to call me back again to cancel and wanted to schedule it for the 28th of March. I told them they could cancel everything and I would not be back there. They called again last week to schedule, and I did not schedule a new appointment. Today I received a call saying I missed an appointment last week. Again, I did not schedule an appointment, nor do I plan on returning to a business that is not focused on my healthcare. I have the same or worse pain level with my neck today as I did months ago when I started dealing with Commonwealth. I was sent to Commonwealth by the Veterans Hospital in Louisville, for community care. I will advise VA Community Care of this situation. read more

I've been coming here for quite a while and have seen a few changes for the better. Seeing some improvement in the appointment protocol and some of suggestions I made were listened to. When I was there before just the way a patient was treated from the waiting room to the examination room was horrible, no basic courtesy like being told where you were going , simply being told what exam room or stopping for a sample in the bathroom. I also had a couple of miserable appointments where I asked the nurse something simple and she answered ' I don't care ' which is a very bad response to anyone who is in PAIN. Fortunately they are better, but I don't know a pain specialist who is really interested, good or willing to try something different. But I think that a lot of it is because of the insurance companies not approving anything else but standard treatment and not entirely understanding how really miserable someone is after the trauma of bone, muscle, ligament and fascia damage. Not every injury is improved by the same protocol and it's no wonder chronic pain is a very unfortunate diagnosis read more

Do you like living in pain? If so, come to this place, they won't/can't fix diddly squat. The staff are unprofessional, always literally having a laugh at patient's expense and behind their backs in the recovery room--we can see you laughing morons. They don't care about making people wait up to two hours for an appointment. You will be recommended with procedures that will never work under the guise of 'maybe'. Went here for relief from injuries from a motorcycle accident. Staff was mostly courteous and the Dr was friendly and seemed caring. On my first visit the nurse was asking me questions in the exam room. I told her I've had 17 or 18 surgeries in multiple areas in the past two years she stopped me to tell me that someone had called them and told them Ive only had 16 surgeries and only on my leg. I was literally sitting there left arm in a sling from just having had surgery on my left shoulder to replace a severed acl with a cadaver ligament. Not to mention the 7 surgeries on my side to fix 6 broken ribs and a punctured collapsed herniated left lung. They wanted to give me a neurostimulator implant but first had to get a nerve block shot in my hip to see if it gave any relief first. If not the neurostimulator wouldn't work and told me if if didn't help they would try other options. Got the shot it gave no relief from the pain but did ease the numb tingling sensation in multiple areas. Returned a couple weeks later for followup. Was seen not by the doctor but someone named Steve. I told him the shot provided zero relief from the pain. He explains to me that for them to be able to give me the neurostimulator I need to say I am getting at least 50% relief from the shot for my insurance to cover it. I said again I'm getting zero relief. He proceeds again to coach me to say I'm getting 50% relief so my insurance will pay for the neurostimulator implant and if not there's nothing else they will do for me, he then escorted me out of the room and that was it. All over their waiting room the hallways and exam rooms are adverts and literature for Abbott, the company that makes the neurostimulator. I should have realized what I was walking into. Seems they're just pushing the nerve block shots and neurostimulators to make money off insurance companies while not actually helping some of their patients. Pretty obvious they will only help you if you help them bilk your insurance. read more

After my 2nd back shot, the lidocaine wore off and the pain is some of the worst I've felt. Repeated calls to the office, line disconnection and promises of a call back I was told they would discuss other treatments at my follow up in a month. This is not care, it is cruel. Mike Willis read more

They expect elderly people to do a virtual appointment. Upon discovering that the person cannot do the virtual appointment, they schedule an in person appointment two and a half months away!!! The person has to go without pain meds the entire two and half months!!!! This is pain management????? read more

It was a weird experience but I'll go for it. I was living in nyc when I fell at my place of work and ended up really hurting myself. I wasn't allowed to work, specialists found me totally temporarily disabled months after months. It was always a toss up between if it was more of a back or hip issue but something was wrong with both, it was more about find where the pain was coming from to correct it. After months of the same physical evaluation of disability, I finally gave in to my mom telling me I should probably come home so she could help take care of me and my dog and cat. Reluctantly, I gave up everything I fought for for years and made the trip back. With that came new challenges, new doctors, finding insurance, etc. I started with UK hospital during a bad pain episode and was admitted. They prescribed meds for me to leave on. I don't have a PCP yet and it's months to see one. I'm in a bedroom pretty much 24/7 all of the time. There's a set of stairs to leave my room and it's far too much pain. I didn't have stairs in nyc to deal with. Anyway, my mom, two days after my return home have excruciating pains and doctors were thinking a total hip and sent her here to commonwealth pain and spine. We are a team through this and I went with her (plus I needed to see the outside world) and she and I liked commonwealth and Dr. Milburn. Because of that I told UK I'd like to go there. I had already spoken with their receptionist and she had me send emails with MRI's (not all of them but they weren't asked for) and I also sent a neurologist for the back who had provided one of the many disability letters over the prior months to show it was serious. My pain is aching constantly but when it gets into a fit, it's really really bad. To my surprise, after the referral from a doctor, my mom and I called commonwealth to see the update on things. We were simply told, "the doctor has nothing to offer you." We thought that was wild. Especially since my mom had no problem getting in with a referral. She has worked in medicine for over 25 years and couldn't believe that answer so we called back to get, "because of your age and medications, they have nothing to offer you. That's what the doctor told me." So what UK prescribed me, and because I'm 31, I am not valid to be seen? I have been struggling with pain for months now. My whole life has been ripped away from me. I went from lifting weights and working out 5-6 days a week, working a full time career, being around friends, to nothing, and you want to go violating HIPAA discriminating against my age? My mother also had medications prescribed to her when she went? But I suppose because she's older there's no issue? My life was uprooted and I really thought I could count on a doctor to see me. A referral isn't put in for no reason. Thanks for nothing. I guess HIPAA means absolutely nothing anymore. This place will discriminate. Don't say I didn't warn you. I knew Kentucky would be a little outdated compared to what I'm used to but I didn't know it was still this bad. read more

I can't give lower than one star. I was a new patient, i had my initial appointment for assessment, and to come up with a treatment plan, they were to schedule for Cortizone shots and we're going to submit a pre-authorization to my insurance company. After two weeks, I called to check on the status of the pre-authorization, they informed me that they hadn't sent it in yet after two weeks. I waited another week or so to check and see if they had sent it in. I called them constantly for about three days and never got anyone to answer the phone. I finally called my insurance company to see if they had sent in the pre-authorization which they had not my insurance company called to confirm and they were informed that THEY FORGOT !to send in a pre-authorization. They even had the nerve to tell that to my insurance company. they wouldn't even expedite the pre-authorization so I could get in to the office for treatment. I don't know what the experience has been for anyone else, but as for me, I will never go back there. read more

I am going to provide all the facts here for patients that are suffering from pain. I am 33 years old and have gone through so much suffering of back pain since March 2023. I had a DRG stimulator put in for knee pain due to an accident and right after the surgery I experienced the worst low back pain of my life! I highly suggest to not have this stimulator put in unless you want to suffer from other problems that you didn't have before. Shawn Milburn, MD took great care of me up until after I had the DRG stimulator put in. After, I had the permanent placement done he stopped treating me with care like before. I had a diagnostic nerve block done today 8/29/23 for my low back and asked if he was going to be doing anything for my pain in the meantime until he found out the root cause of the pain. I was made to feel and look like an addict and was told that due to my age he doesn't prescribe opioids. Fine I respect that but then why was I ever prescribed them for my leg?! I had just moved to Lexington, had fallen out of a chair with a history of four back operations, requested an appointment, told the Dr had to approve my condition and approve treatment that he was quick and would let me know in the afternoon, no one called, I was in intense pain waiting on them, finally I had to go to emergency room for relief, which was helpful. I called Commonwealth the next morning and was told the Doctor approved treatment that afternoon which no one called or text. The next available appointment was the 9 more days, here I am with a level 8 pain cannot walk without pain and their evaluation was an apt in 9 days. Absolutely unbelievable the no concern for someone with pain back which they are supposed to be experts in treatment/care. Never have I experienced this uncaring in the medical practice, I can only hope all those involved will get a chance to experience the same pain. Just astonished, looks like will be going back to the Emergency Room and hope I can find a read professional medical caring Doctor & Office. My Son is a Physician and if I find out he treats people like this I will whip him into next week. This can't be a Kentucky thing, I have met so many caring nice people here.
