I love NFCU with with a passion. How is this possible? Aren't financial institutions things to put…read moreup with, not t love? That's what I used to think. Before I became an NFCU member. Here are the reasons I love it: 1. FREE ATMS anywhere I go. I live in Los Angeles, but never pay ATM fees. Anywhere. Why? NFCU refunds ALL my ATM fees at the end of the month. There ARE three conditions: you have to a) use direct deposit b) log on to your account at least once a month, and c) use your debit card to make purchases at least least 10 times. But these are no burden, and things I do anyway. 2. I EARN INTEREST every month on my checking account. Currently, it's paying APR 2%, but this varies based on prevailing rates. When I first signed up, I was getting 5%. Considering that some banks charge YOU fees for maintaining a checking account, this is awesome. 3. I'm putting my money in a MEMBER-OWNED, NON-PROFIT financial institution, instead of in one of the profit-hogging, fraudulent, "too-big-to-fail" financial behemoths that caused the country's ongoing financial crisis. 4. When I call CUSTOMER SERVICE, I'm immediately talking to someone sitting in an NFCU office in Watertown, and she stays with me until my problem is solved. She doesn't read a script. She doesn't transfer me to additional people. She might put me on hold while she goes to talk to someone else about my problem, but then she comes back, and she solves it. To join the credit union, you have to "live, work, or worship" in Jefferson, Lewis, or St. Lawrence Counties, OR be an immediate family member of someone who is already a member. I grew up in Jefferson county, but didn't join until I moved away. I was able to join since my dad is a member. Once you're a member, it's for life. There are also a full range of other financial services available -- personal loans, etc., which I haven't yet used. But I think their rates on those services are probably unbeatable. Join a credit union! Join any credit union you're eligible for! But if you're eligible for NFCU, no matter where you live, you're absolutely crazy not to join.

I can't say enough nice things about this bank's branch manager Scott. I had a hacker get access to…read moremy debit card and they stole $2000 out of my account through PayPal. I went in and talked to Scott and he actually cared unlike the Carthage branch workers. He took time to open up a new account for me and tried to get me a line of credit while my money in my account was tied up. He put thru to the fraud department a 48 hour hardship so I got my money back in around 3 days. Scott really went above and beyond to try to help me, the little guy. I will forever be grateful as I was very upset and stressed cause I had no other money to live on while the fraud team investigated.

How difficult is it to give customers a receipt with correct information and amounts. It's not. Do right by customers and don't give them incorrect information or input incorrect information on any documents. That's disrespectful. How difficult is it to type capital letters. The new management is sub par at best…read more I've had issues with checks being mailed to the wrong address, and was called back with "you verified the address on the checks", the checks were right, they just were mailed to the wrong place. I've $1050 randomly missing from my account that was corrected and brushed off as a "clerical error", and half the time I call I get this.

This bank is a complete joke. They financed our Auto Loan for us at an admittedly fantastic rate…read more However, when it comes to actually managing an account, this bank comes in last place. They only process your transactions on Mondays and Wednesdays and it sometimes takes them a week or more for their decrepit computer system to process the transaction. They have no ATM's in their localities so you are unable to check your account balance on weekends or after 4pm. When you go in to ask what your balance is you are greeted by rolled eyes and attitude as to your "irresponsibility" with your account. At one point my fiancé was called to be informed that her account was overdrawn the DAY after she had gone in to get her account balance after pending transactions. Then she was given attitude by the assistant manager of the branch. And when my fiancé defended herself the assistant manager actually told her she could give her attitude because of the way my fiancé was talking to her. No one is in a good mood when they find out they owe someone money especially when they just checked the previous day to be in the clear. Not only was the assistant manager nasty she actually advised my fiancé to refinance her auto loan at another bank because she could not deal with her attitude. Are you serious? If you can't handle a little anger and attitude I suggest you don't work in finance. To sum this up, this bank is grotesquely out of date as to modern banking standards, their customer service is sub par, if it's an inconvenience to give a member their bank ledger than don't work at a bank. And their willingness to throw members away at the slightest disagreement shows that they have no ability to handle people's money. Because it's their livelihood and everyone is going to be hostile about their income. All in all, if you can avoid it, don't bank here.
