This is a thrift store located in the historic Flamingo Plaza. Community Family Thrift is a chain of thrift stores that was started in 1985. They have locations in Boca Raton, North Miami, and this one in Hialeah. They also own La Lu Thrift Boutiques in Margate and Boca Raton. This thrift store carries neatly organized by color clothing, sporting goods, electronics, and a pretty large selection of furniture. As I was wandering around I was warmly greeted and asked if I needed any help. They have an exporting division for wholesalers who want to ship out of Miami to Haiti, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Guatemala, Mexico, and Honduras. They accept donations of gently used items. According to their website they partner with a group called Networking to Help Children who from what I gather, supports other charities that are holding events with money, volunteers, and donations. Used to be a great store for many years and frequented regularly. In the past 6 months something happened and it's not good. Poor selection, higher prices, less discounts offered and furniture in many aisles blocking customers from reaching the racks. It is a disaster! I skip this store now and only frequent their competitor in the same mall, Red White Blue! read more

My favorite thrift shop in the entire plaza! They all are welcoming from the time you enter until the time you leave! I don't feel like someone is WATCHING me like the others nearby, but more so READY to help if you're looking curious about something or it's price ! They have some nice stuff. Somewhat high prices on their vintage items, in my opinion. I bought these cute little dolls, made in Germany. They had written the price, in sharpie, on each doll's ARM! The doll is rubber, so it's almost impossible to remove. The cashier told me alcohol would work. To all the thrift store managers out there, it does nothing. Another cashier suggested magic eraser, it doesn't work. I tried acetone. Bleach. Toothpaste. Please do not destroy precious vintage items with sharpie!!! To be fair to this store, they are not the only ones who have done this. read more

Ode to a thrift store.... haha. Jk. This has to be the daddy of thrift stores if you're looking for good furniture! I came in yesterday in impulse as I normally do, not knowing what I'd find if anything at all. But why not give it a whirl ? As you step into the store you see the sofas and seating to the right, racks upon racks of clothes to the left, and furniture and home things somewhere in between. Many things here are priced to sell and can be negotiated a bit lower if buying a few things (from what I overheard). I'm not a very good haggler so I don't know how that works. So I tell you that organization isn't the strong suit at thrift stores, but price is! They will not deliver or hold anything for you overnight, so be sure that you have a plan the day of to snap up your item because if you leave and return the odds are that the piece you loved is long gone too ! That being said there's a few people who work delivering items for a few that you can ask the employees about and they will definitely point you in the right direction. Happy thrifting! read more

Today there were some slim pickin's .. I really had been hoping to find one of those diamond in the rough deals. Once we found an adorable vintage wool coat with 3/4 sleeves and a mink collar for a whopping $10! You have to come here with the time to really be able to sort through the myriad of clothes.. this place is huge! I did find that the prices for used clothing were a little high. ($15 for a used dress?) Still there are some pretty cool deals. read more

While researching things to do in Miami I happened upon a small blurb about Flamingo Plaza - a strip mall with SEVEN thrift stores! I thought it was too good to be true (and really, it pretty much was as the majority of places were hardly thrift stores...) but we got a decent amount of stuff. Community Thrift was by far the nicest, largest, and best priced of the seven. It's your standard thrift store, certain color tags are half off, lots of crap to dig though. Coming from Chicago, it was amazing finding a rack of beautiful 1970s winter jackets prime for the taking. Not too much filler and not that picked over. The owner even gave us the gossip about the thrift scene in Miami (stay away from Red, White & Blue basically... and boy was he right!). Mainly clothes, we had to go down to New York thrift to get a suitcase to get all of this stuff back home because they didn't sell them there. I'll be back next time! read more

Community thrift used to be a good thrift store with excellent prices and variety under past management but under the new management prices are ridiculous. The new manager is nasty and rude and I hate going in there. Occasionally there are some interesting finds on furniture but the prices on bric-a-brac and art have sored. I still go in to browse when I am at the shopping center but rarely buy anything anymore. read more

In New York City, thrift stores are often code for vintage. A lot of the prices are expensive, based on brand name. It's a bit annoying, and one of the main reasons I wait until I'm in Hialeah to thrift shop. This time at Community Family, I didn't find anything I wanted. However my girlfriend found a handmade, cute brown dress from the 60s. And it was like five bucks. Was this totally random? Yes. Should you expect to find something similar when you shop there? I just went here today, and it was a huge mistake. Everything is overpriced. Found a doll new in box for the normal retail price. Not a "good deal" at all. I have been coming here for over a year now, its one of those stores that I never really cared for but I would pull myself into, because you never know. The shopping experience was never great; a big mess of disorganized stuff and rude staff. I would find something from time to time, but overall was not wowed by this store. That was until today...The owners son has taken over, the store is a lot cleaner, organized and friendly staff. Amazing finds too, great furniture, designer clothes, and art. Totally have loved this store for a long time. The workers have always been wonderful! Julio, Jr. etc. the best! Helpful, honest & super friendly. I donate truck loads every time I go there! I donate estate items and they became my favorite donation site. Yes, it needed to be cleaned up! Prices? All of a sudden it turned into Neiman Marcus. I donated items this morning and was stunned to see that things I donated last week were priced from $10.00 to $150.00! The place is cleaned up but the people that made the place are gone!!!!! I'd rather have a mess... This is supposed to be a thrift store to help everyone. Will I donate or shop there again? I don't think that I'll waste my gas! At least not until they wise up. read more
