Lot of bad stuff in these reviews, and that reputation certainly made me concerned when I had no choice but to go to Community First with a 3 AM medical emergency. And yeah, the building is pretty old, and it's clear the ER has been through some shit...but the service from the night time staff was incredible. Dedicated, committed, working with what they have...these young people saved my ass and treated me very well, despite being berated by abusive drunks and dealing with some pretty crazy stuff. My husband has gone to the ER in this hospital twice. They were really attentive. In both cases they determined that he needed to stay. It took a little while for him to get a room, but they made sure he was comfortable while he was waiting. They also determined that he needed to go to rehab in the hospital due to balance issues. Their rehab facility is great. I am so impressed with his medical care. In rehab, all the staff were really great. It's an older hospital, but I am very satisfied with the level of care my husband received. read more

This is the only Hospital I see that all the nurses, staff and even the front desk just love to talk like it's high school. I understand with talking no problem but to be talking and not paying attention to visitors and patients is crazy. They looked at me as if I was interrupting them and that's not how it should be. They're here to serve my family and others. My father and grandmother were both in the hospital and on different floors and both floors were exactly the same. I get the nurses have other patients to attend too but to not get any help even with the call button for over an hour is crazy, if it was an ASAP emergency they would have died. My grandmas pills were never given on time either and that is what is wild for me. The food is overly salty and never check what the patients preferences, even if they have an allergy. If this hospital wasn't close to my house, I would have the ambulance bring them somewhere else I would recommend the hospital on Talcott. Whoever runs this hospital and the employees there DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT THAT CHECK!! THE DOCTORS ARE AWESOME JUST WANTED TO MAKE THAT CLEAR! If I could give this place (I won't even call it a hospital) negative stars I would. It's filthy, hot, old and everything is in disrepair. The nurses, at least the ones I dealt with are mean and have no business being in the medical profession. I kept begging for water and everyone EVERYONE kept walking by and completely ignored me. I was brought here by ambulance as an emergency case after being physically assaulted; I am suffering from pain in my chest, back, and neck, as well as cardiac pain and difficulty breathing. This hospital expelled me to the waiting area without any justification. When I questioned them, they responded with utter rudeness, stating simply that this is an emergency room. I told them that I would not tolerate such negligence toward a patient. They instructed me to go to the registration desk in the waiting area to provide my insurance details--and to wait. The registration clerk informed me as a ( threat ) that if I did not comply, would be denied treatment and my condition would not be attended to. Regrettably, I did not receive the necessary care. I did not see the doctor at all. I did not get blood test. I did not get hurt (stress) test. I was completely more than three hours of the waiting area out of the emergency room. The city's health authority must launch a full investigation into this hospital regarding negligence and the exploitation of patient information through fraudulent care. read more

I would not even feed that to my dog, especially to social worker when it's about time to be released and you see your howering over you, to try to get out as fast as you can. But if you have a problem, you cannot find Her she disappears. So apparently I have no idea why she has this job, she is worthless. So like I said, if you don't treasure your life and you want to get caught up with some infection, come here, I'd be more than glad to do that for you. And when I mean, they don't come until 45 minutes later, I was choking, I had to go to the bathroom to get a drink of water, and they were all Set an alarm at the desk, laughing and playing and not answering a call button. Mom went in for leg pain. They gave her morphine in the emergency room. Why would you give a 93 yr old morphine before trying lesser things to reduce the pain. Like the patch she eventually received the next day. Mom's condition started to deteriorate as she became dehydrated the next day. The hospital doctor hadn't seen her and they couldn't put an iv without the doctor seeing her. The nurse tried calling and doctor yelled and hung up on the nurse. It was mid day. Mom had been transferred the night before. The doctor came in and told me if I didn't like it there it was my right to remove her. I explained I was in the process of talking to my insurance company and figuring out how to transport her to another hospital. Next thing you know mom was put on an IV within a few minutes. This hospital had very kind nurses and assistants but the actual hospital is dirty. The doctor did not exercise the minimal amount of care to put my mom on an IV. We told them she couldn't have sugar. I was told each meal that they would put it on record. Each meal had sugar. The pictures you see show her last tray which should not have sugar. And the ER catheter that was removed when she arrived to the room with dirty socks next to them. No one removed this the whole time she was there. And if all of this is not bad enough, they do not use wipes to clean patients when they use the bathroom. They use towels. read more

This hospital, this is what nightmares are made of. I was lucky to have moved out of Belmont Craigan area. It was summer of 2018, I have panic attacks. Shortly after ditching a bad room mate I had multiple fraudulent items on my medical record. Because my ex decided that he would use my name to commit medical insurance fraud, soooo I ended up with a false bipolar disorder diagnosis on my record. Never saw a psychiatrist. Never been on bipolar medicines you'd think that would be an instant red flag for fraud. CFMC didn't care. I was brought there by CFD for panic attack treatment. They started a way too large trauma line IV line. I have cerebral palsy, of course it made my spasticity go nuts and I was in more needless pain because I already have chronic back pain and pain attacks make my spasms worse. Here I got blood drawn then they switched be from a single patient room to a room with three other psych patients some clearly psychiatrically disturbed. And I was disturbed. One man kept standing up and flashing everyone his gonads. Meanwhile I sat there with the only nurse call button in the whole room in my hand. Apparently I was the rooms security guard, hitting that button was my only solace and the nurses were somewhat rude but at least controlled the psycho patients. It gets worse. They look at my record for two seconds and say "bipolar? We're sending you out to another hospital for inpatient treatment" All I needed was IV Ativan, instead I didn't get that until I was at the other hospital with far worse symptoms. It was hot and uncomfortable in the hospital. Apparently they don't use central AC. They use portable machines, everywhere. Avoid this place like plague, they will try to kill you at this hospital. Illinois state needs to yank the operating license and demolish the place. This place is truly haunting to just drive past. And I've been around sanitaria that people claim are truly haunted from the Tuberculosis pandemic. This place makes the TB wards seem like beautiful places. A true hazardous dump. Make sure you have a strong lawyer / patient advocate because you'll need to lean on them to get out of this place alive. read more

Definitely the worst hospital I've been to... The EMT guys were rude, the triage nurse thought I was faking it, yeah B, like having 5 hrs of abdominal pain and (a ruptured appendix). Very slow process, rude nurses, the type of doctors/care you get depends on your insurance coverage... and even if you' in extensive Care it could be 10-15 just to get a nurse's attention... We have a case against the Hospital in Administrative Hearings. We just completed a re-inspection of the elevators on Tuesday April 2nd. Hate this place, they took my dad their in an ambulance wanted to take him out of there immediately but since he had a stroke they wouldn't let me. The emergency nurse was writing things down on a papertowel and called the surgeon. They did not administer the medicine to help reduce the clot, which probably would have helped him but the surgeon came in and not knowing anything we opted for surgery. I went here for rehab and all equipment is broken. Very minimal equipment available. Most is broken when they cleaned your body and wiped your butt they use towels, regular towels that were thrown in a bag to wash. Hazardous waste throw away the staff there were a few good nurses and CNA's but the lead nurse on the floor that I was on today Molina, rude as shit. I went there for rehab for a stroke. I should've been able to go somewhere else, the level of rudeness and arrogance of some of the Staff were unbelievable. Don't get me started on the TVs 38 channel only to work. There's a problem with the sound and everybody's orange. I was told by one of the nurses that I was a fortunate patient because I had two channels that actually worked all the other channels Were worthless. On 1/22/23 I spoke to my wife she had informed me she was pressing the call button on the bed cause she was cold in the ICU and had soiled herself. Come to find out the call button the beds do not work. she was yelling for a nurse and pressing the call button but nothing happened. I had to call and get in their asses about my wife being cold all night and laying in her own S&!t. All they did was apologize. 1/23/23 they moved her to the 3rd floor and this floor does not have A/C. Mind you it's mid JULY !!! So what do we have ladies and gentlemen, we have a fan and 3 portable A/C units to cool the whole floor. There is no hot water in the building they warm up water in the microwave and bring it to you... I'm TELLING YOU !!!! AVOID coming here and BRINGING YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HERE.... The waiting room is disgusting. I arrived at about 4 am there were 8+ homeless drunk men sleeping across the seats in the waiting room leaving no where for actual sick patients to sit. The waiting room smelled like urine and alcohol. The staff doesn't seem to care about anything going on outside of their personal chatter and laughter behind the desk. The restroom was unable to use there was urine and feces on the toilet and floors. This place needs serious attention. read more

Update on my previous review. It's even worse than the previous one. They kept sending me bills and never answered any of my phone calls. Finally someone responded to my email saying than the bill is correct and that I own them what I own them. No claim was ever submitted to my insurance! After months of fight, I received a real bill, that was a half of the half of the previous one! Why? I am sitting in the waiting room right now since the ambulance brought my grandfather here due to proximity to our house. I asked for my mother, who'd just arrived to be buzzed in to see her father. When the receptionist buzzed her in, some nasty woman (maybe a triage nurse) said that only one visitor was allowed in the back and she would let us in "in a few minutes." Well, there were ZERO visitors with my grandfather which is why I was telling my mom which direction to go in. This woman walked away and after a few minutes, I realized she wasn't coming back. I asked again for my mother to be buzzed in and my mom went in to see her dad. This is just one example of how nasty people here are. When my father was admitted to the emergency room in 2018, he ended up being diagnosed with cancer and was sent upstairs. He was given literal weeks to live by the doctors who saw him, but my mom had him transferred to University of Chicago, then Lutheran General where they extended his life by another year and two months. The doctors here at Community First misdiagnosed him and only offered palliative or hospice care. SPARE YOURSELVES. Save your life by going elsewhere. read more

A fellow worker was transported after being a victim of a hit and run motor accident. The facilities were not well kept. There were people sleeping across all the seats which made it hard to sit in a crowded waiting room. No security was present. The staff was not helpful and unable to provide info as we waited 3.5 hours after taking x-rays and a total of 5 hours. There is nothing I can recommend for this hospital. read more

It's a shame that this is our community hospital that we are stuck with. Major patient safety concerns in terms of staffing. Majorly understaffed. Patients who should be admitted are being kept in the ED, the ED is not a medical surgical or ICU unit and shouldn't be treated as such. Broken side rails, old food trays. Staff are nice and are trying their best under these conditions. Yet if someone is not there with a patient that can't advocate for themselves things can get hairy and go down a spiral for the worst patient outcome. Things need to change. Please consider in reporting any issues to Joint commision/OSHA and or IDPH as the Administration is not doing anything the more complaints they receive change will occur. read more

6" pile of blood out in open for 45 min within 2 feet of the emergency room patient exit. It was their for over 45 minutes and the janitor walked past it 3x. I was even told to walk around it. The janitor began to mop all of the blood around the waiting room. This is a hospital and it's completely disgusting to have an exposed pool of blood for that amount of time in the emergency room and not have proper training on the removal of such biohazard waste. Security was notified and he told the patients to stop recording as they were saying it was against osha policies.
