I made it there approximately 9:30 a.m. The process of checking in with the staff was very professional, progressive, and comforting. Let me introduce Dr. Avery Thau Md. to you (IMAGINE). I set in a dark room less than 10 feet away from where Dr. Thau Md. was. No magazines, books, music, tv, anything from 10:30 a.m. til 11:13 a.m. Not one time did Dr. Thau Md. acknowledge my presence. For instance..."I'm running a little late I will be with you in a minute" Is everything okay do you need anything? etc. My experience concerning unforseen issues relates to proper communication/etiquette. Secondly, I was told if I am late or no show that there will be a fine or penalty. Seems like a double standard huh? I never knew this because I am always early until one time my transportation was in stall. Lets also be very clear...imagine for a minute ...don't pass this. IN THE DARK LITERALLY from 10:30 a.m thru 11:13 a.m. I can imagine many things so lets began with racial profiling, discrimination, prejudice/bias, politically sustained. Because he did not learn that in medical school. The top of the list in school concerns humanity, confidentiality, objectivity, and respect for all man kind. This is the behavior of someone apart of a hidden cult. An institute of hierarchies who exude power and control over the less fortunate. She got the job done at a reasonable price and sent me on my way - no issues there. Recently, I went in for an appointment because I have been experiencing excruciating back pain. The staff, while not particularly nice on the phone, are quite friendly in-person. They were helpful in answering any questions I had. This time I met with Dr. Forys, and I was incredibly uncomfortable and upset with my visit. Dr. Forys was very abrasive, frequently cutting me off when he was asking me about my symptoms and whether I have been seeing any other specialists about this issue. I mentioned to him that I have been seeing a chiropractor and that said chiropractor said that perhaps I should get an x-ray if my symptoms don't subside. I was trying to get to the point that I individually decided to see a doctor and get a medical opinion about my issue (rather than relying on a chiropractor), when Dr. Forys just LOST IT on me. He reprimanded me, saying that he's not the chiropractor's personal assistant and he's not just going to give me a referral for an x-ray because someone else said so, and he said that I can't have multiple treatment plans at the same time. Frankly, I didn't consider visiting a walk-in chiropractic clinic once a week any sort of "treatment plan" - I've just been going to get an adjustment, hoping I'll feel better. I was visiting Dr. Forys specifically because I wanted HIS medical opinion, not because I was relying on that of someone else. (Also, as a side-note, we started our appointment speaking Polish. The angrier he got, the more he started switching to English. I gave him no indication that I speak English beforehand. It made me feel like he was purposely switching languages to intimidate me into just sitting there and letting him make me feel bad.) I've been really vulnerable because of my back issues, and I honestly felt like crying at that point. Here I was, trying to see an actual doctor to help me and sharing with him all information I found pertinent, and he was yelling at me. (I'm fine with his disdain for chiropractors and that he prefers that his patients don't see them - but that doesn't entitle him to treat me the way he did.) He proceeded to tell me that he doesn't like chiropractors and that they are "business men," implying that they're really just out to get people's money. Ironically, he recommended that I get 4-6 different blood lab tests just minutes later. I still don't understand how those tests were supposed to help treat my back pain. Ultimately, he referred me out to another doctor because he didn't know how to help me. He told me to come back after I've visited his referral. Again, not sure why. Needless to say, the last thing that I want when I'm in pain and I really need help is to be patronized and reprimanded by a doctor who is supposed to help me.

They told me to remain in waiting room. After about 25 minutes I asked the guy at the front desk when I can go back with him to make sure my son was telling the doctor about his symptoms. I did not want to leave there, get in the car, only to find out the doctor only knew about a few things and be back the next day having to pay another co-pay. I always tell my son I am glad to step out and he knows it will not hurt my feelings. He always asks for me to stay. I waited 40 minutes and no one was coming to get me, I asked the guy at the front desk who was obviously working another job assisting people on how to fix their computer and was not that interested in helping me, if he could ask my son if he wanted me to come back there. I had to get kind of aggravated to find out if he was ok and to insist that they ask my son if he wants me to join him. They finally let me back there but the doctor/ nurse practitioner (don't know) acted all tough and said he is 18. I said I understand that and I am glad to step out of the room but just want to make sure she has the full picture. My son of course said I could remain. I asked the practitioner why she didn't ask him if he wanted me with him and just assumed because he was 18 that he should be on his own. She doesn't know him. Not all kids are alike. Sure enough he didn't tell her some pretty important info. Given what he is complaining of. My issue is this, not all 18 year olds are alike. Give them agency of course and ask parents to leave the room to talk alone, but to not allow me in the room initially to help him describe how he had been feeling and not even to ask him whether he wants me there is not very thorough, professional, or safe even. If I brought my husband to the doctor with me, would they have told him he couldn't join? No, I would have been asked and/or of course he could have come with me straight away. I take my elderly parents to the doctor and never have they told me to stay in the waiting room. This was all unnecessary, made me worried about my son, not even consulting with me and leaving me in the waiting room for so long. Finally they told me he was coming out soon and I was like "no" I need to speak with the doctor just to make sure she knows everything. I feel like my son's best health needs were less important to her than keeping a parent out of an 18 year olds appointment. I did not appreciate being treated this way and feel that by not checking with my son to see if he wanted another person with him, she was not giving him an option that other adults have. He didn't say anything because he just thought it was the way it had to be because the doctor said so. In this instance, by not asking him what he wanted she was actually infringing on his rights. While I am sure not intentional, this was the worst experience I have had with a healthcare facility in my life. Never have I felt more unheard or disrespected. She put him at risk by not being thorough and having all the needed background. If you want to ask the parent to step out to talk to the young adult, by all means do because some young adults may not feel like they are able to ask their parents to leave, but why not get some initial information first? Why keep a parent in the dark for 40-45 minutes worrying. She could have said we are talking with him, doing some tests, and he is FINE. Instead she completely shut me out as if I were an abuser or something. You are asking a person who came with a parent, while sick , and only 18 years old and 1 month to be by himself in a doctors office when he never before has done this. With his PCP, for the past year or so or whenever the doctor deemed necessary, I have been asked to be present at the beginning and then leave and then I get called back if needed. He always asks him while I am not there if he wants me to join them again. This should be standard best practice. Not all families or young adults are the same. This practitioner needs some training in this area. This was unnecessary and I would never recommend this facility to anyone from the guy at the front desk too busy with his own stuff to the practitioner who thinks she is "protecting" my son. I just hope that he continues to feel better and that she didn't miss anything due to this. Very disappointing!
