Today I contacted Community Health Choice for the first time by calling the phone number listed on my member ID card, which I recently received. I had several questions and requested a Russian interpreter. The first customer service representative and the interpreter were both very helpful and assisted me with all of my questions. The only remaining issue was updating my email address and phone number so that I could register my own account. At the time, the account contained my husband's email address and phone number. The representative updated my information temporarily and explained that I would need to call another department to have the changes made permanently. She specifically instructed me to explain that the update was only for my account and not for both spouses. I thanked her and asked to be transferred to that department so I could complete the process. After I was transferred, I again requested a Russian interpreter and explained exactly what the first representative had instructed me to say. Unfortunately, the second interpreter did not simply interpret the conversation. Instead, she began asking me additional questions and did not translate what I was saying to the representative. She also started telling me that I had called the wrong department and that I needed to call somewhere else, even though I had been directly transferred there by your representative. I was very surprised and uncomfortable with this interaction. I ended the call because I felt that the interpreter was not properly performing her role. Looking back, I realize I should have requested a different interpreter, but at the time I was shocked by the situation. I would like to provide this feedback so that additional training can be given to Russian interpreters regarding their responsibilities. Interpreters should accurately translate the conversation between the customer and the representative rather than engage in personal discussions or provide their own opinions about where a customer should or should not call. I would also like to express my appreciation for the first interpreter and the first representative, who were both professional, helpful, and patient. I have been 8 years with this insurance paying over $1000/mo and I requested to move my annual from November to June and been denied. Imagine IF this was over a major issue. Then while they have a huge doctor selection MOST of the good rated ones are not taking this insurance. THIS practice to include doctors who dont take community health choice should be investigated. My experience with Community Health Choice during my daughter's mental health crisis was incredibly disappointing and frustrating. Throughout this process, I encountered repeated delays, confusing information, inconsistent answers from representatives, and a lack of urgency regarding mental health treatment. Instead of focusing on helping my daughter recover, I found myself spending hours on phone calls, appeals, and paperwork. At a time when families are already overwhelmed and scared, Community Health Choice made an already difficult situation even more stressful. Mental health care should be treated with the same importance as physical health care. Families should not have to fight this hard to receive answers, continuity of care, and access to the providers their children rely on. I' ve been a community health choice participant since 2022 and have been very pleased with CHC services. I recently went to the ER and was nervous about billing and how much it would cost me. The hospital ran CT, MRI, Echocardiogram and blood. Service from hospital was great. 30 days later the bills came and all were under contract rates. Of course, I had to meet my deductible but everything ran smooth. Thanks CHC for working with providers and taking care of your members. Keep up the good work! read more

I paid my premium, and now I cannot access my online account to get my ID cards. I have not received ID cards in the mail. I have prescriptions waiting to be picked up at the pharmacy that I can't pick up because they need information from my insurance card which I cannot access because Community Health Choice's website does not work. I have called and emailed, and I cannot get a hold of an actual human being. This is totally unacceptable. I now will have to go without my medication because of technical issues with the website and no one answering the phone. I paid for my insurance, and now I can't even use it. Totally ridiculous. I don't like writing bad reviews but I feel I must warn anyone looking for insurance. If you ever need pre-authorization, they simply don't respond even when a doctor marks the order URGENT! It's so sad because at the end of the day, its is a real person's life at stake and the pre-authorization doctors and pharmacist could care less. It's open enrollment and I'm hoping to find a medical insurance company with much better empathy for it's members. read more

I signed up with this company through the Healthcare.gov Market Place and paid my 1st premium in advance. Six weeks later and 26 days into the plan, I still have not received any plan documents from them. However, they did send me a bill for the 2nd premium after 3 weeks...smh. i went online and tried to register my info online and get an ID card using the info from the billing invoice. After multiple attempts over several hours I could not get their system to accept either of the two Member ID numbers printed on the invoice. Why the invoice has two different Member ID numbers printed on the same page is a mystery to me. So I tried calling them at both the local number and the Toll-free number. After several attempts over 2 hours and going down various rabbit holes only to have the system either abruptly disconnect me or give me a pre-recorded message to just call back. There was not an option to leave a message and I never spoke to a live person. So I started just pressing random options and I managed to get ahold of their pharmacy help line which I was informed is not actually part of Community Health Choice, but the very friendly guy tried to connect me directly to them. Unfortunately, he ended up down the same dead-end rabbit hole and apologized that he couldn't help any further. So I rummaged around their site and found a different contact number for them that turned out to be their sales department. From her tone I think she must be paid on commission and was annoyed that I was taking up her time. She assured me she was going to connect me with a live person to help me, but all she did was connect me to the same rabbit hole. Whatever you do don't sign up with these clowns or you'll regret it like me. ps... Evidently these clowns are new to the Market Place and are more focused on Medicaid, Star and Chip and don't give a damn about their subscribers they just want that Government money any way they can get it. You're better off using BCBS, Ambetter or a regular type carrier that this fly-by-night operation looking to suckle off the government teat and not really help regular subscribers. read more

Literally worst insurance ever. First I called their office no answer, I called multiple different numbers no answer. I was at the doctors and they won't give me the new card to use so i had to pay 210$ of my own money. This business is not concerned with your health. They are just a bunch of moochers of your money. Be very careful about choosing your plan year after year. They make changes that make. a plan from prior year look enticing. And a lot like the year before in pricing. However, when you examine the plan details you find that if you pay less you get less. Moreover, some plans declare that you don't need prior approval. Be very careful, because prior approval is required, especially on the pricier procedures or medication's. Finally, some things are a bit deceptive, so read the plan documentation carefully. read more

They can be a bit stingy with their prior authorizations but in some ways I do appreciate that they are a non profit. The rates are pretty reasonable. There's a new cheaper and more effective drug on the market called Rinvoq that's just as effective as humira in clinical studies but they are fighting on its approval into their formulary. It seems kind of silly since we would all be saving money. On the other hand when you do get ahold of them on the phone they are fairly nice people. Hey community health choice! I noticed that my wife coverage is not updated at CHC despite making the premium payment on December 25th. We are running around asking them to fix the issue at their end. They accepted there is a glitch in their system and will fix it. But due to this glitch I lost the appointments with the Doctors and am unable to get the medicine required for my wife. I hope they update their system urgently. By the way this is the second time they screwed up. They did it in 2020 and again in 2022. read more

Community health choice portal has been down for over a month. Every time I call, they say we know of the problem, and we're trying to fix it. It's been over a month. And now when I call and ask to speak to somebody who knows about what's going on they give me bad attitude and say there's no one else that I can talk to and they know everything that's going on but then give me the same answer we know there's a problem and we don't know when it's gonna be fixed. I wish I could change insurance companies, but unfortunately I can't until the beginning of the year, and even then, all my doctors are on community health, so I guess i'm stuck. This has to be the worst healthcare facility in Houston. My brother was in need of emergency heart surgery. The hospital tried for days to get approval. No one would respond. After a few days the asked me to call as well. I spoke with a customer service representative and explained that their system that automatically forwards the request was down and there was nothing she could do. I was told IT was working on the problem. I asked to speak with a supervisor as I thought there had to be a way to manually approve the request. I was put on hold. When she came back, I was told no supervisor was available for me to speak with. I was upset and scared for my brothers life. I pleaded that there had to be something they could do. She again put me on hold, came back and told me that she could take my number and have someone call me within 24 hours. I pleaded that my brother might not have 24 hrs. She put me on hold again and came back with the same reply, no supervisor available and someone would call me back within 24 hours. I asked if I could speak to the same supervisor that she talks to when she puts me on hold. No reply this time. I never got to speak with anyone and of course no one ever called back to this day. This is almost two months since the hospital decided they could not wait any longer due to my brother's declining condition. The doctors performed emergency heart surgery on my brother and implanted a mechanical heart pump to save his life. I just signed up for insurance through the Marketplace and paid my premium and was TOLD they received payment and that I had an ACTIVE POLICY!!!! They took over two months to get me my insurance card! I must of called them 10 times asking where is my card. Again, major attitude and excuses. I told them I was sick and was waiting on the card to go to the ER! They did not care. As, of today I called to see if my 8 prescriptions were filled at the pharmacy and was told it would be over $200 dollars. I asked if they had applied my insurance and HEB said they called to get authorization and that the insurance company had cancelled me on 2/1/24. I said that cant be!!! After trying several times I got a very rude young lady on the phone whom copped a major attitude. She confirmed I had been cancelled. Mind you I called immediately after paying them and got confirmation off my payment and ACTIVE status!!!! I had to call them about then times to freaking get my insurance card and begged them to send me one almost two months later. They never sent me a cancellation notice and said they did. Yes they verified my correct address! I actually had a week stay last week in the freaking ICU and submitted my insurance and thinking I was covered! To add insult to injury I over-paid them and was just informed today and they never sent the money back!!!!!!!!! read more

2020 is our 5th year with CHC. The first thing I want to say is that some of the problems with health insurance are not down to CHC but the way the ACA was written. For example, balanced billing on ER items. What I like The best coverage for a Marketplace policy in the Houston area. You can use Memorial. The In-Network prices are pretty good. With today's outrageous deductibles (ind $6,750, fam $13,500) you don't buy insurance to be insured...you get it to access the in-network prices. The phone service is better than the competition. No names but I once spent 2 hours on hold with a company just to get thru. Website is pretty good. What I don't like Lack of non-ER coverage outside Houston (say Austin/Dallas/San Antonio), if you have kids at college this is a concern. They still need more providers and choice in many fields They need an iPhone app with map link to in-network providers. CSR are not always as knowledgeable as they should be. HMO's suck....their authorization process needs to be faster. If you are forced to use the Insurance Marketplace in Houston, these are the best. But Americans deserve better. read more

I cancelled the policy and they continued to charge me for 3 months after cancellation. I wrote a google review and they contacted me to supposedly fix the problem. They did not fix anything. Customer service doesn't know anything about the policies, benefits or eligibility. They have access to the same information as us and never have answers for any regarding eligibility and benefits. It's really sad - many times I was told I wouldn't owe anything outside of the copay only to find out I did after the procedure. You get a different answer every time you call and have a diff agent answer. I have asked to talk to some Who would know the answers to my various questions over the years but no they don't have anyone they can transfer me to. I'd like to have one person who I could call and who would have answers. I don't think it's too much to ask since we pay over $1000.00 / month. 11 minutes ago-Edit Update January 2020: Community Health Choice is now removing all payments made to the doctor for the hearing aides my husband has been prescribed. My husband will be calling them today to chat with them. Once again CHC is proving that they are not a trustworthy insurance company to work with. They do not cover the areas they promise to cover (at least as far as hearing aides go) in their insurance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 2019 - Community Health Choice does not have providers for the benefits they claim to provide. My husband has been trying to get hearing aids for the past six months. Community Health Choice finally admits that they don't have a provider for hearing aids and we are being told to wait until they do have a provider. There is nothing to be done about it. Community Health Choice has wasted our time and money. Update. In August 2019 I went to their customer service offices. I spoke with a customer service agent and he gave me a different doctor for my husband to go to. The customer service agent said the doctor had helped another CHC member that was having the same problem as my husband (so we are not alone in how we are being treated). The doctor was great, very helpful and prescribed a set of hearing aids to my husband. However, CHC still will not pay the 85% that is mentioned in our policy with them. They will only pay a flat amount that does not cover even half of the cost for the hearing aids. It is now November 2019, coming ever closer to the end of the year when policies will change and this matter is still not resolved. read more

Absolutely awful experience with CHC. Made my payments 14 days before the due date - I can SEE IT on my bank account. Somehow they cannot find the payment and when I call CHC they say my account doesn't exist and my name isn't in the system "but someone will call me back". Marketplace insured: This insurance company does not notify customers when the payment does not go thru, via email, I have told multiple times to email me notices, my health is in the line and it never happens. I am only notified when my appointments cancel. When doctors call to very, no mention of a grace period is informed to them, all they are told is the insured is payed until October 31st and has not paid...no mention of a grace period at all. This has happened 3 times where my appointment is canceled. I call community and am told the same darn thing. I even spoke to the sign up rep when they called me to renew my benefits. How am I to know my payment did not go thru if im not notified. I am a diabetic type 1 and need to see my specialists. It takes 3 weeks to reschedule them. And that is 3 weeks without a prescription refill. Go somewhere else for benefits, my son got approved for Medicaid and both will consider new insurance providers. read more

Was admitted to hospital because er doctor thought I might be having heart failure. I was there for three days having test done because blood work also showed I might have a blood clot. After being released from hospital and being told not to be in stressful situations I receive a letter from community health choice that they will not pay for my hospital bill because their gynecologist disagrees with the er doctor and heart doctor that I should of even been admitted. Funny how gynecologist has nothing to do with the reasons I was admitted. I barely have enough to pay for my health insurance every month and now they refuse to pay for my medical care. Why do I have health insurance if they are going to disagree with doctors and never pay for anything. read more

Filed a claim for a Covid-19 Test that I had to pay for ($79). Federal law requires insurers to pay it 100% (American Cares Act, American Rescue Plan, Presidential Executive Order 2/26/21); Then the U.S. Government will reimburse them. I filed in August 2021 and now it is October 23, 2021. Heard nothing. Emailed customer service and they claimed they did not get the invoice. I emailed the invoice. They confirmed they had it. Nothing happened. I went down to their offices and talked directly to them. Kenneth confirmed they had the invoice. He contact the Claims Manager Eva Moore who then went on a fantasy trip coming up with one excuse after another as reasons not to pay. I shot down each one. Final decision: It would be paid on Friday at 100%. Two weeks later nothing...nothing in the mail, nothing on the website, no EOB...absolutely no communications about this claim, ever! Worse customer service; worse claims manger ever. I don't know if she is this incompetent or just corrupt. Guess what: Phone customer service agents don't have access to claims information...what!?? I was surprised to see that Community Health Choice had 1.5 stars as I thought that was more than they deserve. Community Health Choice was one of the few options available at healthcare.gov and that was the only reason why I went with them. When I went into my second year with them, there was some confusion on their part about what my monthly premium should have been. When I did not have the funds to pay for the additional $700 more a month that they had requested, my insurance was cutoff. I was told I should have coverage at a hospital for an emergency if I needed it. I could not get coverage for prescriptions nor my physician and I have expensive prescriptions. It took Community Health Choice two months to solve the situation and realize my premiums should have been billed at the lower price. To solve the situation, Community required me to pay the premiums when I had no coverage. Otherwise, they were going to cancel my insurance. You would think the insurance company would have something in place during disputes to protect their clients' health, but they did not care. Am I still using them? Yes, thanks to Obamacare, I still have their insurance. Do I think they care now? No. read more

After waiting more than 8 months, more than 25 phone calls, and 2 appeal requests with no response from Community Health Choice, I found out all you have to do is post a not so pleasant review on Yelp! Within 12 hours of posting my review someone from CHC called my home number BUT left no message, then 3.75 hours later someone posted a response on here stating they missed their mark and if I wanted to speak to them to direct message them with my phone number which we know they have? Ironic to say the least. I have done my part now all I need them to do is their part and pay the ambulance bill that they have repeatedly declined stating it was not medically necessary or pre-authorized. WOW it is amazing how the internet can get a response that a participant who pays an $800 premium per month can't get. This is definitely something to talk about. Please feel free to share my review with your friends and neighbors. I don't wish this situation on anyone. Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of Community Health Choice, you won't be sorry. 6-7-21 PM. I have tried since November 24th, 2020 to sort out this ambulance fee with Community Health Choice. I understand there was a pre-authorization required for this service. On my discharge from St. Luke's Hospital of 9/25/20, I waited in the hospital for many hours for the pre-authorization to be authorized. The discharging nurse spent several hours on the phone with both Acute Medical Services and Community Health Choice to get the ambulance to be dispatched for me. Upon my leaving the ambulance I asked the paramedic Ryan for a document for receipt of the hospital transfer. He stated that he did not have anything to provide to me personally, but they would not have picked me up without insurance. I was immobile; I had incurred a fall that left me with a bad sprain to my right MCL, any pressure placed on my thighs (hamstrings) caused ferocious pains in both legs. I could not walk on my own. If I could have taken a cab, an Uber, or Lyft, I would have done so. The enclosed documents state that I was immobile and confined to the bed, required Skilled Nursing, could not walk, and needed to be moved to a Skilled Nursing facility. I was told by CHC that Acute Medical Services did not get a pre-authorization. No one has provided proof they did not. CHC then advised that Acute Medical could file a "retro-pre-authorization" form. Acute Medical continually advised me that this had been done and provided me the fax number where it had been sent. The fax number is on the CHC website. On 12/15/20 Ref# 194046 I was advised that CHC was trying to locate the documents. A rep advised they had no fax number 713/295-7027 even though it was on the CHC website as the appeals fax number. CHC then provided me a different fax number 713/295-7033 which I provided to Acute Medical Services and they advised they resent the fax to CHC. On 12/23/20 I emailed CHC again to follow up. I received an email response on 12/31/20 advising the retro-appeal form had not been received. However, I called on 1/8/21 Ref# 02029263 and was then told the appeal had been received 12/28/20. I was verbally told I needed to wait 30-45 days for a determination. I was never advised in writing about this appeal if in fact there is a written procedure that is to be followed by CHC, I had not received anything. On 2/9/21, I again emailed CHC to see what the status of the retro-appeal was. I received an email on 2/10/21 stating they would stand by their original determination and not pay the claim for the ambulance service even though I could not walk. The ambulance folks literally sheet-dragged me from the stretcher to the bed. But they do not think the ambulance was medically necessary, I have numerous calls and emails documented other than noted in the above paragraph. I do not feel that my claim has been evaluated fairly nor do I have any proof the Appeal Process was truly performed. I have been an excellent participant with CHC, I have Never paid my premiums late, most are paid exceedingly early. I pay a large monthly premium; I paid the nearly $7000 deductible required in 2020. I do not believe this claim, nor I have been has treated respectfully in the handling of this claim. I will never recommend anyone use this company and I am in marketing. I meet many thousands of folks per year-guess what we discuss? politics and health insurance!! read more

Run away from this company. Selected this insurance company via the healthcare.gov website for my father as his premium for Blue Cross increased to over a grand a month. As of 01/19/2017, my father has yet to receive his insurance member card or able to gain online access to his membership information. CHC pulled a trick on us customers. a Market Place plan Bronze 003 for 2018 and a Bronze 003 for 2019 you would think that it would not suffer major changes in detriment of the customer specially since the premium increased. WITHOUT PREVIOUS NOTICE 2018 prescription cost = copay 2019 Prescription cost= Full retail price everything except few generics. Example: 2018 Insulin $25, 2019 Insulin $ 560 (No generic insulin). read more

I signed up for Communitu Health Choice on 4/26/2022. Police started on 5/1/2022. After looking further into the policy, I was told the $4000 deductible that I was told was my deductible was indeed not $4000. I was informed the deductible was $8,700. Cost of monthly premium was over $300 a month, which I paid in full on 4/26/2022. Community Health Choice was not able to provide me with my insurance card either. I called and canceled the policy on 5/6/2022 and was told I would be refunded the full amount I paid of $308.21. I get a call this morning stating the refund was approved for $254.21, a $54.00 difference. I am disappointed in the fact that Community Health Choice feels the need to keep $54.00 and refund me the full amount. They dropped the ball by not providing me with my ID # or Group # so to give to my primary physician office. I do nit recommend this local company. read more

My husband recently switched to this company and it has been a nightmare. They list doctors on their provider list who are not in truth on network. I made an appointment with my ob-gyn, who was on network with BCBS and appears on their network. When I arrived the office told me they do not accept this insurance. I returned home and checked again the website thinking I made a mistake. The doctor was listed on their provider list. So I called again the doctor's office and the office told me they have been requesting via phone and by letter that their doctors are removed from this list but the company won't. So this time i called the company and told him what happened. The rep on the phone told me not to look at the provider list on the website and instead to call as the list may not be accurate. So, they know they are lying on their website and have no intention of correcting this. read more
