When you are searching for an assisted living or memory care location for your loved one, trust me…read moreNOT ALL are the same and sadly many will promise things they cannot and do not deliver! We are so lucky to have found The Abbey at Westminster Place. While some may say it is too pricy or only consider price when looking that the care is all the same. THAT IS SO FAR FROM WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED PREVIOUSLY!!! The Abbey is worth every penny! So far, I visit my father with a smile each day rather than worrying what "problem" or lack of care I would discover. The Abbey follows follow protocols, are professional and compassionate, are willing to work with family members to address requests or concerns, have safety procedures in place to ensure your loved ones safety, kind staff who truly enjoy working there (that is hard to find), and most of all acknowledges when the ball was dropped and willing to make changes when necessary. Tameka (Wellness Director) truly listens to your concerns and requests and creates a care plan to best assist your loved one. If you a concern, she is quick to investigate and get back to you. Rukayat (AL Director) is truly compassionate and is so kind during her assessment of your loved one. While she needs to do an assessment to recommend the best fit for your loved one, she does NOT demoralize your loved one! Jill and Norma (Activities Directors) put together a wonderful calendar of events that my father truly enjoys! Raquel (Move In Coordinator) assisted me throughout the move in process and followed through after to make sure everything needed was completed. Ashley (front desk receptionist) allows greets me with a smile and ready to answer my questions and get me answers as I learn the ropes. No place is perfect but The Abbey checks so many boxes which were not provided at our previous location. Most of all, both my father and I enjoy just being part of this community! The level of activities and healthy yummy food here at The Abbey is amazing!!! Each activity I have been to, I see the staff engaging with the residents and the staff leading the activity excited to be there and offer this for the residents! My dad's bubbly spirit has returned after moving to The Abbey! The care staff whom I have seen are ready to help you and point you in the right direction if they cannot. They truly enjoy their job and helping their residents! The administration attend many events and know the residents. The are professional and polite. Sadly many assisted living and memory care facilities take advantage of the elderly who are the most vulnerable and silence their voice or twist events and then blame on the residents lack of memory! Remember most of all, no location is perfect but what I have seen in these past weeks, The Abbey at Westminster Place is BY FAR superior and I look forward to attending the activities which truly occur when they are stated and well attended. The residents I have met so far at The Abbey, greet me with a smile and often ask me to join them or sit down and chat with them. They truly look happy. If you are need for an independent, assisted living or memory care facility, please consider contacting The Abbey at Westminster Place. Renee will be happy to give you a tour and answer your questions.

Making the decision to leave your home and go to somewhere that has the environment and amenities…read moreyou need is no small thing. Selecting The Abbey at Westminster in Houston was a wonderful choice for me. Although you may not be in this area, look at the description of this place for comparison wherever u are. There are several layouts here. I chose one bedroom with 1 & 1/2 baths. Closet is huge. Living area while not what I used to have is lovely and ample. Food that is always an issue is wonderful. There are choices for all meals, substitutions are available, special dietary needs are accommodated and Chef will work with anyone. T he only drawback is that you are likely to gain a bit of weight mostly because the desserts are fantastic. One of the things that mattered to me was how to maintain my physical shape at my age. The exercise choices are unbelievable and will suit whatever you need. There is also Hydrotherapy included in the monthly rent. It's rare to have it and helps me so much. You will have to look up what it is. The moving in process has been as good as it can be. Staff have been so accommodating in this very difficult process. Also, must mention that the other residents here have been kind and welcoming. They all seem to relate to how hard it is to make such an enormous change in these later years. Good luck to whoever is reading this. Life can still be good!

Tarrytowne was the second location I looked at and when I walked in the front door, I knew this was it. I call it a cruise ship on land. Beautiful dining hall, well kept grounds, wonderful apartments that are cleaned once a week and paper products are included, along with utilities, and if you want, basic cable! I felt obligated to visit the third location. I checked in for my appointment and took a 10 minute tour and thanked the representative for their time. I immediately went back to Tarrytowne and got the paperwork rolling! We made the deal with my mom to give Tarrytowne a try for 6 months and after that if she wanted to move back to her home of 30 years she could, albeit with modifications. After 3 months she made the decision to sell her home and stay at Tarrytowne. We have all been ecstatic. I just made another visit following Harvey to help my mom clear out her home. I miss the folks there already! The staff pulls triple duty with smiles and understanding. I thank you all!

As the family we have been trying to coordinate with multiple facilities and get care for our loved one. Today we attempted to begin moving the stuff from her apartment (and cannot find the keys to our loved one's vehicle). Charlotte has told us that we have to move the stuff out by 4/22 and wanted her final payment. FURHTER, Charlotte had been allowing a person WHO IS NOT RELATED TO OUR FAMILY to move possessions out of our loved one's apartment WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. Upon our arrival today Charlotte called the police on us and refused to allow us to finish the move (which was on her timeline) and said that we cannot move the property without a signed Power of Attorney. AGAIN, Charlotte has been allowing an unrelated person to gain access and take items out of our loved one's apartment but will not allow LISTED FAMILY to access said apartment to finish moving our loved one's belongings. She also cursed us out and told us that another family member that he should have visited more- that family member lives out of state. She is unprofessional. The staff is unprofessional. Our loved one wanted to move out BECAUSE she said Charlotte was stealing from us. I have also reported them for elderly abuse.

If your loved one doesn't conform then they will not be included in group activities and most often left in their room with the door closed. Most of the hands-on care staff hail from other countries and because of cultural differences do not address residents in s respectful and dignified way; they use overly familiar 'names' like Baby, Daddy and Mama when addressing residents. The facility looks great but make sure your loved one is mobile, independent, passive and quiet otherwise they will not get the help they need.

I am grateful for Lisa - and for the team behind her who helped smooth the path none of us want to be on. Their facility and grounds are warm and welcoming, clean and comfortable, and the staff have demonstrated cheerful care in working with Mom.

My husband was admitted to this facility post open heart surgery. From the first night, his 14 day…read morestay was unpleasant. The first night, he slept on a bed that squeaked when the mattress moved and had a sheet on it that didn't fit so it kept coming off. To top it off, the room's air conditioner wasn't working. It was hot as hell! Maintenance had to come in and blow down the line! WHY WASN'T THIS TAKEN CARE OF BEFOREHAND?!?!?! So of course, our first impression of this place was in the negative BIGLY at this point!! When he arrived, there were NO MEDICATIONS FOR HIM!! He was admitted on a Friday and his medications didn't arrived until SUNDAY!! This caused him to go over 24 hours without medications!! As the days passed by, we both noticed there was a medication that wasn't being given. Ironically, one of the nurses told us that they took that same medication....what?!?! And so we get home with the leftover medications given at discharge and there was ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THAT PARTICULAR MEDICATION!!! There wasn't even a medication card from the pharmacy for that medication!! If he didn't receive medication for 2 days and medication ordered was for a minimum of 14 days and there were at least 2-3 days missed of this medication, there should've been leftovers of this one particular medication, right?!?! There were 2 other medications that the dosage was changed 5 days after his admittance. There was no leftovers of the old dosage....NONE!!!! Then one of those medications had directions from the pharmacy that at least 3 nurses misinterrupted!! It came down to a nurse having to call the pharmacy for clarity!! Now let's talk about discharge..... I spoke with the social worker on Tuesday, May 25th about the process of discharge. Because we lived out of town from Houston, I knew the coordination of medication prescriptions had to be precise. So he told me to get him the pharmacy where we wanted the prescriptions "called in"...we all know that dr's don't call in prescriptions these days...but his words were: if I don't get with you tomorrow (Wed May 26th) you find me!! He told me "as soon as you get me the pharmacy, the prescriptions will be called in". So Wednesday morning, I sat in the main sitting area and finally saw him come out of his office area and HANDED HIM A PIECE OF PAPER WITH: 1) pharmacy 2) request for order for a walker to be sent to the facility bc I knew our home address was out of the range of any equipment business in Houston 3) request for records from my husband's stay bc he's on long term disability and needs those! I knew that as soon as meds were submitted to the pharmacy, I would get a text from the pharmacy. I waited the rest of Wednesday. I waited all day Thursday. Every time I saw the social worker, I'd ask him what the status was. His words were always "I'm taking care of it". And then there's the "hospitality" person...young girl who talked to us like we were teenagers using all of her Gen Z dialogue. Always said she'd take care of things LOL. She's as useless as the social worker. Thursday, husband had a follow up with his surgeon at 9:45am. We didn't get back to the facility until about 12:30 bc of the lengthy appointment. About 30minutes after we got back, social worker comes to our room and tells me he LOST THE PAPER I GAVE HIM!!! I told him I knew he'd do that. He asked why and I said because when I gave it to him, he was with 2 other people and he took it and put it somewhere on his body!! So everything that was written on it was either not done or done incorrectly. The order for the walker had our home address. The equipment business only had our home address so they couldn't fulfill the order and CANCELED THE ORDER!! The social worker was holding of the hand of another patient being admitted, something we saw nothing of, and kept telling me he couldn't take care of this issue at the moment. Said he'd messaged the equipment business. Little did he know that I had contacted the business and they said he to submit a new order!! All the while he'd told us this order was submitted on Wednesday....LIES, LIES, LIES. On the morning of discharge, we still had no walker delivered. As of this writing, the order still shows it's not been delivered so I canceled both orders. I can't stomach incompetence. All they have to do is DO THEIR JOB!! Nurses aren't comprehending medication orders. Social worker can't multi-task. Hospitality girl gives hope of nothing. Therapy wasn't too bad, even though he didn't get the "5 days a week" they said would happen. Before we left the hospital, I was visited by a sales rep who told me "we'll feed you" when I asked about staying with him. The day before his discharge, I got a visit from a dietary person who wanted me to pay $360! The only good thing I have to say is that I was able to stay with my husband. I hope he never has to be in a SNF again but if he does, it won't be this one!!!
