Community makes me believe in vintage and thrift again. Sound dramatic? Maybe you haven't been thrifting in Vancouver as a plus size woman! Vancouver's vintage and consignment is already notoriously expensive and caters almost exclusively to a small dress size. Community, a Vintage and Consignment that is run by a non-profit Downtown Eastside housing and resource society not only engages with the neighbourhood it lives in, but also works to diversify its size range to engage with shoppers of many sizes. It hires women from the neighbourhood to work in the business and portions of the proceeds go back into the neighbourhood, which feels great while you shop! The space is small but well utilized and well decorated. Great jewelry by local designers is on display and the clothes have a very consistent and curated turnover rate. And the prices!! Compared to Vancouvers vintage scene, Community is absolutely the fairest price I've found yet. These days even Value Village is getting pricey so to go to a shop where the selection is so well picked out and find something affordable feels great. Again, I'm a plus size shopper who finds an amazing score here 90% of the time. Pieces from Community make up probably 50% of my wardrobe. See you there this weekend! read more

It was easy to fall in love with Community Thrift and Viintage. Gastown, exposed brick walls, affordable quality garments, natural fibres, not-for-profit *and* run by some incredibly sweet and genuinely rad people? Done. Turns out I'm not their only lover. Turns out, pretty great ventures earn many a fan. Turns out the over-gentrification of my beloved Gastown neighbourhood really is only for real-estate agents. Turns out Community Thrift needed a second home. While the original shop on Cordova will dominate dudes duds, this new pretty little location is like hopping off a train into a handpicked heaven filled with the most perfectly paradisaical curated collection of lovely lady vintage. One part social enterprise, one part thrift store, all parts awesome, this pretty little vintage venture is retail-with-a-conscious to the highest order. Easily the best vintage shop in Vancouver. Easily a beacon for what I hope is a change in the Vancouver retail landscape. read more

Went here today for the first time, don't know how I haven't been here after living in Vancouver for 7 years. It was glorious! They had the cutest shoes and purses, and amazing dresses, sweaters, and anything you could ever want. Plus, the prices were really reasonable, especially for what you were getting. I got this vintage dress today in mint condition for $26, and there was tons more stuff that I wanted. The people that worked there were really nice and friendly, and really made an effort to make conversation. If you're feeling in a thrifty mood, definitely stop by here. read more

I adored this shop! I normally don't care much for the blank white walls of many modern boutiques, but it worked so well here. I guess because maybe it offered a more industrial feel, than a clinical feel. The inventory ranged from 1920s through the 1990s, which about a maybe split of 70 percent 70s and later, and 30 percent being 60s and earlier. But what there was of true vintage was utterly spectacular! There was so many gorgeous gowns from the 30s, 40s and 50s. I ultimately walked away with just a jacket, but if money was no barrier, I would have walked out with much of the store! Prices are fair, about average or a little below of internet prices. The gal working was very nice and accommodating when I requested to see something that was on display. And even gave me a slip of paper with the shop's info and a map when I told her I needed to sleep on purchasing a dress. I can't wait to return! read more

Yes, yes, yes. I was initially put off by Community having moved all of their lady stuff to a different shop, mostly because the Frock Shoppe is closed Sundays while the other Community is not, but I got over my grump pretty quickly once I actually stopped into the Frock Shoppe. The prices are totally reasonable, especially considering the amount of time that it must take the staff to go through crappy clothes for some of the GORGEOUS gems at this store. Things are sorted in a really useful way and I will ALWAYS find something I like. It doesn't feel like a ripoff like some other thrift/consignment stores, which is nice. read more

This is the first time I really feel comfortable in a thrift store. It's nice & clean, smell is ok, price are reasonable and the selection of clothes is awesome. Going back? I can't wait to have my next paycheck to dress here, so yes! ;) read more

service was super nice ! had lots of clothing that was on my pinterest board for a fair price. most items are around $24-29 however the jackets do get a little pricey. had so many good knits to choose from and everyone there was super nice ! I love Community Thrift and Vintage. I literally ALWAYS (problematically haha) find something to die for and bring home. The BEST most amazing vintage, hard to find stuff and prices so low it disturbs me when I see similar stuff on another local vintage store for 4 x the price. (sometimes the Instagram seller i'm thinking BUYS it from Community (good for them for supporting local business!!) and the resells it for that higher price...(Good job with your local business!!!!) I love that it is a social enterprise, and i think the negative reviews about bad customer service are overblown. The store makes it a priority to employee hard to employee women in our community, which is amazing, and sometimes when people are working in a new environment, nerves and discomfort may come out as "rudeness" I love you Community!!!!! read more

These 2 shops offer up a great variety of vintage clothes at very reasonable prices. My only argh is The Frock Shoppe isn't open on Sundays and Community Thrift is. Inventory is constantly changing, everyday new items are coming and going. They keep everything very organized and make shopping a breeze. You always have an opportunity to find something really special or unusual, and the clothes are always clean. The sales people are friendly. The decor is well designed and very cool. They also help employ women in need from the local community. Both shops carry clothing, shoes and accessories. Community Thrift is geared towards men fashions, although I've found some cool pieces for myself. And The Frock Shoppe is all about the female form. read more

I stumbled upon this shop by pure accident while roaming the area. I was amazed at the quality of selection in great condition, great prices with partial proceeds going towards a good cause to help the downtown Eastside. The customer service was awesome. The organization of the store made it seem like a boutique in a not so favorable area. read more

This is one of the best vintage stores in Vancouver. I always walk away with something. It's a small store but curated well. Reminds me of places in Portland where vintage prevails. The prices are also fair and I love the feel of the store and the ambiance. Some students of mine introduced me to this a couple years ago when they hosted an event for the store in their old space and now I'm hooked. I'm so sad to see vintage stores close down and hope people will shop here. Excellent selection of stylish, wearable vintage items for very good prices. Store is clean with a calm and pleasant atmosphere. Great for silk tops and blouses and vintage leather accessories. Whoever picks clothes here has a great eye, the vintage items are nice-looking and unique but very wearable in contemporary outfits. There's a small selection of older vintage items (some nearly antique) for significantly better prices than you'd find anywhere else. And unlike many vintage stores, this one stocks a high percentage of natural fibers. Highly, highly recommended. read more

A cute little shop with a community-minded focus! I love that they support the DTES community and it makes me want to spend my money here. I've wandered by here several times when it was closed and today lucked out and it was still open. I was trying to avoid the Gastown Grand Prix madness so it seemed like a good enough reason to head in this direction - I'm certainly glad I did. The store is stuffed with unique vintage items and the prices, especially for Vancouver, are fantastic. It reminded me of a Portland-style vintage shop. Lots of great finds here. The shop owners obviously put a lot of time and effort into finding quality items. I didn't purchase anything today but will definitely be back. read more

This little store has a super cute layout. The variety of clothes is great. They have some beautiful vintage pieces going back to the 1920's. I love how most of the clothing can be worn everyday. The prices are affordable compared to most other vintage stores. read more
