I absolutely love this community thrift store. The pricing is amazing, the selection is always changing, and there are so many great options every time I come in. You can really tell a lot of care goes into what they put on the floor, and I've found some incredible deals here over the years. That said, the only downside -- and it's a big one -- is the person who usually runs the register. I've been here multiple times, and I've had multiple interactions with the same woman, and unfortunately she is consistently rude, cold, and clearly unhappy to be dealing with customers. It honestly makes the checkout process uncomfortable and kind of dreadful. It makes me wonder why someone who seems so miserable would choose a job that involves constant interaction with people. This store is such a positive, community-focused place, and it deserves staff who reflect that same warmth. I'll keep coming back because the store itself is wonderful -- I just hope the customer service experience improves, because it's the one thing holding this place back from being truly perfect. read more

I was in the area and came across Community Thrift Center. It is a big store with lots and lots of merchandise. As with most thrift stores it has a lot of clothing like 70-75% of the store. With that said the other 25% is a lot of merchandise. I would say the balance is excellent and there is a lot of great stuff to get. I love thrift stores and this one is one of the better I have been to in Pittsburgh so far. The staff where friendly and helpful. As previously stated big store lots of parking and good selection. Selection is okay, prices so-so, but I saw 2 major problems that will stop me from returning: #1 - No dressing rooms AND no returns. We walked through the entire store and had a cart full of clothes before we learned there are no changing rooms to try anything on, so it was a huge waste of time. I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely can't tell if a pair of jeans will fit just by looking at them. If the store won't/can't offer changing rooms, they should at least offer a return window on clothing. We would have spent 4x more if we knew the clothes would fit. #2 - Price tags are STAPLED to each article of clothing, easily causing damage. We didn't notice this until we got home with the few pieces we purchased. It was tricky to remove them without tearing delicate fabric. It doesn't make much sense because staples aren't notably cheaper than plastic retail taggers, and they are a lot more hazardous. The staff was not friendly (no greetings, no eye contact) and seemed miserable, but not deducting any stars for that-- these days we are lucky anyone shows up to retail jobs at all. read more

Holy thrift heavens, this place is gigantic! Thrift shopping and reselling has been a recent hobby my boyfriend and I both have come to love, and I'm not sure why we waited so long to give this place a shot. It's basically on our way home from work, and one day we made the choice to stop by for the hour or so before closing. Since our initial visit we have been by 2 or 3 more times, but the hours aren't necessarily the most compatible with our work schedule. They are open until 8 on Wednesday and Friday and they are open both weekend days, so this allows us at least a few chances to score some thrift gems. The first night we only had about an hour to shop before the lights were getting shut off, but I still made out with a whole bag of goodies including a Michael Kors tee and a sweet pair of summery heels. Last time we were here was Tuesday. I got the cutest flower necklace for $5, a Tommy Hilfiger sweater, an American Eagle cardigan, and a pair of Lucky Brand moccasins all for less than $15. My boyfriend found a Members Only windbreaker that was his prize piece for the day. The store is incredibly organized which makes shopping more pleasant and more efficient. The shoe section is impressive, and they have a ton of bags and housewares. The sales rotate weekly and most times I've been there 2 different colored tags were 50% off and 1 other was 25%, which means most items in the store are discounted. The Community Thrift in the North Hills is one of my FAVORITE thrift stores. This location... not so much. My main complaint is that they don't provide a restroom for customers. I am a die-hard thrifter and often spend three or four hours looking at racks. I always used to have my son with me when I was an infant and would need to change him or feed him. I'd asked about the restrooms when he needed a change and the worker I spoke to didn't look at me, just said, "No restrooms." I left to take him to the drug store down the street and I haven't been back since. Their prices are fantastic, but I never find the quality of treasures that I find at the other location, and the workers are nowhere near as friendly. This is a huge thrift store that is about as organized as I have ever seen a thrift store be! It has a huge selection of almost any single item you are looking for. Be careful, you can easily spend an entire afternoon lost in a treasure hunt! Great prices and pretty decent condition of most of the items, too! I've been back twice since my initial visit and I've only found one blemish on my shining gem of thrift-dom. Upon my second visit when I wanted to buy some work pants and jeans to cut into shorts... There is no dressing room. This place is huge inside and they some how don't have any space for a dressing room?!? It was suggested by an employee to "pick an empty isle and be discrete" which I'm almost an expert at!! I'm just surprised that a thrift store with so much in the way of clothes and open space doesn't have a dressing room. read more

This thrift store has a huge selection. It's not fancy by any means... No fitting rooms, dark and dingy. But they have a lot of stuff and lots of nicer brands to be found. Now they do pull some of their nicer stuff and price it kinda high, but that's typical at most thrift stories nowadays. But I still have found some very nice gems hidden in the racks. The plus size and babies/kids sections are large and usually have a nice selection. Downsides: no fitting room and mirrors on the floor are few and far between; clothing is not sized so you have to dig though everything; parking can get a bit tight. This place is super big and have many guys and girl clothes. If your looking for super cheap stuff this is the place to go! Always have deals on certain price tags everyday and i always find victoria secret or Pink collections of leggings or shirts in there for such a low price! I got 5 things of Pink for just $28. This thrift store has a ton stuff. Tons of shoes, make up bags, clothes, home stuff, freaking vending machines, beautiful China sets under $70 & plenty of steeler stuff. They also had 5 different Red Wing shoes behind checkout counter and other boots in nice condition last time I was there. No fitting rooms and mirrors are hard to find but there's a ton of stuff here. My sister in law is _the_ official thrift store lady and I always tag along with her here. Like the other reviews say, this place has a great selection and is organized. I never seem to leave empty handed. They also hand out coupons once in a while which I haven't come across at any other thrift store. The cons for me are there are no dressing rooms and it's hard to even find a mirror to look in. I also am not sure why they insist on shoving all the clothes together at the end of the racks, which makes it more difficult to look through the clothes. read more

Great place to shop on a budget . I can't afford to buy new clothes all the time especially when its for work. I needed hoodies / long sleeve shirts that I didn't care if they get ruined do to work and got 5 items thinking it will be well over 20 bucks and it was only $10. I would definitely recommend this place and stay away from the red white and blue store on 51 unless you like cluster of a store.. read more

The pros are it's huge and has a huge selection, mostly of clothes and shoes. Now the cons. No dressing rooms or rest room. I know people can abuse both but these days most stores including thrifts have dressing and bathrooms. I didn't find the people particularly friendly. They staple the price tag directly over the label so if you're short of time or like to see the brand it's very annoying. Finally, the shoe prices are written on the soles of shoes with sharpies. Try getting sharpie ink out some time. I won't say I'll never go again, but it's at the bottom of my go to thrift places. read more

They like to make up prices atthe register. Found barbies for my kids in a bin for a quarter. They said they were in the wrong bin and ALL barbies are a dollar. Ok, I get that, so I said I would just take the one barbie. Then she says "Well that one comes with clothes so it is $2. I said "where are the clothes for it?" She says "I don't know , we can't find them. But it is still $2 because it came with clothes." ????? read more
