i am a female, mid 60's, who was visiting Amelia Island from out of state and am well versed in…read moremassage techniques, as i get one once a month in my home state. my tendency, out of availability, is to be massaged by a woman. i had an hour massage with Don, who is part owner with his wife. Don's technique of massage was excellent! he is very knowledgable in the health field and welcomes any questions and health concerns that you may have. he also uses sound therapy, playing the deeper sounds of music while you are massaged. i have arthritis in my neck, lower spine, hip areas and scoliosis. hand traction is very beneficial for me. Don addressed my problems in the massage and his hand traction and pressure was great, similar to pulling "taffy". this technique may not be for everyone, but then again you are in charge of the pressure your therapist uses and what method you need. the healing center is clean, staff is very friendly and the massage room was large and very calming. highly recommended:)

They each have their own amazing styles and they have brought me back to loving yoga after my long hiatus from practicing. Short walk through the pine forest to another roaring fire and hammocks surrounding our meditation guide and crystal singing bowls. What I don't understand is that other Y's I visit have professional cleaning companies in their facilities more than once a day. Here, I've seen the staff clean (obviously not very well). Membership rates are similar, so not sure why this place doesn't utilize a service. 2 - weird policies: no TRXs anywhere. Every Y I go to has them readily available; they're even in most hotel gyms these days. Same with the large exercise balls. Supposedly some idiot had one collapse on him when he was trying to lift weights on it a few years ago, and sued. Seems like a weak reason to get rid of something that is standard equipment in every other Y and gym in the country. 3 - staff is focused on rules and not customers. They enforce a policy for visitors utilizing the nationwide program that specifies the visitor can on ly work out there for 2 weeks. This isn't followed anywhere else, anytime. In fact, some Y's I visit have a separate key fob reader for visitors. No questions, no hassle, come right in. Not this place. Would seriously advise someone to look at other options before coming here. If nothing else, might save you from contracting something you don't want off the locker room floor.

The teachers here are kind, empathetic and willing to help you throughout the course. I appreciated having the cell in my dorm as it helped me go deeper into my meditation practice. There are extra supplies in the closets if you forgot to pack something and the site and course managers are here to assist to help you focus on your meditation. Serving here was also a great opportunity to give back. They have a fantastic menu that rotates to ensure a healthy variety of vegetarian and vegan options. Accommodations for allergens are taken seriously and the team is willing to ensure that needs are met so that the meditation can be focused on. This is a great center and I hope to come back to serve and volunteer in the future.
