I wanted to correct the name of the vet I (and many others in Florence) started using instead of Companion. It is the Animal Hospital of Kingstree on Hwy 52. Where is the zero stars option?! I wanted to share a horrible experience I had with Companion Veterinary Care 3 days ago. In order to make an appt/establish a new pt, you must give a $50 deposit. Ok no problem. However, evidently they have a policy that there is only one person allowed in the room with the pet. This was not relayed when I made the appt of course and pd the deposit. They informed me once we were in the room that my 6 year old daughter had to sit in the lobby by herself. In no world would I ever allow my child to sit in a lobby by herself. I can understand that this is the right of the business; they can enact any policy they want no matter how irrational but seems this would be relayed when the appt was made and deposit paid. The vet refused to allow her in the room. Of course we did not stay, did not see a dr, and I am not being refunded the $50. I would adamantly recommend you not use this establishment. read more

Staff is super helpful. I am very attached and protective of my fur baby and they always seem to care a lot and made me very comfortable

We've been using Companion for 18 years and I have no complaints. They were very sympathetic when we had to put down my Aussie of 12 years. We now have 2 dogs and they have been so helpful answering all of my questions. I feel like they truly care about my babies. read more

I had a stroke. I called to cancel two appointments. They decided to cancel the sooner one and not the second ones. They admitted to it. They are still charging a missed appointment fee. They prefer I see another vet because they will not credit the fee. We were about to spend another 500+ there on our three dogs. They said we are at an impasse and it would be better to get another vet. Disgusting horrible service. Don't take your pets there. I regret exposing our dogs to them. read more

First of all, a few years ago I need a vet for my cat, Socks. Being new to the area, I did a lot of research online trying to find a vet that had decent reviews. My husband always took his 2 dogs to this clinic, but after I read the reviews regarding the staff being rude and the vet misdiagnosing pets, I decided to take my cat elsewhere. Well today we brought 1 of my husbands little dogs in to be seen at this clinic and I can see why they receive poor reviews. To begin with, the receptionist could not find any info on our little dog but had info for the other little dog. Next, the vet tech stated that only 1 person could go into the exam room with the pet due to COVID. Mind you, NO ONE was wearing any masks and did not ask us to wear a mask. I told my husband to go ahead in the room seeing that he's the one paying the bill and if they have to give prices for anything, even shots, I figured it would be best for him to decide. Well as I'm sitting in the lobby I can hear the vet in the room just chattering away, and I heard him say something that perked my ears up and caused me to stand outside the exam room door and listen in. Once the vet left the room I opened the door and asked my husband what was going on. He said that the vet said that our dog has arthritis. The reason why we needed our dog examined is because in her abdomen you can feel round balls and one of her nips occasionally leak which was concerning to me, not too mention that she has lost weight and you can easily feel her spine and hip bones. I asked if the vet said anything about the little masses in her abdomen and my husband said he forgot to mention it. So we swapped positions. He waited in lobby and I waited for the vet to come back into the room so I could aske him why he believes our dog has arthritis. The vet tech and some other dark hair chick came into the room with a quote for dental procedures and pain pills. I tell them that she does not need pain pills because she does not have arthritis and that I wanted to speak with the vet. The blonde vet tech informed me that everything was explained to my husband. I said well now I need it explained to me because my husband left a few details out. Vet tech says why didn't you come into the room in the first place. I said b/c my husband is paying the bill that's why. The little dark hair chick says under her breath, and I quote, "that's not our fault". The vet tech and I are still going back forth as to why I don't need to see the vet b/c everything was explained. I'm asking her who does she think she is to debate with me, and she tells me to calm down which made me jump up from my seat and firmly said once again I want to speak with the vet. Rude girls leave and vet comes in asking me why am I so upset. I tell him because she does not have arthritis and to explain to me why he things she does. I say this little dog jumps up and off the furniture, she stands on her hind legs and paws the air as little dogs do, and she runs up and down stairs. The vet proceeds to tell me how he's been a vet for 30 years and that he has arthritis and he can jump up and down. I said so do I and I can't. I asked him why he did not examine her b/c she's here for the abnormalities in her abdomen. He states, and again I quote, "I admit that I did miss that but I've been doing this for 30 years and you can have arthritis and not have any pain." I'm like Really huh, I don't see how that's possible. I said she's an 11 year old dog and you all don't even take blood from her to make sure her liver and kidneys are fine?? You diagnose her with having arthritis and yet you take no x-rays to confirm your diagnosis. Again for the 3rd time He repeats how he's been doing this for 30 years. No mention whatsoever of why she is so skinny. I would imagine a blood panel might have helped answer that question. Instead they check her for intestinal parasites and heartworm. Vet says that it's best that I take her somewhere else and I say finally we are on the same page because this clinic obviously does not know what they are doing. Mind you, I've worked in a veterinary clinic at the humane society for a number of years and I am also a dog trainer, so I do know a little bit about veterinary medicine. I mean even I had to have an x-ray for my doctor to be certain that I do have arthritis. I know that I can be outspoken and I will advocate for my pets, myself, and my loved ones. I have NEVER experienced such disdain and utter rudeness in my life! Now I see why they only have 2.5 stars. If you love your pet, take it somewhere else. 30 years of being a vet and blood work and x-rays are not even mentioned, plus missing very noticeable lumps if he would have examined her thoroughly. Would you want to take your pet to a vet that admits that he missed something??? Absolutely pathetic. read more

I had one of my dogs put to sleep in August 2018. Lady vet did a fantastic job informing me of everything thing to expect. I chose to stay in the room and comfort him during this procedure. Very sad day but she made it bearable. Two weeks ago I had another dog put to sleep by Dr. Lockhart. Was not impressed with his bedside manner at all. First he put the needle in but didn't hit the vein. Had to pull out and restick. My furbaby was whining so I knew he was hurting. Second stick went in but by that time blood was on his leg. Said he didn't know if he got enough in him so went out and loaded more in needle. Came back in and gave him more. Listened to his heartbeat and said "he's dead" and walked out of the room. My heart was breaking for my furbaby because I felt I had just put him through torture. He did not just fall asleep quietly. He fought the pain of being stuck three times!! I will never forget Dr. Lockhart's handling of this situation and I will never return there with my current furbaby. Not happy with Dr. Lockhart at all. Going elsewhere for required services. read more

Very,very rude staff and vet ( Lockhart ). Kicked my dad out of his practice after he requested his dogs prescription so that he could purchase meds on line ( by law, he has every right to request this ). When I called to question why my dad was treated this way, he was extremely rude to me and hung up on me! His receptionist accused my dad of cursing at her, which he did not do! He refused to believe that my dad did not do that, stating "my staff would not lie!" I told him that I was going to spread the word about how my dad was treated and his reply to me was "you do what you gotta do!" Okay... advise taken Dr. Lockhart! Dr. Lockhart and his staff are great! I've fostered for several rescues and have taken pets to various vet clinics from Florence to Columbia and everywhere in between. Without a doubt, Companion is the kindest and most helpful! Dr. Lockhart is extremely knowledgeable and takes time to explain things in great detail. Currently, I have 5 dogs ranging from puppy to senior and they all go to Companion. Highly recommend. read more

A compassionate veterinary staff. Dr. Davis works hard to provide the standard of care for all pets. A review previously posted about dogs being mistreated while boarded doesn't sound realistic. Veterinarians and staff don't make very much money, they do what they do because they love animals. This is easy to see with Dr. Davis in how she talks about her patients. read more

I have probably visited every vet clinic in town with several different animals that I have rescued and re-homed over the years. I must admit that I've had my issues with all of them, but this is the only vet clinic that has impelled me to write a review and to never desire to go back. I won't bore you with the specifics. They are just terrible people. I understand that this is also a business, but there is no concern at this place for the animals that they care for whatsoever. It's all about business for them. I was disrespected and indirectly called a liar by one of the veterinarians and by the receptionist for attempting to save and animal that wasn't even mine. I just took my dog in to have her annual vaccinations, using this Veterinarian for the first time.The thing that was impressing and stands out the most to me is the thorough physical examination Dr. Davis performed on my pet. Not only while doing this, asked questions in order to get a better understanding of my pets lifestyle, giving advise with my pets well being in mind. You could tell Dr.Davis is someone who loves what she does and is an Veterinarian who truly has your pets best interest at stake. read more

I took 4 dogs to get boarded. I came home with three. Those three were covered in urine and waste. They were fed 5 cans of food over 5 day period total. They were starved. One lost almost 9lbs in 5 days and has been in ICU since I picked him up. He had diarrhea in his ears and is also being treated for an ear infection on top of his blood transfusions. They were trying to send him home and he was dying. He was dying on their watch and received nothing. They didnt even know he was sick so they said. Isnt that why you got to school to be a vet...so you know these things. You mean to tell me out of en enitre staff no one saw that he had changed and become lethargic. He is named Spunky for a reason..because he is Spunky. They would not even take him back into the facility until I insisted that he was very ill. He was lethargic and couldnt even hold his head up. When the good dr was questioned as to why they werent fed properly, why they were drenched in urine and waste and why my dog was dying..their answer was, Oh is something wrong with him? Well no one told me. Your the Vet lady..no one should have to point out a dying dog to you. I took him to another vet and he has been in icu all week and still may not make it. After posting on facebook I found out that there are many others this has happened to and many of their pets ended up dying. These people are the most rude people I have ever encountered in a customer service field.Instead of calming the situation and defusing it..we were told once we mentioned lawyer to GET OUT. No worries there. I certainly was not leaving my dog in a place he had been for 5 days and was dying to be treated once I pointed out he was sick. You had 5 days with him. When I took the other 3 dogs home and went back for Spunky they were even more rude. It was like I was a bother to them after I just put $300 in their hands to watch my dogs. It was a case of abuse and out and out neglect. These people are supposed to take care of our animals. Mine were far from taken care of and I may lose my baby. My dogs arent normal dogs. They are my children and deserve so much better than how they were treated. I wouldnt send a walking turd into this place nor would I let my animals shadows shine on their property ever again.
