When I first arrived I was anxious and feeling like a train wreck. At this point I'd lost 9 pounds…read moreover a week from severe hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and was desperate for fluids and food. HG is a pregnancy condition where the nausea is so bad, that it prevents you from keeping down even sips of fluid or small bites of saltines. Many women end up hospitalized, frequent flyers at the ER and needing major care to stay healthy and have a healthy pregnancy. After a trip to the ER myself and getting fully diagnosed after testing and IV's, my OBGYN made a plan for me that included coming here every 2-3 days for IV infusions. They include a liter of lactated ringers and a liter of lactated ringers loaded with essential daily and prenatal vitamins and IV medicine. To say I was anxious was an understatement. But the staff here from front desk check in, pre-treatment vitals and treatment are truly wonderful. Everyone is so caring and empathetic, knowledgeable and professional. You start to see the same patients coming and going and it's really great to see the relationships between them and the nurses. Names are remembered, what was last talked about, sincere care. I've also been anxious about getting IV's, as they tend to hurt now which I'm not used to. But as my IV nurse best friend said, normally veins are plump and easy to access but mine are flat and dehydrated. The nurses here have been really great at giving heat pads, cuffs and using gravity to get my veins to pop out just enough. And we have enough between my arms and hands to be able to alternate without needing a midline or piccline (thank goodness). What to expect ..... you walk into building 2 and they have a little desk who screens everyone who enters. They'll ask if you have any flu symptoms and do a laser gun temperature check. You'll get a sticker with the date and the word "screened" on it to wear, if you pass. Then you head into room 140, to the right and down the hall. You check in with the nurse and let them know when you took which medications last, they'll also ask if you've had a covid test within the last 2 weeks. Then you take a seat and wait to get called back. Once a nurse comes to grab you, they'll weigh you, take your blood pressure/vitals and temp. Afterwards, you'll head back to the actual IV area, which has chairs and privacy barriers between each chair. There is a huge desk/nurse station and then the chairs border it. So that eyes are always on you to make sure you're lines are doing well and you're being well cared for. Once you sit, they offer warm blankets and pillows for your head or IV arm to rest on. The chairs themselves are like lazy boys, they recline almost flat and the leg section pops up for you. They also have various snacks to offer. Graham crackers, saltines, peanut butter and Tillamook cheese. Cup of noodles if you're feeling extra hungry. Sodas, juices and water. Mid-infusion I'm usually able to eat some saltines with the cheddar cheese, which always tastes amazing, especially if I've been throwing up all night waiting to get to my next infusion. If you have to use the bathroom, they can unplug your machine which has a battery in it, then you can wheel your whole IV tower into the bathroom with you. Everything is as comfortable as they can possibly make it. Which is great, as I need to start coming in 3 times a week now. Which means I'll be seeing these nurses more than anyone outside of my household. For cleanliness, it's a hospital facility. It doesn't get much more brightly lit and clean than this place. There are also hand sanitizers every where and sterilized pens at check in, so no community reuse items, aside from door handles. All in all, I couldn't be happier with my care here. I think you will feel the same, too. Come here with confidence and feel better! Also, personal tips. Bring something cozy where your sleeve can roll up without being tight, or something to drape over your shoulders and uppers arms. My IV arm always gets really cold, so having that layer of insulation really helps keep the shivering down. If you didn't get good sleep and plan to nap, bring an eye mask, as it's really bright in the room. I also bring my own added blanket, as it's a little thicker. The room is a bit chilly to start with and getting 2 liters of cold IV pumped into you, does wonders for dropping your body temp. Also, the IV machines beep pretty often around the room, things like needing the change the IV bag or the bag is done. So at various points of your stay, you'll hear multiple IV machine beep alarms going off. Bring ear plugs if you're going to try to nap. Or if you're exhausted enough, perhaps you'll just sleep through them. If you plan on staying awake, bring some sort of book or activity to keep entertained. I see a lot of patients with headphones and movie watching going on. You're also welcome to bring your own snacks, too.

I appreciated that she didn't poke me more than twice, as the bruising after is horrid for me (I literally look like a junkie) All nurses are caring and they look after you. I was initially assisted by Elena and she was the most wonderful. If you have to get done infusions on the regular I recommend to have an "infusion bag" that contains a nice blanket, some snacks, electrolyte drink/sticks, water bottle and a battery pack for your electronics. PS: be sure to wash that blanket after each session!

Again. My first cancer was a quick surgery and all done. No further treatment needed and so far no recurrence. This time, not so much. I will be spending my 2021 in chemo/immunotherapy. Because colon cancer is not very nice. Everyone at this clinic tho has been really nice and my oncologist is terrific. My oncologist is Dr. Gina Vacarro and I like her straight shooter with compassion style. My first infusion was on NYE morning and I was there most of the day in the hands of my kind nurse Lynette. There are snacks, warm blankets, the good hospital ice , beverages, and restrooms and the room was a lot more bright and pleasant than I expected.There is also wifi. So far so good. They loaded me up with anti nausea meds and a 46 hour pump attatched to my port. I have to go back to get that removed. I will update in a few months but I feel like I am in good hands. Some good news, during the pandemic the parking is better. The bad news, most parts of the hospital allow no visitors, so for example my minion dropped me off and came back for me. I felt well enough that I think I can drive myself next time. I don't know how this will go of course, but I feel less anxious. I will keep you posted. If you wind up going here ( if anything is up with you go see your doctor! do not postpone anything!especially a colonoscopy!) you will of course feel anxious ( I totally did) but it is not that bad. One for the physician ( your usual co Pay) and separately one for the chair in a room to talk to the physician from Providence. That charge is $81. If you have cancer it's not a one visit event. I have great insurance, but they'll only pay for one of charges. (they also see as a double charge). So, the patient ends up paying extra. So, unless you're very rich and can offer 2 charges for an office visit, there are other very good doctors at other locations. I did ask my physician about it and she had her staff look into, as well as my insurance company. Staff in the business office at Providence admitted that it was a double charge. I called the State of Oregon investigate, and was basically told they can charge patients anything they want. CUSTOMER/PATIENT BEWARE There was a time when the Mission for the Sisters of Providence meant something. But no longer. Very sad.

He was MIA for almost two months as my partner was going through some difficulties with his treatment. We saw Dr. Raja following this absence and with no current data, no scan for two months, told us that he was terminal and basically wrote him off. We had to convince him to continue the chemo cycles because we didn't believe it. Signs werern't there. OT, PT, and a home health nurse rolled their eyes upon hearing this. The doctor also didn't recognize a simple pressure sore; the nurse told us what it was. After this unnecessary bombshell, Dr. Raja said "thank you" and left the room. This is inexcusable behavior. We will be seeking care with a different doctor.

On the first floor in the…read moreNorth Tower is the Providence Safeway Foundation Breast Center, which has been designated The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the American College of Radiology's voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. In addition to the latest technology and equipment, the Center has created an environment and process that makes the experience as stress free as possible. For many women, and men, it's not the actual exam that is painful, but the anxiety and fear one experiences until they receive the results. To minimize the stress, they are prompt with appointments so you are not left waiting in the main lobby. Once the attendant comes to get you, you are brought into a smaller waiting area, given a heated robe so when you undress from the waist up, you are enveloped in warmth. They provide a locker with key for your clothes and purse. There are comfy chairs, magazines, coffee & tea and a bathroom in this area. Once you have changed into a robe, you are taken into a private room for imaging. The process from the time I entered the office on the first floor of the North Tower, had the exam and left, was 30 minutes. The radiologist reviews images the next day. If they detect anything at all that seems suspicious, they call. Otherwise you receive a letter in the mail within 2 weeks, with a copy to your doctor. Conveniently located right next to Providence with the entrance on NE 48th, you can valet park and use the main entrance or park your car in the attached lot and take the skybridge on the 2nd floor, which will keep you dry & warm. You then take the elevator down to first floor and the Breast Center is to the right, down the hall. There are lots of other oncology offices in this building. When you walk in on the first floor, there is an information desk, but I find it more helpful to ask your doctor's office for specifics on their location so you know where you are heading. The building is bright, clean and has a modern flair. I highly recommend this facility.

This encounter was completely void of any concern for my privacy and well-being! And the two combative receptionists certainly don't belong in any job dealing with patients or the public; they'd be better suited for jobs as prison guards!

Check in was easy. The lab tech that I had for a myriad of vials made the draw quick and painless. Her humor and manner was appreciated. She was even serious as she humorously handed off the 24 hour sample jug. She answered every question I had and sent me on my way laughing and smiling.

My feet and hands were numb until I would step on something or brush anything up against the tips of my toes or my fingers. Quality of life was zero. When I tried to get them to help me, they pretty much ignored my pain. They didn't do anything. I'm hold that cancer doctors are supposed to help with your pain to keep you from suffering and to allow you to be able to continue your treatment. Well I didn't get anything like that. I even refused treatment because I couldn't take any more pain from the cumulative effect of the chemo. It wasn't until today, one month after refusing treatments and putting in a referral request to go to the Knight Center with OHSU that they called and offered me an appointment with their Dr Windler, because they were concerned about my pain. Not after the first refusal of treatment, nor the second or third. Only when I requested to be transferred somewhere else did they offer me an appointment. I cannot believe how badly I have suffered. And even though it's been 4 weeks since I had treatment I am still suffering. The neuropathy and numbness continue. I can only hope my new doctor will be more understanding. Avoid this place at all costs. They're more concerned with how they look and what they can get from you and not how you actually feel as a human being going through chemotherapy. They even kept reporting in my medications file all the things that they gave me before and during chemo treatment and the chemotherapy that I received. And they even did that for the days I refused treatment and was not there. They scam you. Ridiculous.

My surgeon was mystified as to why Gruenberg did not order the test. She directed me to call him. He was furious. Said I could not accept I had cancer. Said I was wasting resources. Said I could be responsible for thousands of dollars for the test. (The test is free if your insurance does not cover it). My surgeon ordered the test only to find the benefit of chemo for me was zero. Yes, zero. This man would have administered poisonous drugs to me for 6 months, devastating my life and my business. What kind of person would do that to another person?

He comes in to the office and introduces himself and tells you that you can call him Dan. He's not hung up on the whole Dr. thing. Yes, we all know he's a doctor but he's a regular guy too. I like that about him. We worked on many therapies for my DVT and finally as of today, I've been released from his care. However, I told him he's still part of the team. As I joked it takes a team of doctors to keep me going. I felt like he knew what he was doing and what therapies to try. He's an oncologist as well as a hematologist. Most cancer doctors also know their blood work as well. One thing is you have to keep checking back for your results. They will not often call you with them. So, if I had to improve in an area it would be there. Highly recommend.

I keep getting bounced back and forth between Compass and the plastic surgeon and in the meantime not is being done to resolve the pain. I also have CLL. I'm losing muscle mass and Dr. Cosgrove refuses to refer me to the staff dietitian so I can be placed on supplemental nutritional shakes. If I'm not referred by Friday I'm filing a com with the Washington State Medical Board. You go to Compass to stay as healthy as possible and all they want to do is make me sicker. I HATE Compass Oncology. Their schedulers suck. Customer service is non-existent. Its a horrible place. If you have good insurance, go somewhere else!!!

I have never seen a friendlier, more intelligent, dedicated group of people and will continue to praise them because they have been by my side for the past 7 months ready to help and get me through. I know I can count on them and it makes what I am going through more manageable. Ten months ago, I developed a rectal issue that at times, left me screaming in pain. I could not sit, walk comfortably and even had difficulty lying down. The pain and throbbing would last up to 12 hours (at its worse) after my daily bowel movement. This went on for several months. I wish I could say this is an exaggeration but unfortunately it was reality for me. I actively sought out help only to have nightmarish experiences that left me speechless. I started to lose hope and had trouble coping with the way I had been treated by bitter specialists, nurses and affiliated staff who simply didn't care what I was going through and didn't have time to listen or help. Eventually, after one night of horrible pain that did not subside, my husband and I got in our car and drove many hours determined to make an appointment ASAP with an excellent specialist and surgeon because we knew one must EXIST somewhere. We called Dr Frankhouse's office because he had excellent reviews and I am forever grateful that we did. The scheduler was so sympathetic and friendly that I immediately felt like I had come to the right place. I have had the absolute pleasure of going to Dr Frankhouse since January 2012 and feel that I can honestly review this doctor and his team, not based on one experience but many (including two different surgeries). They have NEVER left my side and I know they will always be there when I need them most. Below is a list of why this doctor and his team are the absolute best! COMPASSIONATE: Upon seeing him for the first time, he spent a lot of time listening to me. I desperately needed a surgery and he scheduled me ASAP to help eliminate my pain. I could tell from the get go that this is more than a career for this doctor. On top of being an extremely experienced and knowledgeable doctor, he really cares and enjoys helping others. Thank God for people like him! The WHOLE staff is like this, they do not skip a beat! POSITIVE: Before my surgeries and during every appointment, Dr. Frankhouse walks in with a genuine smile. During my most difficult moments, it lifted my spirits and put me at ease to see him walk in with his large smile ready to listen and help. The scheduler, receptionist and nurse are equally as positive giving a very pleasant vibe. WELCOMING: My questions are always answered in a very intelligent, well-thought out manner. I am a very detailed-oriented and ask a lot of questions. They always welcome me and make me feel comfortable. HUMBLE: This is just one of the many things I respect about Dr Frankhouse and his team. Dr Frankhouse, deserves an incredible amount of praise for helping me and my husband get through this difficult time, but he remained humble the whole time with his pleasant gigantic smile. PERSISTENT: I agree with one of the reviewers on the web who called Dr Frankhouse a "hero." Him and his staff are heroes because they didn't give up on my ongoing rectal issues or stop caring, they all remained patient, positive, pro-active and stuck by my side the whole step of the way! EXTREMELY COMPETENT, INTELLIGENT AND EXPERIENCED: It is difficult to find a highly experienced doctor and team who also has extremely uplifting personalities. The whole staff possesses these qualities and in seven months of seeing them, they have never wavered in their good -natured, kind-hearted ways! I don't think I have ever had this kind of care that makes me WANT to go see them just to say "Hi." I will NEVER forget how they've helped me get through one of the worst times of my life with compassion, determination, and patience. I don't know where I would be without them. I can't thank Dr. Frankhouse or his staff enough. When all hope was lost, these angels helped bring it back. Thank you!
