I want to start by saying that I have had positive experiences with The Takacs Clinic overall, and I do believe Dr. Joan Takacs is knowledgeable and capable. That's part of why this is difficult to write. I'm sharing this because of a pattern I've experienced over multiple visits, culminating in my most recent appointment. Over time, there have been repeated issues with communication, documentation, and coordination related to my workers' compensation case. This is not based on a single interaction. For example, during a prior visit, I was not provided a work release note, which created confusion when I later tried to follow up. When I called to clarify, I was told there was nothing further available, without additional explanation or effort to resolve the gap. Earlier in my claim, there were also instances where documentation had to be corrected retroactively so that my work status accurately reflected my condition and I could receive appropriate compensation. I understand these cases involve multiple moving parts, but situations like that reinforce how important consistency and accuracy are from the start. During my most recent visit, I was asked whether I felt "medically stationary." I explained that I am not a medical professional and not qualified to make that determination. That should come from the provider after a complete evaluation, including coordination with all treating professionals. In my case, both my physical therapist and aquatic therapist had not yet been consulted. The medically stationary status was marked as "not sure," which I appreciate, because it reflects that a full evaluation had not yet taken place. However, the conversation leading up to that point felt rushed and, at times, framed in a way that placed pressure on me to answer something I should not be responsible for determining. Another concern was how the conversation was framed around "moving forward" and "closing the claim." These are things I have expressed over the past two years. I do want to move forward. However, hearing those same phrases reflected back in this context felt misaligned, especially when key steps like coordinating with my therapists had not yet been completed. It gave the impression that my own words were being used to support a timeline that had not been fully evaluated. Wanting to move forward does not mean skipping necessary steps, it means making sure everything has been properly reviewed so that the next step is accurate. I was also told that "this isn't a game" and that "this is my life." I agree with that completely, as I've been saying that throughout this process. But in that moment, it felt less like support and more like pressure, especially when I was being asked to weigh in on something I'm not qualified to determine. Statements like that carry weight, and in a workers' compensation setting, they can come across as pressure if not paired with thorough evaluation and coordination of care. A patient should not feel responsible for advancing the process without full clinical guidance. After two years of navigating this process, I have been consistent in what I've communicated. The issue is not a lack of clarity on my end, it's that those concerns have not always been fully reflected in follow-through. What stands out most is the pattern: moments where communication breaks down, documentation is inconsistent, or decisions move forward without full coordination between providers. In a workers' compensation case, those details directly affect treatment, recovery timelines, and stability. For context, my injury involves the hip, and my background is in aquatics. I am a swimmer, water polo player, and artistic swimmer, and have worked in aquatic environments for many years. The hip is central to nearly every movement, and recovery requires careful, progressive rehabilitation. I have only recently returned to the water, which is a key part of my recovery. Given that, discussing whether I am medically stationary at this stage, without full coordination across my care team felt premature and not fully aligned with the recovery process. I do want to acknowledge that the physical therapy team, especially Andy, has been excellent. That side of care has been thoughtful, consistent, and a very positive part of my experience. Despite the concerns above, I still look forward to continuing care here. I have been in a vulnerable position throughout this process, and I recognize the ways Dr. Joan Takacs and the team have supported me. Edit: Since writing this review, I received a letter dated March 26, 2026 stating that Dr. Takacs is withdrawing from my care and canceling my upcoming appointment. Such great service and very professional! Seeing other reviews made me write mine. It is hard to find good times to come in since she is always booked out but if you schedule far enough in advance, she can usually accommodate and provide times to come in that do fit a busy schedule. I think she's booked out because she's experienced and that puts I'm her in demand. The staff do seem stressed over Covid which is understandable. They have you wait in the entry and do a temp check before you can come in so if you barge in, it brakes protocol and you just ignored the big sign in the front so that's understandable if they are frustrated by those who don't pay any attention to their surroundings.. read more

Her office was incredibly rude and dismissive of my. They yelled at me for walking in the door and further tried to bully me to sign forms I had already completed on my first visit. I stopped going to her, she does not care about her patients. I went to a specialist who told me that her advice for my injury would actually make my injury worse. She also had several other facts about my injury incorrect in my medical record and refused to correct them when asked. I actually felt like she was confusing me with another patient since her notes about my injury were all incorrect. I have contacted the oregon medical board to try to resolve the falsification of my medical record- which her office refused to address professionally. read more

I made an appointment to be seen after being hit by a car and was treated so poorly by the front desk. I never even made it to be seen. I took my copay, which I should not have been charged for a PIP claim and walked right out. I would not recommend to anyone. There are too many great places to go. read more

Sorry to leave this so late.. Dr. Joan is a miracle worker. She fixed things that a doctor, massage therapist and physical therapist couldn't budge. I had to put in my own work for sure and do the exercises, go to the exercise therapist, but in the end she really, really helped me. Office staff was fine. Similar to someone else who left a review here, Dr. Joan made big promises at my first session and said my back issue would be an easy fix with her treatment. After multiple sessions of trying different things, she didn't know what to do next so sent me to get an x-ray. After seeing the x-rays, she had an assistant call me to say my x-ray looked normal and there was nothing left she could do. I still experience a lot of back pain and she didn't feel like trying to help me or even refer me to someone who could help me. I was astounded that she didn't recommend an MRI or even suggest literally any next step for me to take. read more

Dr Joan is an expert. I have many back issues and have seen hundreds of chiropractors and osteopathic physicians, Joan Takacs is one of the very best. She is knowledgeable and friendly. She will tell you if she doesn't know something, but we'll find an answer for you if at all possible. She is an expert in Counterstrain manipulation and Spacial Dynamics. The office staff and practitioners in the clinic ate all very friendly and helpful, and keep the patients comfort and care add their primary focus. Finding Dr. Joan ten years ago saved my life: I was at the end of my rope after being misdiagnosed, mistreated, and written off as a fake by work comp doctors after a knee injury that exacerbated an existing degenerative mess in my lumbar spine. She has the ability to see what is going on when others' vision is clouded with pre-conceived ideas about people in pain being drug-seekers, and not people who need a helping hand to lift them up and show them there is promise for wholeness again. Dr. Takacs offers an intuitive and empathetic approach to treatment, and is fluent in all palattes of healing. Her treatments are pragmatic, and incorporate a common sense approach to remind your body how to resume a posture that opens us up for optimal living. After a car accident, my attorney recommended this clinic for chiropractic. I ended up deciding not to go for my appointment after the quite rude phone interaction I had with their scheduler when I needed to reschedule my initial appointment with more than a 24 hour notice - which somehow they still consider to be a "last minute cancellation." The person I spoke to on the phone laughed and scoffed at me for having to reschedule, since an appointment on a Tuesday in the middle of what was going to be a very busy work day was not going to be feasible after all. For my missed appoint I received a very cold and off putting voicemail from Laurie at the clinic implying I now need to tell my attorney what I've done and ask them for recommendations alternative chiropractic clinics. As a healthcare professional, I'm more than capable of finding myself a chiropractor who not only feels warm and welcoming but who also has hours that work for MY schedule. Also, when you're providing a service that people are paying for - customer service is key. Unless you have a 5 star rating and celebrity endorsed, your attitude to clients is the most important thing! If you're a hard working professional with a busy schedule, don't even bother trying to schedule here. I do not recommend this clinic and I wish I could go back in time and never have gone here myself. I saw Dr. Joan Takacs in 2016 and was treated by her and her therapist, Andy, for chronic debilitating neck pain. I had 2-3 appointments with Joan. She made big promises from the start and said that with her treatment, I'd have a full recovery. Her treatments were uncomfortable and always flared my neck pain. I told her that treatments increased my pain, but she didn't seem to adjust her treatments with that information. I saw her therapist Andy twice, first for an initial consult and then for our first full treatment visit. I was skeptical of Andy from the beginning. I just didn't trust him. In my second appointment, he had me go through a series of yoga poses. I was only into the 2-3 pose when he asked me to do a movement that I knew would immediately trigger a pain spike. It was the one movement, I told him I knew I couldn't do and we'd need to work around. He insisted and I held back. After lots of his persistence, I gave in. I then began to do it and immediately, my neck pain spiked to a 8/10. I stopped and started crying because I was so frustrated and felt so pressured to do something I knew wasn't safe. Andy then asked me to come sit by him to talk. He then proceeded to talk to me about fear and that I needed to let go of fear if I was going to experience healing. I tried to explain to him that this fear was my body sounding the alarm that this movement wasn't safe, that I'd experienced this exact things hundreds of times. He didn't believe me. He then asked me a series of very personal and honestly invasive questions. He then proceeded to tell me that maybe I was harboring a wound from an ancestor and this was why I was in pain. I waited a second, and found that he was in fact serious. I was furious, but mostly shocked at the words coming out of his mouth. I was so insulted. The tears welled up and I could feel a panic attack coming on. I didn't feel safe in his care. I wrapped up the visit and ran out and had a good cry in my car. I then cancelled all outstanding appointments. Looking back, I wish I hadn't let him pressure me to do something I knew wasn't safe. I wish I had spoken up more. I've learned that now. People in pain, people with illness are in an incredibly vulnerable position. We need help and we rely on medical professionals to care for us. We trust them. Dr. Joan and Andy not only violated that trust, but Andy's words and behavior wounded me that day and triggered not only more neck pain, but an overwhelming wave of panic knowing I wasn't believed. This is in direct conflict of what medical professionals pledge "do no harm." On the flip side, I've since found my voice and frequently think back on this experience as the last time I didn't. Now I know that it's my body, my choice and that deserves to be heard, believed and respected. read more
