I was given appropriate treatment on the spot, and an invitation to call back if my problem didn't resolve itself in a few days for option 2 of treatment plan. My dental issue did require a referral to a specialist , but given the short amount of time I have left in FL, it was questionable whether I could obtain an appointment with said specialist (I couldn't). Gulf Cove was also very agreeable to working with my Ohio dentist office as far as supplying X-rays and info for when I return. I could come in at 820 am and get the prep done and then there was a cleaning appointment right afterwards. I'm very busy and I always take people at their word. They even called to confirm 24 hours in advance and I double checked that I had the spots for the exam and the cleaning. I even had my old dentist forward X-rays from 6 months ago via email 48 hours in advance of the appointment so things were sped up. I arrived and received a quick xray, why I'm not sure because they already have clear ones from very recent. I sit around in the chair for a while and the assistant tells me they are waiting on the dentist and they can get me back in at 2 pm for a cleaning. I've got meetings scheduled from 1030 am - 6 pm EST and 830 - 1030 was the only time I could block off. The office manager came in and told me they had given away my cleaning appointment and there was nothing they could do. Nothing they could shift around. I was sitting right there in the chair and all I needed was a routine 30-45 minute cleaning. Very disappointed with the experience and would not recommend this location as obviously the lines of communication are broken and I wasted my entire morning.

Prior to that, it had been several years since…read moreI had been to the dentist, but I had been paying for dental insurance and decided it was time to finally address my dental work. Scheduling was easy, and when I arrived the environment was welcoming and professional. Everyone was friendly and understanding. However, before any work started, I was told that my insurance "wasn't very good" and would not cover much of the treatment. Since I hadn't dealt with dental insurance in years, I trusted what I was being told. They presented me with paperwork before treatment. At the time, I believed it was a billing statement rather than an estimate. Based on that understanding, I agreed to the recommended work and paid over $750 out of pocket that same day. We also discussed a larger treatment plan moving forward. Because I had not been to a dentist in years, I assumed the costs were normal. Later, after speaking with friends who had similar dental work done for significantly lower copays, I started questioning whether I had paid far more than expected. I still initially gave the office the benefit of the doubt because the staff had been nice and I believed I needed the work anyway. After speaking with other dental offices, I learned that my insurance is actually considered a strong dental plan and that my out-of-pocket costs appeared much higher than what many offices would have charged. At that point, I canceled the extensive treatment plan and decided to seek another provider for major dental work. Fast forward to May 2026: I returned only for a routine cleaning that I knew was 100% covered by my insurance. During that visit, I was informed that I had a credit on my account. This surprised me because nobody had ever contacted me to explain that I had overpaid or that a credit existed. I told the dental assistant that I only wanted services fully covered by my insurance. Instead, I was repeatedly encouraged to continue with additional deep cleaning/root scaling work and "touch-up" work from the previous visit -- despite no hygienist or dentist having examined my mouth yet that day. I again stated that I only wanted what was fully covered and that I wanted my credit refunded. I was then told the refund process could take up to four months, even though the amount was only around $340. During this interaction, I honestly felt confused and pressured. At one point, the dental assistant incorrectly stated that I had only paid around $376 out of pocket during my previous visit. It was only after I pulled up my bank transaction on my phone that a printed receipt was produced confirming I had actually paid over $750. I also felt like it was being implied that other dental offices would not want to treat me because root scaling had already been started. The assistant repeatedly stated that a regular cleaning would "do nothing" and referred to it as "just polishing." I specifically asked for clarification to make sure I was still allowed to see another dentist for a standard cleaning, and eventually she confirmed there was no legal or insurance issue preventing me from doing so. Ultimately, because I declined additional root scaling treatment, they refused to perform any cleaning at all that day, stating they believed a general cleaning would be ineffective. When I questioned why I had apparently overpaid during my original visit, I was told that insurance ended up covering more than expected and that the original paperwork I thought was a bill was actually only an estimate. I requested my refund along with copies of my dental records and treatment plan. Oddly, I could not receive the treatment plan the same day and was told I would need to formally request it with my records. I'm not commenting on the quality of the dental work itself, and I will say the office environment is clean and welcoming. However, based on my experience, I strongly encourage anyone visiting this office to fully understand their dental insurance beforehand and carefully review all paperwork before agreeing to treatment or making payments. Specifically, ask whether the paperwork you are signing is an estimate or a final bill, and ask whether there is any possibility you could later discover you overpaid.

Because of that, I asked to be scheduled before the office closed, and an appointment was confirmed. When we arrived for the appointment, the office was closed with a notices taped to the door stating that the location had moved and dental records can be sent after calling a specific number (which I did with 30 minutes on hold). The new office was an hour away from where the appointment had been scheduled. No one notified me of the move and my appointment was never updated. I flew from across the country to take my mom to her appointments. After taking the time to travel to the appointment, discovering a sign on the door instead of an open office was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful of patients' time. This level of disorganization and lack of communication from the staff makes it difficult to trust the practice.

But based on how rude the front desk person is, I'm choosing to take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of other dentists in the area to choose from. I'd recommend you shop around and see how they treat you at the front desk. It's very telling of how your experience will be from there forward. Unfortunately I've seen these kind of people before and they make the experience terrible. The front desk woman at this place is one of those fantastic non-educated, class-lacking rude people that you see all those hilarious IG videos about them (like the people that work at the DMV, the post office, and medical offices). The kind of employees that think they are god and can make all the rules for how your experience will go. If you dare to challenge their archaic practices (like them REFUSING to help you get a copy of your proper dentist's records -- most practices will help you via a form they send to your old doc to request your record, you just need to sign off on the release form), the rude way they talk to you, the ridiculous hoops for you to jump through, you are seen as a "miserable person" and they will call you such in their response to your review. Lol if I was a guy challenging the way this front desk lady operated, I would be seen as "attempting to set better business practices" by calling out the poor experience. But since I'm a woman, naturally the "powers that be" at this place paint me as a Karen. Whatever. I'm glad to be a Karen if it means I can call out this place for having a horribly unhelpful, rude, and miserable front desk person.
