Having heard stories from friends about the discomfort and pain associated with a root canal procedure, I was apprehensive. But, my experience was completely pain-free and surprisingly pleasant. Every staff member I encountered was professional yet friendly, and put my at complete ease. I was treated initially by Dr. Woods, then by Dr. Ballentine on a subsequent visit. However, I was never provided with any written information explaining what a partial denture is, how it would fit, or the potential risks and side effects. From my very first appointment, I clearly informed the office that I have a severe gag reflex. Despite this, the partial was still recommended without any documentation or discussion of how this condition might impact my ability to tolerate the device. Because I could not proceed with the partial due to my known gag reflex, the doctor then recommended a bridge. Again, I was not provided with any written disclosures outlining risks or possible complications associated with this procedure. During the bridge preparation, my tooth was shaved down excessively, which appears to have irritated the nerve. As a result, I have been experiencing ongoing pain for several months. When I returned to have the procedure completed, I was presented with disclosure forms to sign, after the work had already been started. I was not comfortable signing these documents at that stage. As a result, the dentist refused to complete the treatment. I am now left with an incomplete bridge procedure that is causing me ongoing pain, without resolution or completion of care.

I told everyone I was there because I'm in pain. They told me they MUST take over 20+X-rays of every each tooth before I can see the Dr ! At one point - after hours of gagging and excruciating pain I wanted them to stop - the Dr came in to strongly advise me I had no other choice. I had a panic attack, my heart rate was above 110. I asked the Dr for "gas" to calm me down. They charged me for it, but I've never actually felt like I got calmer or "gassed". The assistant even said - oh, this is empty. I'm just gonna give you oxygen" . The Dr extracted the tooth at 2:30 Pm after presenting me with a $1600 bill that I had to pay before the extraction of course. I was told I needed a 3D scan too, for extra $300. For the "next step". I said - should you take it after the extraction then ??? I was under distress, under duress, scared, in pain, I paid. She charged me for bone graft, that I strongly refused and was never done. When I mentioned the overcharge at the check up, the assistant started yelling at me. I left immediately, sensing another panic attack forming. They had the audacity to ask me for a good review ! The assistant told me "she buys us coffee after 10 good reviews" ! Coffee ???? That tells you who this woman is. Treating her staff and patients the same bad. I can not warn you strong enough to avoid this money grabbing scam far away ! And yes, I'm looking for a lawyer.

The veneer in my front tooth is moving and not straight anymore after only one year. Bernitt must have put it in wrong. I would have gone back in but I feared they would make it worse. To compound this they overcharged me. my last visit they said I had a credit balance of $418, but months later they started sending me bills for $838 balance due, which were not true, I paid everything plus insurance paid more. I disputed it and analyzed my ledger sending them proof that they actually owed me money. Then their auditor did his own sneaky audit and said now I owe $1,379! It did not include previous credits shown on the ledger they sent me. Nevertheless I offered to settle with them for $300 but never heard back. Now they have sicked a collection agency on me that has been harassing me with phone calls and wanting to charge an additional $345 in fees on top of the $1,379! Bernitt and his crew are criminals acting like the mafia. They are not honest or trustworthy and do not live up to their promises or agreements and the $12,000 work I received is subpar at best. Do not under any circumstances use them or trust them for your dental work. I have heard from 6 others in the community that their billing practice was unfair to them as well.

I am a cash patient, without dental insurance, so I was thinking that they would love my repeat business. I ended up asking for referrals to a good dentist in Venice and now I am scheduled with that new dentist in the first week of April. I will transfer my records and see if the new Doctor, referred by several people from Nextdoor.com and another dental office in Venice, are a good fit for my needs. It is sad to have to make a change, changing dentists is never easy.

Candidate #3, Kathie Allen, listened to my dilemma and graciously agreed to see me right away. I found her, and her assistant, to be professional, knowledgeable, friendly and caring. She did a full assessment, with X-rays, and removed my molar with minor discomfort (NO pain). Thanks to both of them, I will be sleeping soundly tonight for the first time in over a week. As an added bonus, my wife and I now have a Dentist in Venice, FL!
